UK, Ireland / Matura - Does it meet the entrance requirement for English University? [9]

Hi, hoping someone can help me here..

My partner passed the Matura 8 years ago and is hoping to start University here in the UK next year. So far the Uni has not been very forthcoming with information regarding required entry qualifications. Does anyone here have experience of this and does Matura count as equivalent A Levels when applying to Uni?
