Law / Unemployed Wife - Maternity in Poland / Parental leave for Father [4]

Hi,

Both my wife and I are foreigners and are expecting a baby. I am employed (under a "proper" employment contract), she is a stay-at-home mom, and neither employed or unemployed by formal definition.

I have Paternity Leave (2 weeks), however there is the additional possibility of taking Parental Leave - split between father and mother.

It seems like the father's right to Parental leave depends on the mother's eligibility for Maternity leave. Not sure if my wife is elegible: "Insured workers, including all employees and self-employed men and women covered by social security insurance at the start of leave." She is not a worker, but I am, isn't she covered in ZUS automatically - hence being elegible? Which options are there to help her be elegible?

I need some help to understand what type of leave I am entitled to. It seems like ultimately I cannot take any part of "Parental leave" as she is not elegible?

Thanks.

Travel / Cheap places to stay in Szczecin? [12]

Merged: Inexpensive place to stay 1st month (Szczecin)

Hi,

In September I will arrive in Szczecin on my own for work, and my family (wife and son) will arrive in November.

So I have 2 months to work and save before renting an apartment (and also use this time to get around the city and find a suitable place to live).

Where should I stay during this time? Airbnb is ultra expensive, and hotels too, I was thinking about a room in a shared apartment. My main goal is to save as much as possible during this first months in order to have some cash when my family arrives.

Thanks

Work / Szczecin - 10.000 Gross salary for a couple with child [7]

Thanks for your replies!

I used Numbeo as smurf suggested and living with the salary I was offered seems possible, but yeah: saving, traveling, going out, etc is going to be difficult.

Question: I still do not understand the logic about why you receive less money the last months of the year? This is very unfamiliar to me. Can someone please explain this? (If you can give me an example with the offered salary of 10k gross it would be great)

Thanks!

Work / Szczecin - 10.000 Gross salary for a couple with child [7]

Hi,

I am moving to Poland with my wife and 3 yr old son in a couple months, probably in August/16.

On this first thread, I would like to know how will it be like to live with a salary of 10.000 PLN gross (Around 7k net) in the city of Szczecin.

If you can provide me with a break down of the most common costs of living for a family of 3 I will appreciate it.

Thanks
