Is it known in your family that Duplaga originated in France?

Genealogy / Duplaga, Data surnames [67]

Kamil,

My friend Maryanne, (mwhary), alerted me that they was a "Duplaga" inquiry on this forum. We have been working together in finding a familial connection as we both have Duplaga's in our families. My materna grandmother was Katarzyna Duplaga and she was from Stara Wies. She was born in 1903. She Married my grandfather Stanislaw Data from Stara Wies. He was born in 1899. They came to New Jersey in 1920's settling in Linden. Anything sound familiar to your family? If so, please let me know. Thank you.

Genealogy / Italians in Poland around 1500-1600's [5]

Does anyone know of Italian's migrating to Poland in 1500-1600's?
My grandfather was a Data and I have been told more than once that it is of Italian origin. Specifically in Northern area near Turin - Piedmont region. There are many Data's in Forno Canavese and there is a hamlet or frazione called Data.

Mr. Duplaga,

I am a friend of Maryanne and we have been exchanging information on our Duplaga's. Just curious, are you related to any of the following surnames: Data, Kedra or Nastal?

Thanks,

Cathy

I was searching under the name "PLAGA" instead of "DUPLAGA" and it came up under a site on an Italian forum. I also found on another site a Stanislaw Plaga. Could this be a derived from "PLAGA"? I mean could they have changed it in Poland to DUPLAGA?

Merged: DATA surname

I am trying to find information on my grandparents Stanislaw and Katarzyna Data. I've always known that they came from Rzeszow, but some of the records on ancestry.com show that they came from Stara Wies. Is Stara Wies a town in Rzeszow? How do I go about finding birth and marriage records of my grandparents? Were do I look, in Stara Wies or Rzeszow?

How can I find out more about the Duplaga & Data names and the connection to Italian origin?

How do I go about tracing the names back?

You said Duplaga means "obscure"? I heard it was derived from the meaning of some kind of bird - "dupla" . Just confirming, you think it is of Italian origin and not Polish.. right?

The Szejwa name - you said it is of German/Yiddish origin. I've tried looking up the name and keep getting a lot of Jewish records. Do you think it is a Jewish name? As far as I know, my family has been Catholic.

You have confirmed for me the information on the DATA name. That it is of Italian origin as well.

Could you please give me meaning of KOZLOWSKI name. My father's mother's maiden name.

Thank you for your responses to my inquiries.

What is the meaning of surname DATA? I've heard from someone that it is originally an Italian name. This person was able to trace back to 1600's in Forno, Italy. DATA is my mother's maiden name and her parent's were from Rzeszow.

I am also interested in find out information on my mother's mothers maiden name which is DUPLAGA. Would like to know information on my father's fathers name SZEJWA.

Thank you.
