USA, Canada / Polish person in America (firing a gun for the first time) [18]

I got a chance to go to a firing range this summer. I tested a Glock 9 mm and a few other hand guns, then an AR 15.

I found that I am a pretty good shot, which I didn't think would happen. I also found that I like the AR 15 better than hand guns.

Maybe someone can tell me this.....how does the weight of the AR 15 compare with similar weapons of its class? Is it heavier or lighter than other semi automatics?

News / Smoking ban in Polish bars and restaurants (AT LAST!) [400]

In the US smoking is banned just about everywhere except outside!
And in Arizona, even if you are outside you have to be about 20 feet away from a door to a public building so the smoke won't blow inside.

Too many cute, young Poles smoke. Let's keep them pretty and handsome!
White teeth and fresh breath is way more sexy that stinky breath and fingers, and yellow teeth!

Get Healthy Europe!

News / Poland - the least liked German neighbour. [210]

All of a sudden germany wants to change the rules.

I actually think you can thank the US for that....we started the financial meltdown felt around the globe. *winces*
Be glad Germany still had some money to lend...they fared better than the rest as a result of conservative, frugal financial practices. Unlike so many others....including Wall Street.

Food / WHY IN POLAND PEOPLE DON'T USE ICE? [142]

I prefer cool, not cold beverages when exercising or when it is hot out.
I can slam a cool drink, but a cold one gives me "brain freeze".

Drink warm or cool water during a workout?

History / Actually, there never was any Polish-German hatred [149]

TheOther
Instead of absorbing the attitudes taught in school, students might better served to be taught how to think independently, and without the baggage smeared across the pages of the history textbooks, ja?

History / Actually, there never was any Polish-German hatred [149]

And actually, if you ask the old people, they say that although today people talk about SS all the time, the majority of Germans in Poland were Wehrmacht, and they were good people, mostly.

I think that when we look back at history in general, we discuss conflicts in terms of the peoples involved rather that the root causes of the conflicts. I was in a class yesterday where we were told that 95% of a problem or issue is over the "what" not the "who" in a situation (this came from a Harvard study of conflict).

I still insist (after 3 years of reading this forum) that hatred is a learned response.
If two peoples are constantly at odds over the "what" eventually it develops into an emotional response to the "who".

Nobody is born hating anybody.

Life / WHEN DO THE CLOCKS GO FORWARD IN POLAND? [19]

This winter I bought myself a sophisticated alarm clock that could accommodate two different alarm settings. It also featured an automatic "time change" so that it would not be necessary to change the time for Daylight Savings each season. But I live in a place that doesn't have Daylight Savings (which I never understood anyway) so I have to remember now to undo the automatic setting. *rolls eyes*

Love / Are Polish Women cold and aloof? [249]

Americans are very quick to understand what is close to them and can bring them money.

I'm not obessed with money either.
I have a roof over my head, clothes and food. That's enough.

News / GERMANS WANT TO GERMANIZE KOPERNIK (COPERNICUS)! OUTRAGE! [1016]

I know Copernicus as "Copernicus" not as Kopernic or any other version, Polish or German.

I know Marie Curie as "Marie Curie" nor as Marie Skłodowska. If you were talking about Skłodowska, I would not recognize that name.

That's nice sentiment sweetie, and I agree with you, but I wanted to see what the Poles would say. (I would think they would rather claim a twice Nobel winner to Copernicus, but we shall see!)

What about Marie Curie?
Was she French or Polish?

Marie Skłodowska–Curie (7 November 1867 – 4 July 1934) was a physicist and chemist of Polish upbringing and, subsequently, French citizenship. She was a pioneer in the field of radioactivity, the only person honored with Nobel Prizes in two different sciences, and the first female professor at the University of Paris.
