USA, Canada / Why no Polish stuff in Chicago? [41]

5??????? LoL
I think youre exaggerating a bit

Not in the least. There's Univision (channel 66), Telemundo (channel 44), and TeleFutura (channel 60). I know WGN 9 and WTTW 11 both have a Spanish version now too (on channels 9.2 and 11.4, respectively). That's 5 right there. And even 26.6, home to Polvision, often shows Spanish programs. I don't know how many radio stations there are, but I'd bet there are just as many.

Last night I was checking what's on TV. I went to Channel 26-6 Digital TV and they did have Polish program on Friday night. Tonight I will check it out. I think you won't be able to get it on Cable.

You probably saw Polvision. It's on every night, not just Fridays, from 8-10 pm CST and again from midnight-2. And it is, in fact, on cable. On Comcast digital cable, it is on channel 248, if I'm not mistaken.

Yeah what areas are the restaurants in?

Avondale, along Milwaukee Ave. in the north and Archer Heights, along Archer Ave. in the south.

Speaking of restaurants, does anyone know what happened to Bobak's?

I don't know how many radio stations there are, but I'd bet there are just as many.

I looked it up and counted 7...
WVIV-FM and WVIX 103.1 / 93.5
WRTO 1200 AM
WPPN 106.7
WOJO 105.1 FM
WNUA 95.5 MHz
WLEY-FM 107.9 FM
WRTE 90.5 FM

So, yeah, 5 doesn't seem like an exaggeration at all...

Language / Interesting inconsistency between Polish and Russian [71]

A funny false friend: dynia is pumpkin in Polish, but dinnye is melon in Hungarian. Looks like our ancestors were always too drunk and could never taste the plants in their garden.

You want to know an even funnier Polish-Hungarian false friend? "buzi," as in "daj mi buzi"--in Polish, well you probably all know it's a kiss. But in Hungarian it means "gay." =D

Life / Polish stereotypes of other nationalities!? [472]

sirgeorge8600:
well I live in America and people here are too hypocritical and materialized.

AWESOME Stereotype! Just I have heard it before... Im starting to wonder if it is true

It is :)

there is a saying 'jak w czeskim filmie' 'czeski film - nikt nic nie wie' - noone knows what's going on and what it is all about

I saw a Czech film once... I understood it, but wasn't sure if I liked it or not. =P

Calicoe
Wow, that's interesting! I have to look into that...
