Love / Why Poland and Indian Sub-Continent? [30]

they are ducking their parents choices for them.

The guys that I mentioned were literally cut off from family for a short period. It was very difficult for them. And family ties are very important. But the parents understood in the end...

And about, me not having experienced enough of life, here's another thing I believe - I can't label a person good or bad just because of something they did... People are more complex than their actions. There is almost always a reason why they do the things they do... I don't say that I approve of the bad things, but I can't call them bad for doing something bad...

Love / Why Poland and Indian Sub-Continent? [30]

You think Indians come here because it's worth coming here?

Come on, the only reason they come here is because it offers an cheap, easy way into the EU.

The Indian people that I know of, were already living abroad for years and didn't need to marry a EU citizen for that.

I don't deny the sham marriages... but I believe that most human beings aren't so twisted. It's just stereotyping that ruins it all. Or maybe I am naive and haven't seen enough of life at 22 in my part of the world(India).

Funny.

Something tells me that this thread will unfortunately bring here nasty people who will put down Polish women or Indian men...

Maybe I shouldn't have posted this... Hmmm...

sham marriages

No. Not in the cases that I have seen.

Indian guys looking for EU passports.

Stereotype. I don't believe in them.

Love / Why Poland and Indian Sub-Continent? [30]

Of late, I have come across lots of relationships involving Poles and people from the Indian-Subcontinent. And I actually have one such marriage in my own family. And another married couple that I know of in my hometown.

I find this pattern strange. Polish girl and Indian guy or vice versa, you know. I mean it's never Czech and Indian or French and Indian.. It's always Polish and Indian. Is it just me?Or is it a fact?

And btw, in my opinion, I think such relationships are difficult.(Although, I know of an Indian-Russian couple in my hometown and they actually grew old together. I see them holding hands and going on walks together in the evening.)

So what do you think? My observation about this trend is correct? And do you think such relationships work?

Language / Indian-Polish Accent. :P [26]

Thanks for the comments, guys. Really appreciate it. And yes, it's the nerves. 'Wroclaw' is right. And I did notice that it sounds like 'Dzień dobra' after I uploaded the video. But thank you, Vincent, for pointing it out.

And (lol), Polka, I am not studying in Poland. I have never been to Poland for that matter(though planning a trip next summer.) It is just that, I am obsessed with the Polish language and well, everything related to Poland.

My romance with the language began a few months back. But sadly, I couldn't devote much time to it. It is hard to balance medical studies with extra-curricular activities. I also sing(a bit, here and there, most recently on an album) and compose songs on the guitar.

Anyway, I will keep trying. :)

Btw, I have been tripping on Polish music too, of late. I like Myslovitz. I am planning to cover a Polish song, sometime later. I will make a video and post the link here.

Anyway, I need to run now. Have a nice day, guys.

OMG! Dooku! I love you for this! You are awesome! Thank you so much! You are as good as my Polish teacher. He is brilliant beyond description.

And wow, you also know Hindi! That is so cool! Not many Polish people know Hindi.

And yes, I know that 'dzień dobry' is something like 'good day'. So from your doubt, I gather it is not used towards the end?

Language / Indian-Polish Accent. :P [26]

Hey guys,

I am posting a link to an audio of me talking in Polish. It's nothing complex, just a short, simple introduction. I thought you might find it interesting to hear an Indian trying to speak Polish. So here it goes.

...

It starts off after 4 seconds...

Thanks.

Naomi.

Language / What I learned so far about the Polish language. [30]

Hello all,

I am learning Polish at the moment. (Yes, I have introduced myself here before if you were wondering. But oh, well, I will do it again - I am Naomi. I am from India. And I am 21.) This thread is just to share my excitement about the whole process with you.

I made a few great Polish friends on here. I am already in love with Polski. But my friends made me fall for the people too.

The language is no doubt complex, especially if you are doing it without a tutor. But I have some good resources to help me out. And of course my friends help me with the finer word usage details that books/softwares don't carry.

I will share here what I learnt in the 10 hours that I devoted to learning the language. Maybe you could correct, add to this or encourage me.

I learnt the sounds of the 32 alphabets and affricates.
I learnt the basic idea behind the 7 cases,5 genders and numbers; and how words forms change according to these parameters.
I learnt about the pronouns - On, Ona, Oni, One
Also how to identify the genders of some words.(most nouns ending with consonants are masculine, those ending with an 'a' are feminine and with 'o' are neuter.)

I also learnt a few basic words and phrases like dziewczynka, stol, powodzenia. (The spelling is so difficult! I downloaded a virtual Polish keyboard by the way)

And oh! A few cuss words as well. :P

I am learning Polish, Medicine, basic keyboard, advanced guitar all at one time! I am probably gonna go nuts at the end of this! Totally loving it!

Anyway, thanks for reading and ermm... I have a suggestion for the mods. It would be great if you remove the racists comments/threads posted here by some, well, racists. I think they should have no place on this website where people from all around the world come to learn about Poland. It simply reflects bad on the country. If someone talked shit about me or my country here, I will probably not fight back, but I will just know what kind of a place they come from...

Language / Polish - Absolute Beginner Questions. Study plan. [75]

I suspect in most cases you won't even be able to find the word in the dictionary if you don't know how to make the primary(dictionary) form of a word from the inflected one you'll see in the literature. This is why you really need at least some grammar before you start reading anything.

That makes sense. I had Sanskrit at school. It has 8 cases. So I understand what you mean.

Thank you for your valuable comments, everyone.

Naomi.

Language / Polish - Absolute Beginner Questions. Study plan. [75]

Hello all,

I am trying to learn Polish all from scratch and all by myself. I just started out a couple of days back. I read up a few things here and there on the internet and downloaded some study material. I also made one Polish speaking friend... I guess that's pretty alright for a start.

I have chalked out a study plan for me. It would be great if you share your opinion about it. So here it is -

Step 1 - Learn the alphabet

Step 2 - Learn the sounds associated with the alphabets(vowels, semi-vowels, consonants and affricates)

Step 3 - Learn to read and pronounce basic Polish from Phrasebooks.

Step 4 - Read Polish literature and look up the words in a dictionary. Listen to the Radio or watch Polish videos.

Step 5 - Study Polish grammar(Cases and so on).

(Logically, the step 5 should appear before or with step 4, but I wrote it that way since I learnt that there are more exceptions than rules in Polish grammar.)

And I request you to PM/email me, if you're a Polish speaker and interested in making a new Hindi/Marathi/English-speaking Indian friend. :)

Thank you and dzień dobry.

Naomi.
