History / Warsaw in 1988. Military presence? [2]

Can anyone tell me how large the military presence was on the streets of Warsaw in 1998. And how much security there was at the airport?

I apologise for such broad question but I'm just trying to get an idea.

History / Info on Poland in 1988 - researching a short film [21]

Okay. I think you're completely missing the point here. No doubt it was a very difficult time and I'm sure it made you a better person. But I'm just interested in the cultural side of it. The movements that emerged out of it.

I'm not looking for an argument, just some ideas.

History / Info on Poland in 1988 - researching a short film [21]

Today's youth is sooooo tame in comparison!

I grew up in the 80's in Ireland and I feel the same about the young people there today. No imagination. Still maybe a few years of recession and poverty will fix that :-)

Life / IS Poland in danger of becoming the next multi cultural sink hole? [201]

Also when the time comes and we are short of people, the desired immigration should come form Ukraine and Belarus-similar cultures, language, one generation and they are through and trough Polish

Why dont Polish people go to those counties when they need work?

History / Info on Poland in 1988 - researching a short film [21]

Hey.

Im researching a short film.

I'm looking for any English literature that describes what it was like to live in Poland at the end of the 80s. Websites, books etc.

I paricularly want to read about the strikes in Kracow in 1988.

Also I know there was a wave of Punk music in Poland in the 80's. Were there clubs for this music in Kracow in 1988?

Can anyone help me out? Cheers

UK, Ireland / WHAT IS SO SPECIAL LIVING IN U.K [90]

Have either of you lived in Britain?

I went to Southampton Uni for four years. Imagine Limerick mixed with Harlend and Wolf. Desperately depressing place.

The people are more educated. Food is better. They can speak their own language properly. They dress better. The women are more elegant. Public transport is better.

Law / Car Insurance costs in Poland. [24]

20% discount for having an anti theft tracker device installed in the car

How much did that cost? And does it work?

How much are those anti theft tracker devices? Never heard of them. Are they effective?

News / Poland's Economy Is No Joke [63]

Poles working in the UK sent home an estimated £1.8billion last year.

How much money did BRits make buying and selling Polish property last year?

Wow. While that seems like a strange way of doing things, it would be great news for me. Thanks

Language / Polish locative and case declensions [16]

Of course. Duh me!!!

Fair play for learning it though. I keep saying I'm gonna take it up properly. I'm kind of ashamed at this stage. This year hopefully...fingers crossed.

Life / Lack of Spacial Acuity in Poland [69]

What about all the cretins who step into the road and then decide to look and see if there's a car coming?

You see that's funny because I regularly chuckle to myself about how overly cautious pedestrians in Poland are about crossing the street.

UK, Ireland / The Irish, the biggest tax evaders ever [21]

We are starting to see what erks us when it hits home.

Could you explain that rather illusive and not very clever statement?

UK, Ireland / The Irish, the biggest tax evaders ever [21]

Irish people can work and still claim many benefits. This does not mean they are evading tax. Id say we are about the same as everyone else.

Our problems have FA to do with tax evasion.

A note to expats: This is why I never b*tch about Poland even though I live here. I dont know enough yet to make pronouncements. I hate it when foreigners make stupid statements like this about Ireland.

UK, Ireland / A collection of noimmigration's threads or "STAY AWAY from BRITAIN" [978]

calling him a Goebbels is a bit too much.

I obviously don't think he is the Goebbels. But I think that he was the most notorious spreader of misinformation of all time so I think the jibe was fair. He realistically might be working for CNN however so that would be an accusation.

and by the way

Typical leftist reply.

Is that an argument?
