UK, Ireland / Temporary Residence/Karta Pobytu - Applying from London [8]

really? but how come the polish consulate has got a list of requirements on their website and they didn't mention that i cannot file the application from here in London?

i am a non-eea national but married my polish husband last year - i'm a student at the moment. i need the temporary residence so we can move back to Poland anytime.

czesc.

does anybody know how long the processing time is if you apply for the temporary residence card from london? some people on this forum said that it takes 6 months, is that true?

is the polish consulate here in london fussy?

what if i need to travel urgently and they've got my passport, can they release it temporarily so i can travel (the same as in the uk border)?

UK, Ireland / Leaving the UK. Am I entitled to any UK benefits from NI contributions if I move back to Poland? [9]

really? would you be able to give me a rough guide on the procedures?

No. How it works is that you can either keep the money in the UK system, or transfer it to another country depending on if there's a social security agreement betwee the UK and the country in question. In the case of Poland, it's quite straightforward to transfer the contributions here, though ZUS will be awkward and difficult, as is to be expected.

that may be true but on the uk border website, it says that if you wont register, you are considered illegal.

True, but by all accounts, they're not really bothered by Polish workers working without the WRS permission - they're far more bothered about real illegal employment.

i totally agree

If you ask me, they should bring in the Polish system into the UK where you need to work for 12 months before getting anything from the unemployment office. It's not a bad idea, and means you don't get students sitting around on the dole because they refuse to take menial jobs.

UK, Ireland / Leaving the UK. Am I entitled to any UK benefits from NI contributions if I move back to Poland? [9]

czesc.

just wanted to know - my husband's polish and i am a non-eea national. if we've been working here in the uk for about five years and then decide to move back to poland after, what sort of benefits are we entitled to from the uk government (as we've been paying our n.i, contributions over the same period - 5 years)?

can we get our money back from them?

do we get all of the contributions that we've paid?

or is it just a portion of what we've paid as stated on the national insurance rebate website?

or do we just start receiving pension from the uk government as well when we reach our retirement age?

dziekuje bardzo.

Love / Do you think that Polish should stick to Polish? [128]

i absolutely agree. it's a good way of preparing their future.... besides, children can easily three languages in one go. why not take advantage of their innate talent? but pressuring them to be multi-lingual is a different story....

I'm Canadian and got married to a polish girl, we have a son of 20 months old and he's learning 3 languages polish, english and french. My opinion it's better for a kid in europe to have many open doors for their future. By the way it's really easy for a kid to learn many languages at the same time!
cheers

Love / Catholic Church Wedding in Poland [6]

czesc. does anybody know what the rules are if my husband and i would like to get married in a catholic church in poland?

i am a philippine national and married my polish husband the urzad stanu in gdansk a few months. now, we'd like to get married in a catholic church somewhere in gdansk or sopot next year - hopefully summer 2010. we are both catholics and we will finish our catholic marriage preparation course by end of january 2010.

i would like to know if it's really true that because i am not polish and is not yet fluent in polish, we are not allowed to get married in just any catholic church in poland but we have to get married in a cathedral? is this really true?

would appreciate any feedback.

cheers.
