History / Act of union Poland - Lithuania 1413 [3]

Dear Amsterdam,

I'm new to this list, so I'm late picking up your enquiry. If you're still interested in the Act of Horodlo, I can suggest a few more online citations in English, all of them accessible via Googlebooks:

1) Norman Davies _God's Playground_ vol II (p. 96) has a brief translation, less extensive and a bit differently worded from the one you have already ... of interest for it's different translation of some of the key wording ... and Davies is "the man" on Poland, so presumably his Polish is good and his translation is worth noting;

2) Nels Frederick and Solomon Ferré, in their _Christianity and Society_ (1950/1970, p. 211) have a translation that looks a lot like the one you give, but I think there is a difference or two in detail;

3) The longest translation I've found is in Paul Super's _Events and Personalities in Polish History_ (2008, pp 18-19), which has a deal in common with Davies's wording for the part that overlaps with the small extract that Davies gives.

Finally, if you read French, or even if you don't and just want to have an idea of how long the Act is (about 7 pages in this version), check out _Recueil de Documents Concernant L'Histoire de La Pologne_ via Googlebooks. What's odd is that the beautiful bit to which we're attracted i.e. the part that sounds like Corinthians, doesn't appear to be in there. Perhaps this version has dropped the Preamble and just provided the "business end" of the Act. The address for the start of the text is <books.google.com.au/books?id=WNJJTLdYGJcC&pg=PA14&lpg=PA14&dq=%22act+ de+l'union+de+horodlo%22&source=bl&ots=dwO8FeTJ0e&sig=tvFyVCM5EDg5MSSV ZcCCTIy92jc&hl=en&ei=3BmwTOnqNsXJcYaumYYH&sa=X&oi=book_result&ct=resul t&resnum=4&ved=0CCEQ6AEwAw#v=onepage&q&f=false>

Like you, I'd like to have as much of the document as possible. I've just realized that searching under "Pact of Horodlo" might throw up some different results.
