Life / Does anyone know Hubert Anna Justyna (the painter)? [22]

Googled her up again today. And it seems she died in 2003.

Soon 2016... I dont wish anyones death but the value of art usually increase when the artist is dead.

Wonder what two unknown paintings by her could be worth nowadays.

History / What do Poles owe to Russians? [193]

Saying that I would blame Kosciuszko for attempting to start a revolution when Poland was at it weakest moment.

Actually Kosciuszko wanted to wait but was forced to start earlier then planned.

History / What do Poles owe to Russians? [193]

The tax for the regular army was ridiculously low, but that was not just the fault of the Szlachta. They normally payed a huge amount in taxes when The PLC was invaded, and most of the times it was actually the senators that paid most of it and gave the country their armies at its disposal.

It was also the fault of the elected Kings that signed the Pacta conventa that originated a lot from the Henrician Articles. Something that should not have been made in the first place because it was firstly signed by a stupid king that agreed upon everything and then left the country after a year or so.

History / What do Poles owe to Russians? [193]

Instead of blaming Russians, direct your historical accusations to the Polish elites of 16/17/18 centuries who contributed to the eventual fall of Poland.

Depends.

The problem was that 1 individual could criple the sejm and it was not untill the 18'th century that powers around The PLC realised it and started to bribe our elite. So it goes both ways.

Don`t you think that Russians might demand the same from Poland for certain Polish guy`s actions in Russia which caused hundred thousands, if not million deaths? Do you know who I am talking about?

Felix Dzerzhinsky? :)

Travel / BIGGEST MOSQUE IN POLAND! - Gdansk [42]

Poland is proud of its islamic heritage. We will never forget what the Lipka tatars did for us, god bless them.

According to some estimates, by 1591 there were about 200,000 Lipka Tatars living in the Polish–Lithuanian Commonwealth and about 400 mosques serving them.

In November 2010, a monument to Poland's Tatar populace was unveiled in the port city of Gdańsk at a ceremony attended by President Bronislaw Komorowski, as well as Tatar representatives from across Poland and abroad. The monument is a symbol of the important role of Tatars in Polish history.

"Tatars shed their blood in all national independence uprisings. Their blood seeped into the foundations of the reborn Polish Republic," President Komorowski said at the unveiling.

The monument is the first of its kind to be erected in Europe.

History / Unusual soldier (The bear - named Voytek) [71]

Merged: Poland's WWII soldier bear statue planned for Edinburgh

An Edinburgh-based trust hopes to raise a statue this year of a bear that served alongside Polish soldiers during World War II.

Wojtek the Bear was purchased as a cub in 1942 while the Polish Second Corps was stationed in Iran as part of the British 8th Army.

The bear became a fully-fledged member of the 22nd Artillery Supply Company, sleeping in soldiers' tents (until he was too big to do so), gobbling up cigarettes and drinking beer.

Legend holds that during the Italian campaign, he carried boxes of artillery at the hard fought Battle of Monte Cassino.

So nice of the mod to merge my thread, let me guess... Vincent? :)

Life / Why do people think that Poles are culturally isolated? [126]

I don't understand why you think every Angol that comes on here is attacking Poland. Most are interested in Poland for various reasons. You kind of put people off.

Like the british say, go back to the filthy place you came from! ;)

Nobody is interested to listen to your moaning about Poland.

and then ant guy shows up and claims that's becasue Poland is poor, many buildings are almost collapsing etc., well so I ask him what does he (or you) think about Indians or Pakistanis as their countries are far poor than Poland.

Does it matter what he thinks? He obviously hates his country so much that he moved to Poland rofl.

Those are three suggestions to start with.

Do something about it then?

How hard can it be to send a complain to the polish goverment about the situation in your city? They been cracking down on corruption all over Poland.

@Hudsonhicks & Berni23

You two would make an excellent couple!

Both of you are the laughing-stock of this forum ;)

It is often said that Poland is a country where there is anti-semitism and no Jews, which is pathology in its purest state.
