News / Is this the first clear and open signal that Poland makes preparations for war with Russia? [163]

I can tell I am dealing with a patriot.

I am just a citizen of Ukraine, Lonman. True patriots are those who fought on Maidan. 97 of them are not with us anymore (over 50 still missing and thousands of injured). These are our Heroes.

(I drank in some underground bar in Lviv with this theme once

Kryjivka :) I like it too :)

I will go back as far as my own countries Revolution in 1775. Our militia did well in ambush and in defense in the first battles but could not stand against the regulars of the British

I agree. This supports my point. I recall the movie "Patriot" with Mel Gibson. Of course, it is a movie, but still it is based on factual events. The Americans had Something to fight for, while the British army was trying to hold the colony. It would have failed sooner or later. Besides I would say that the Ukrainian army is better equipped and trained than militia. Our government and the army do everything possible to prevent the war, because everyone understands what it would cost in human offers. The West should use all possible leverages, diplomatic, economical, political, financial to not let this moron Putin kill thousands, destroy countries and bring another world crisis.

I could see US Special Forces trainers thought and other intel spec ops types.

Trainers, it would be amazing. The US have great expertise. I still don't want the war. I pray.
Thanks so much to your country, Lonman, the US, for the support. I like Senator McCain and State Secretary Kerry. Both veterans and great individuals, understanding the consequences of the war.

Nathan thinks Neocon Mccain is a smart person. Only lunatics would actually agree with that warmonger.

He is not a warmonger. He simply understands that Putin is Hitler of today, which will not let it be without drowning Europe in blood.

News / Is this the first clear and open signal that Poland makes preparations for war with Russia? [163]

1) Crimea is gone. Russians have it and no one has the power or will to take it back.

Wrong. Hannibal had half of the Italian peninsula, which is much bigger than Crimea. How did it end? Carthage was leveled with ground and Hannibal army destroyed.

2) I assume now Russian paramilitaries are slowly moving into pro-Russia cities and countryside.

Wrong. There no pro-Russian cities in Ukraine. There some groups of a few thousand brain-washed scum bags, but the rest of the population doesn't want war and majority will fight Russians to the end.

3) Ukraine is not part of NATO so don't expect much. The security guarantee from the 90's not worth the paper it is written on.

Wrong. It is worth and respected by the civilized world, because this is how the civilization is built: on the word that is upheld/kept. Otherwise, there can't be any agreements, contracts, insurance etc. anymore. God forbid, the moronic Putin starts the bloody war, the NATO will provide us with the weapons, because this lawlessness of the KGB scum has to end somewhere. Otherwise, he will go then for the Baltic states, Poland, Slovakia etc.

4) Right now Europe and the US/Canada etc are confused and unsure what to do besides offering diplomatic threats. Their worldview has been upset and don't know what to do with a govt that is not interested in talking and laughs at empty threats.

Wouldn't you be confused about what to do if you are dealing with something that has no values, doesn't keep words and is only interested in destruction?!

5) Poland is doing the correct thing by moving troops to the border region of Ukraine. If a shooting war starts they will be very busy securing the border, working with refugees, and other issues.

Correct. It is important for Poland to be ready to protect its citizens, because psycho Putin is capable of ruining Polish lives too. The scum has no restraint.

6) But the draft call up will make little difference as it takes a long time to train a modern solider in the art of modern warfare.

Wrong. A soldier even with no experience fighting for his family, children, land, backyard is hundred times stronger any professional soldier, who is the aggressor and who is dying for nothing, just because Putin told him to do so.

7) The US Military in Europe currently has little ability to take on a large well armored Russian army.

Russians were bringing tons of dead bodies of their soldiers from Chechnia, which has total of 1 million people. Russian soldiers will be cut down by the partisans on the streets.

Genealogy / My grandmother's last name was Krolik, is this name Jewish? [66]

I absolutely understand you, Marina. I hope you will find out. It is interesting to know the roots for many reasons. You know, I was asking my grandma about some details of the family's past and she is always reluctant to tell me about them. First, the reason was "you are too young to understand", then "I will tell you some time". I have understood that I won't ever know the truth or at least her vision of it. So, I in a way gave up. But I am glad you keep on looking for answers.

Genealogy / My grandmother's last name was Krolik, is this name Jewish? [66]

It's anyone's guess. There could have been tens of reasons for this split. Hundreds of thousands of families were split this way just because they found themselves on the different side of the Berlin wall. Sometimes religion, national identity, bickering between the family members about property or naming a child or planting a wrong tree in the garden can lead to the inter-familial wars of a century long span. I would suggest looking into some personal records, because this as any other last name doesn't say who, what and from where exactly a given person is. Krolik itself, as a word, is of Slavic origin though.

History / WW2 Civilian Forced Labourer [8]

Your father was young, 14 years, when taken away. His age and maybe his physical characteristics may have influenced the decision of the Nazis to take him to Germany. When he was freed by the allied forces, there were many reasons not to return home, and they were already mentioned. I am not sure about Poland, but many people in the neighboring Ukraine, upon return from the forced labor camps or farms were oftentimes treated as traitors by the Soviet regime and deported to Siberia, not to ever return. Your father was probably aware of this and other circumstances described by Katheryn.

Love / Polish girls attitudes towards sex. [568]

it was combined with a high sex drive and a belief that it was his job to meet her sexual needs, whenever they arose.

Smart woman. He wasn't aware how lucky he was.

Life / Should citizenship in Poland be removed for particular crimes? [7]

I wonder why? Just because one was born within the borders of a given state? Why do the immigrants then have to swear an oath? Just because they were born outside? I would consider citizenship a contract, not something as fingerprints or DNA that are innate to everyone individually. That contract stipulates certain obligations on its carriers. If a person commits some horrific crimes, whether directly or not, ruining lives of others, then than person, IMO, should be stripped of his/her rights.

Life / Should citizenship in Poland be removed for particular crimes? [7]

And, of course, only if the citizen has dual (triple?) citizenship.

Why? Some people are leeches of the society they live in. They destroy the well-being of their co-citizens by corrupting the whole social pyramid, leading to the impoverishment of the majority; their actions turn the lives of millions into pathetic voiceless existence. These people cannot be considered citizens even behind bars. They can't be allowed to vote, to be employed by the government, etc.

History / Alexander the Great - Macedonski. Poland connection? [254]

Tell me about them...their culture, language, history and heritage etc!

Tell me that you are the one who would be able to describe other nation's culture and heritage better than they do themselves. Only morons with chauvinistic tendencies can claim that. I apologize to PF for my abruptness, but there is nothing dumber than people from neighboring countries telling you how to call oneself, while trying to bring some ridiculous arguments and explanations from prehistoric times. Maybe, you should talk to Turkey and ask how to better call the Greeks, based on the Turkish understanding of your heritage and culture?

History / Alexander the Great - Macedonski. Poland connection? [254]

Awarding FYRoM the Macedonian-Name for Ethnicity and Nationality makes Macedonian Identity Slavic, which conflicts badly in historical demographic terms with the Western Worlds cultural historical narrative

People of the USA are called Americans. Does it "badly conflict in historical demographic terms of the Western Worlds cultural historical narrative"? And no one is going to "award" a nation with a name. I don't think the Macedonians are going to ask the Greeks how to correctly call themselves. Ridiculous!

History / Alexander the Great - Macedonski. Poland connection? [254]

Which is ridiculously childish on the part of Greece - the EU should have told Greece that if they wanted the bailout money, they had to drop their objection to the name of the country. The Greek attitude towards Macedonia has been nothing short of pathetic - and the Macedonians are having a field day creating an entire cult around Alexander!

Good point. Greece behaves like a child on that issue and is disrespectful. It would be similar if Ukraine, Poland and Spain started a fight over the name of Galicia. Who gives a rat how people decide to call them. Besides, the Macedonians have a very good reason for that.

News / Poland's economic future? [294]

This is a prediction into 2050! I wish Poland to become one of the richest, but at the same time I don't think Portugal, Italy, Bulgaria,... will become the poorest. It is not a science, but pure speculation, Polish Patriot.

History / Chance of Lwów once again became coming part of Poland [344]

I agree with Palivec on the issue of Bamiyan buddhas and any other monument which belongs to humanity, not just to people of one country. Besides, I doubt that the Afghanis wanted the destruction of these relics. It is an example of utmost stupidity. Interesting that they were older than Islam itself. There are things which are above history and nations - they should be preserved for us and the future.

Language / Which language is easier for Poles? [43]

You're thinking in English, Nathan.

Actually, this is Ukrainian thinking ;) We have sounds similar to L and V, but not £, which for me (I am not a linguist) is a mixture of two or even better to English W.

Nathan, do you pronounce £ as L?

I try to pronounce it correctly, but it sounds a bit funny to me, as if I am not able to pronounce "L".

She kept saying ladny instead of ładny

You know, Seanus, when I read this, I realized that is exactly how I say it :)

Language / Which language is easier for Poles? [43]

Oh, wait, did I say sweet? I meant the most attrocious.

Interesting :) I couldn't ever understand why in Polish one uses £ if there is W. For instance:
£opata sounds like Wopata. You either have L or W - why mix their sounds up? ;)

Food / What's your favorite Polish beer? [870]

I think it was Tyskie that I tried. And it was great. Though, usually I worship Lvivske beer "1715". But Eastern European beers in general are really good. Czech Pilsner and Slovak Golden Pheasant are to die for too :)

History / Why is the Battle of Grunwald celebrated more than the Battle of Lubiszewo? [29]

Conquer, enslave, exterminate which they did

In 1230, following the Golden Bull of Rimini, Grand Master Hermann von Salza and Duke Konrad I of Masovia launched the Prussian Crusade, a joint invasion of Prussia intended to Christianise the Baltic Old Prussians.

Was the duke Konrad a Teuton?

RP did not exterminate Ukraine

It never could, but it ruined with its "Christenizing" brutalities the cultures of the Baltic tribes.

barbaric wasteland

It is how I see your brain sometimes. I just want to add nuclear to it.

If there was no Grunwald the Teutons would eventually conquer Lithuania, besiege Poland from three sides and destroy it, then they would have another go at Novgorod, this time with and an army ten or twenty times larger and do what they always did, burn the city and kill off all its inhabitants (they did it to Poles in Gdańsk and in many other cities), then they would do the sam to Kiev and then to Moscow.

It is funny, but instead of them that what exacly happened after Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth won the battle. Sokrates, it doesn't matter what language you speak, if one is a religious fanatic with brutal mindset the consequences for the region would be the same. And they were. There was the siege of Kyiv, Moscow, destruction of the Lithuanian ancient culture, burning of cities and extermination of people, latinization of the "barbaric wastelands" as a diligent Polish student of history like you would call it.

IF you read a bit of history of Poland

I read history as a whole written by as much as possible non-interested in the outcome people. You do the opposite and your knowledge is highly skewed and boring by presenting the same one-sided approach.
