Life / Internet without TPSA (The Telecommunication of Poland Corporation) [11]

If you can get away with Aster or UPC, try that first. Otherwise have a look at internet via a mobile phone operator again. The experience is widely dependent on the modem you have (I recommend a option GE0301 HSUPA modem) as well as the provider. For example, Play are relatively cheap, but limit you to 1Mbps. Plus and Era should provide full speed, depending on you location relative to a base station.

For me personally, I have internet from Era (~10GB limit / month) and after I managed to get an external antenna my speeds came up to around 2Mbps. Having said all that, it's cheaper to use any landline provider compared to a mobile phone provider.

Work / Salary expectations in Poland [373]

Hi Matt,
First off, congratulations on the job offer.
It is a good offer. Depending on your experience and the company, etc..you could do better. I'd say ask for at the very least 10 000zl brutto (aim high and negotiate down). While the cost of living in Poland is lower than London, etc..it is rising.

You can work out your tax on the following website:

praca.gazeta.pl/gazetapraca/0,75037.html

Just enter your gross monthly salary and select "brutto", "umowa o prace", "Nie" and "Nie". Click the "Policz" button. Click the "Obliczenia roczne" tab. The "Wynagrodzenie netto" column will give you a breakdown of your net income by month (yes it varies - so a budget is essential!)

Additionally, check your contract. Most Polish contracts are for a year...and then is renewed by mutual consent.

Good luck and hope it helps.
