Work / English qualifications to start Teaching English In Poland. Is degree of some sort needed? [123]

I think Polish is much more difficult than English at a basic level but as you progress English becomes progressively more difficult with phrasal verbs and such like

My course books come from the UK so I point out the differences when I find them, though there really aren't that many.

like

There are a lot of everyday vocabulary differences

Food / Your favourite Polish foods! [180]

Golabki and sledz...as far as I know Goulash is a Hungarian dish. I cannot stand Flaki or Polish meat in general but Czarnina is not bad.

USA, Canada / Living in Poland - prospects for Alabama guy ... need some advice! [146]

Schools in England are much better equipped having worked in them in both countries I see the difference. The health sytem is abysmal and paying for education is crazy.I'm sorry but if health and education aren't free till 18 I think something is wrong. Having to pay for school books means a lot of hand me downs. I earned more frying chips as an 18 year old than I do now as a teacher. Foreign ho,lidays are a thing of the past and I pay here for a 32sqm flat what my brother pays for a mortgage on a 2 bed semi.

Food / Miracle Whip availability in Poland? [43]

I'm talking generally. Sausages from a butcher are still more fatty and bacon doesn't exist. Supermarket meat in the UK is way better and affordable.

I moved here from England 18 months ago. It's difficult to get used to and quite lonely sometimes. It's a lot harder to make friends due to the language barrier. I can get by in shops etc. but not any sort of conversation. My gf is very close to her family and we live about 20 mins away. I really like them but it's very lonely/embarrassing/uncomfortable when you go there and everyone speaks Polish and jokes are translated for you and you sit round a table for 3 hours whilst everyone talks native Polish. I like the country and with my gf I'm sure we will reach a crossroads soon as the slaries here are abysmal. I teach but earned more when I was 18 and worked in a Brewers Fayre as a kitchen asst. It's impossible to save money and holidays outside of europe are financially impossible. My gf has a job that pays way over the average salary in the UK but here is peanuts. I wouldn't like to raise a child here-there is no free healthcare for everyone, accomodation is expensive, and you have to pay for all school equipment for your child. Cars are ridiculously expensive the language is very difficult (but I struggle on). I do enjoy it here but if I think about being here permantly it scares me.

Food / Miracle Whip availability in Poland? [43]

I still prefer British food to Polish. The meat is poor quality and fatty, however generally the bread is better and good value. I just wish they imported bacon and their butchers made proper sausages.

USA, Canada / Moving back to Poland after 7 years in Canada [22]

It seems the best situation would be to move to the UK. You can fly over every other weekend with Wizzair if you are earning enough money. Also Ryanair are also starting to fly here again.

Language / How to remember Polish words? [23]

My favourite word is 'Foka'. We were at the zoo and I love to say 'Look at that stupid foka.'

Work / Cost of Living, Average Salaries and Job sites in Poland [263]

I work at a private school on umowa o dzielo. My av. salary is about 3700 brutto. I have applied for other jobs but they seem to offer less money. I qualified 18 months ago and have no fixed hours. I work unsociable hours and between 5-30 lesson hours a week depending on the time of year. I won awards for the best oberved lesson and highest scoring teacher from students as well so if you have some job ops let me know. :-)

News / New budget airport for Warsaw to open in 2012 [16]

It's factual though. I understand the problems associated with budget airlines and they fly from airports outside the city centre and charge for luggage but this is because they are so much cheaper. It infuriates me. MOdlin will soon have easyjet BMI etc. flying back to the UK. I flew to Warsaw with Easyjet, BMI Baby and Wizzair but only Wizzair fly since Etuida shut.
