Life / Should I move to Poland -- LDR. Cultural differences? [6]

I have never been to Europe before and have only travelled in the Caribbean outside the United States. This would be my first time being in Europe.

You would love Europe in general. I lived in Canada for 15 years and the US for 2 and it was indeed an adventure ;))

I'm a foreigner here and don't speak the language, and to be honest I find it difficult, as anyone who doesn't 'make the effort' to fit in would. I have 2 children who are now predominantly Polish and can't see myself moving any year soon. I work in the UK for 6 months a year and do most of my business there.

Don't let my comments put you off coming here. The country is truly beautiful and the people are 'in general' friendly, open and welcoming.

Wish you luck!! Let me know if I can help in any way.

If you are black you will notice more than most that there are not many black, chinese or pakistani's here. My brother visited from England recently and I bet him 100PLN that he wouldn't see more than 10 foreigners (ethnically colored people) during his weeks stay. I won the bet by 9 as he actually only saw 1 chinese person. He was amazed!

Now the Polish people are very warm and welcoming and I have never seen any signs of prejudice during my 8 years here, but you will find it strange if you have lived your life in a multicultural country.

I did meet one black teacher who told me she felt that people stared at her more than any other country she had visited. But then again she was an anomaly in this city. She told me she was leaving as her children felt 'estranged' at school.

Hope that helped. It is a touchy subject ;)
