Language / I'm Moving from UK To Poland to learn Polish and live there [11]

Cześć,
I have finally decided to move to Poland. I fell in love with Poland when I visited Wroclaw about 10 years ago. I had a friend I worked with in the UK who took me to her home and I stayed with her family for two weeks. I came home and signed up for a Polish course which I completed. My friend then moved back to Poland with her Husband and raised a family. I hadn't spoken to her in about 6 or 7 years because life just took over. I then started learning Polish again and after a few months I signed up on facebook and tried to find her, which I did. She is doing fantastic.

I would like to move maybe within two years. I have a few things I need to take care off in the UK first. I am single with no real responsibilities in the UK so I finally made the decision and I am so looking forward to the future. I fell in love with Poland the moment I stepped foot off the airplane all those years ago and at this point in my life I want to have experiences that are priceless. Needless to say I will have my Best Friend back in my life.

I am going to spend the minimum of the next two years learning as much Polish at home knowing that soon I will be speaking with Natives. I will be 33 by the time I leave, I have no job waiting for me or anything but I would be happy working in cafe in Poland because like I said before its about the experience of being there.

Sorry for rambling but just wanted to share the good news.

Dziękuję bardzo, Simon

Life / Is wizja.tv a free service for watching Polish channels or what? [10]

Thank you so much for replying...I did think that myself...that the standards severs are free however they might be prone to "buffering" when busy but I have not experienced it.

Thank you so much for replying, I appreciate it a lot.

Life / Is wizja.tv a free service for watching Polish channels or what? [10]

Hi guys and gals. I am curious what the situation is with this channel. I have been watching it now for a few days (I have surpassed the 3 hours) and it seems to be free however in red writing at the side it does say "UWAGA! Brak Premium! - limit oglądania: max. 3 godziny - dostęp tylko do serwerów standard".

It is great though for watching Polish tv and I will pay if it ever stops working. Does anyone have any experience using this?

P.S. I do live in N.Ireland btw.

Language / Is It Possible For... a person who has studied Polish in College for 1 year to get good [3]

...a person who has studied Polish in College for 1 year to get good. I am talking about myself. I went to college and studied Polish for 1 year and also studied a little on my own as well. At the time I was surround by Polish friends however as we all got older some of my friends moved back to Poland or elsewhere around the world. I am in contact with them still but they are busy with there new lives that I cannot speak with them verbally like we used to be able to.

I have just turned 35 years old and it was 8 years ago when I studied in Polish. I have recently started studying it again (you could call it a mid-life crisis lol). I am trying to surround myself with as much Polish things as possible. I am reading Polish books, watching Polish TV Shows, listening to Audio Cd's and listening to Polish music when I am in the Gym or Driving. I just started listening to Marek Grechuta and I really enjoy it because I can hear what he is saying clearly, I don't understand much of it but I do like it.

I am looking to make Polish a part of my life and I am studying at least 1 hour a day. My question is...Is it possible for someone like me to eventually become good at Polish? What I mean is can somebody my age if they put in the time get to a good level of Polish or even better. I do know that the best way to learn Polish is to be around people who speak the language but at the moment that is not possible but I would like to move and live in Poland at some point in the future.

How good can a person get when learning Polish...is there a certain level that someone who wasn't born into the language can reach or is the sky the limit? Can you get to the point where if a Polish person met you and didn't know you could think you are Polish? because I have met Polish people who have a local accent where I live and I was suprised when they told me there were Polish and they were only in the country 5 years.

Thank you for taking the time to read this, all help is greatly appreciated.
