Law / If you lose your job in Poland is it easy to claim welfare? [36]

I was discussing the Polish language.....

rant2012: No I'm here for work for a few months, trying to pick up bits but it's difficult!

I might ask the moderators why they took down my comment defending myself from these slanderous accusations?

You need to develop rational arguments, you cannot on the one hand imply Polish people are hardworking as they don't get handouts, and the go on to say eastern Poland is full of work-shy freeloaders.....

Work / Finnis is going to work in Krakow. IS 5500 gross + 1500 for apartment monthly OK? [14]

Hey,
Well I recently just thought about moving out and looked at some places around the city. I pay 1500 for a HUGE room in a three room apartment sharing with one other. When it comes to renting your own place I don't know what the standard is like at home but unless you want to live, sleep, pee, cook in a box you'll have to pay btwn 2,000 - 2,500. The other thing is note is the prices they give are not the ACTUAL prices you need to pay strata fees etc which can add up to another 500 zlt a month. ALSO don't go through an agent as they'll make you pay one month of rent to them as a fee.....I suggest asking your work to help you and try to sort it out with them but make sure you say two bedrooms or you'll end up living in a studio...

Crazy so just to confirm if you quit you can only get unemployment for 3 months? Mental!
Don't think I'll quite resort to that...but it does sound fun!
Cheers!
BTW did you find that info online? Was it English?

Cheers Chris, but I'm interested now in how the hell Polish people live on nada! I found this but its old:

oecd.org/dataoecd/10/25/29736037.PDF

it says:

1) No housing benefit
2) Unemployed for 6 months
3) Can only claim for a year

I also found online that the average payment is 147 euros a month....

Can anyone confirm if its still the case?

Work / What's the average salary of a construction worker in Poland? [16]

That's interesting, according to the EU stats the average construction worker got in or around the 2,000 mark with 30% in deductions. If you're saying trainees make this then, thats clearly rubbish. I wonder did wages go up with demand for 2012?

Travel / ARE POLISH NIGHTCLUBS UNSAFE? [11]

Do you guys think Polish nightclubs are unsafe? After the stairs in my favourite Kitsch collapsed Im starting to wonder about the health and safety standards in pubs and nightclubs....let's face it when we're drunk we don't notice these things and how often do you go to nightclubs completely sober...
