Poles really are inferior t the british in every way arent they.

The article doesn't mention Polish drivers specifically, so your comments are more than a little inflammatory.

To me, this is like the benefit entitlement situation, in that having a driving licence issued in an EU country shouldn't entitle someone to drive in another EU country. They should be tested by the other country they want to drive in. To me that is just common sense.

It isn't just the EU either though. I know someone who took their test in Zimbabwe and now lives here and they got a UK licence just by sending off the form. I also know someone from New Zealand who has done just the same.

The DVLA needs to get its house in order to test anyone from anywhere who wants to drive on UK roads but has a licence issued elsewhere.

I agree that there are more foreign cars on the roads now (no idea if they are taxed and MOTd properly though) but standards of driving are terrible across the board.

I'm glad to get home every night in one piece and find driving much more hazardous than I used too.

UK, Ireland / Time for the Poles from the UK to go home [437]

Some will stay and some will go.

Personally I would have thought that most would want to go home eventually as that is where they are from originally. Whether it's called national pride or just missing the streets that are most familiar, I don't quite get why many Polish would care so little about Poland, that they never want to live there again.

UK, Ireland / I have concerns over the British immigration policy so I wrote to my MP. [126]

It is often suggested on here that anyone who has concerns over the current lack of any decent immigration policy should write to their MP.

So I just have.

I hope that those who will have read any of my previous posts would know that I'm not a mud slinging, axe grinding xenophobe. I'm just an average bloke.

I'll happily PM a copy of the letter to anyone who is interested in its content.

In my experience, MPs can be quite good at responding to letters. The effect on government is a totally different matter.

I'm sure a reply will be forthcoming, however, I agree that not much will happen as a result.

Having said that, my MP has a wafer thin majority of less than 1,000. Therefore, taking no notice at all of such letters won't do much for their chances of re-election next time around.

Thanks for everyone's interest.

What can realistically be done?

Probably nothing, however, we either roll over and die or lobby the powers that be and say "enough!"

The British Government must be able to introduce legislation to make things fairer. It would be something if they just held their hands up and admitted that they've coc*ed up.

I wish this forum had an MP to write to. I'd complain about all the English that have invaded this forum, stealing our posting space, being rude and generally doing what the Poms do best - whinge.

Read my previous posts, Ozi Dan.

I'm not trying to whinge as you put it, in fact I'm trying to be constructive.

Thanks, Mr. Aitch. You made some interesting points that I wouldn't have thought of.

I think a lot of people don't even notice stuff in the news, especially if it's not deemed to be very interesting (today would be a good day to bury bad news), or if it just doesn't seem to affect them. This isn't helped by the fact that news programmes seem to be mostly speculation rather than actual reporting.

Thanks Osiol (and others) for reading it and taking the time to comment.

I made a few tiny changes and corrected a couple of grammar howlers, but will post it tomorrow.

Bloody foreigners going to England, taking the jobs they don't want to do, upping the national I.Q., importing fit women, supporting the economy, bring cultural diversity and tolerance and then complaining on a Polish forum that the English don't want them.

I'm not coming at this from the "bl**dy foreigner" angle and I welcome the diversity and the differences. No problem with that at all. It's the sheer volume that I have difficulty with. Immigration is fine, but it has to be managed.

I'm sorry that you don't find my posts constructive, but others have, so I can't be that bad and I have posted the letter. I came onto this forum as I wanted the views of the Polish. Would you rather I went onto a "Sun" type forum and joined in the slanging matches ?

It isn't a matter of qualifications. As I said, it is down to the volumes and the entitlements they get straight away. Yes people have the freedom to travel, but with freedom comes responsibility. Governments should accept their responsibility and make sure that their people are not adversely affected by all this.

I very much appreciate that we do not live in a fascist regime of any kind and that I don't risk being dragged away in the middle of the night for daring to voice an opposing view.

And as the Poles went to the UK to work and not claim benifit they ARE paying for the system and entitled to benifit from it!

I agree in theory, but it shouldn't be from "Day 1".

I think that there should be a minimum of five years worth of contributions before people are entitled to services such as the NHS.

Those who haven't been paying in, but want to give birth in a UK hospital or send their kids to a UK school should pay for those services.

Er,wrong my british chum....its a cap on NON eu citizens only.....as usual though, dont let facts get in the way of your posts....

I think he was quoting a recommendation from the House of Lords rather than saying it is fact.

Selective quoting and then commenting on it isn't fair, regardless of who wrote it.

Anyway, I doubt very much that the Government will act on anything that has been said today in the report. Whether some very well informed people say x, y & z about immigration or if the Lords say it's a good idea to manage it better or a even if it came from a thunderbolt from the heavens above, not much notice will be taken. I don't think the Government can be bothered with the paperwork or anything that might require them having to actually do anything.

Immigration, however great it is, should be managed. A kid of ten could have worked that one out for themselves.

Why have you not posted your alleged letter on this forum?,
If you are not coming from the "bloody foreigners angle", who should be aloud in to "your country" and who should decide on what criteria?
what do you do with the people who are already there and do not fit into your management of these people?

I didn't post the letter on here as not everyone is going to want to read it, however, I offered to send it via PM to anyone who wanted to read it. About half or dozen or so people asked to see it.

Would you like to read it ?

The letter itself was posted last Monday, so it should have been read by now.

The criteria for foreigners to have the right to live and work here should be based on the skills they have and the skills we need. They should be also able to support themselves financially, have proof of an offer of employment, be able to speak English to a reasonable level and have a place to stay. I understand that anyone who goes to Poland to work should have enough cash on them to support themselves to the tune of approx £50 a day. Something like that makes perfect sense.

They shouldn't be entitled to register for council housing and if they want treatment on the NHS or give birth to a child here, they should pay for it. If they bring their kids with them and want them to go to school, they should pay for private education. Once they've paid into the system for five years and want to make the UK their home, then that's different and then they can start using things like the NHS that the rest of us have been paying into for years and years.

This should apply to ANYONE looking to move here from ANYWHERE. If I moved to another country, I would expect a similar process.

I was meaning more that the UK Government have handed out all the freedom (of movement), but don't want to take responsibility for any negative impact that it has.

The last thing I want to see is "No Polish Need Apply" signs or anything like that. Nor to I want to hear on the news how things become violent as a result of resentment between communities.

Any managing of migration has to be a control on the freedom of movement. Look at an atlas and see what a tiny place the UK is. It's just not going to work to have so many people coming here.

Yes Europe has changed, but the majority of British people do not see themselves as European however much the Government wished we do.

The British Government has put its fingers in its ears and ignored the problem hoping it would go away.

Charming!

I'm not ignorant, I just want a more level playing field rather than what we have at the moment which is all stacked in favour everyone but the British.

I wouldn't go to work in another country if I couldn't communicate in their language on a reasonable level.

No I don't think that the NHS is the best in Europe, far from it. That's why I think the scarce resources shouldn't be used on people who have just pitched up here.

I'm tried of tossers like you who jump to conclusions about what people are thinking.

Thanks for not calling me a w***er this time :-)

Finally, I urge PF members to be more rational (OMG, I sound like a politician).

BNP ? That is very wide of the mark ! I didn't see who posted that but whoever did is barking up the wrong tree for sure.

I have never and would never vote for the BNP. Their policies at their most basic turn my stomach.

It's not about trying to kick people out or anything like that. I just want an end to the UK being seen by the rest of the world as an international joke when it comes to their immigration and border controls.

I can't help but feel that that is how the UK is viewed.

My question was directed to how has immigration effected you personally. I'm trying to get some real answers, rather than deflections.

The hourly rate for certain jobs is now lower and this has been something that I've come up against and it has effected the money I earn.

I had a reply from my MP.

She responded to my concerns over the levels of immigration by saying:

While the growing number of immigrants entering Britain is well reported, there are also an increasing number of British citizens moving overseas. The Office for National Statistics estimate that of those emigrating in 2006, 71,000 moved to EU countries, mainly France and Spain.

Basically enough of the British born population are moving to create room for immigrants. I guess that's her way of saying "if you don't like what's going on, you know where the door is."

I also raised concerns over entitlement to benefits and lack of the enforcing of registration of foreign cars. This she ignored and made no reference to at all.

I shall be writing back to point this out.

I see from Mr H's posts a strong tinge of racism - why? Because it was reported back to him that the immigrants are filling the gaps created by the immigrating Brits. It's an equilibrium really.

Don't chuck the race card in my direction, I'm one of the good guys.

It's when people like me start feeling aggrieved that you know things have taken a turn for the worse.

This has to be stopped, why is my tax going to smelly slavic children URL

Keep your comments factual rather than personal, Noimmigration.

"British child benefit paid to foreign children living abroad has rocketed by an astonishing 72 per cent in just nine months, to £33million a year.

Most of the money is going on 36,000 children still in Poland whose parents are cashing in on European rules that let them claim benefits in the UK after working and paying taxes here for a year.

Ministers were plunged into a new immigration row last night by the figures, only shortly after proposed tax rises for low-income British families sparked intense controversy."

I agree that paying out child benefit to children who don't even live here makes a mockery of the system, however, a system that's full of holes will be abused.

As someone who doesn't have children, but does work, I'm sick of my tax and NI being used in this way. I'm just as tired of having to bank roll British single parent chavs who have three or four kids (probably all with different fathers) and have no intention of supporting them with their own money.

It's a disgrace all round.

I work part time.

You've spelt the word "benefit" wrong in the title of your post.

While I agree with your basic premise, your general attitude and anger that comes over in your posts really isn't on.

The benefits system has been scammed for years by plenty of British people, so it can't be any wonder that foreigners will take what's on offer if it's only their integrity standing in their way.

"The System" needs a massive overhaul to stop cash being spent on those who don't deserve it.

Sorry I'll just translate that for you into non-inflammatory language - "Polish workers pay taxes and NI contributions and claim child benefit for their children". Nothing to see here.?

Sorry, not good enough. If the Polish want to claim child benefit, then bring the kids to live here too. Their contribution to the economy has only been a few years, so why should they be claiming already ?

It's worth mentioning the 1 BILLION pounds ripped out of the system every year by fake / unnecessary sickness benefit claims. 33 million doesn't seem so much eh?

I agree and have already said that the system is a pile of shi*e, but that doesn't make it right that people can get child benefit for kids that don't even live here.

A man has been jailed for defending scotland against the tide of eastern european immigrants that have plagued our low paid, unskilled job market.

He attacked the guy with a knife you moron !

when has multiculturism ever been a good thing ?

Multiculturalism is a very good thing. Unmanaged, uncontrolled, unchecked immigration is a bad thing.

How is it possible to serve two sentences at the same time?

I think concurrently means one after the other.

Concurrently means together at the same time, like simultaneous.

Oh ok, serving two jail terms along side eachother in a kind of buy one, get one free sort of way.

Talk about letting someone off, although I think he got longer than he would have done had the victim been British.

Do you know what, this entire thread should be deleted. I am sick of the moderators shoving my threads into a little hole.

The moderators are expecting you to come out with the same, tired old arguments and that you have nothing new to say and that you're views are blinkered by general nastiness.

Therefore they may aswell lump all your posts together.

It's called being "pigeon-holed", which is exactly what you do to the Polish.

In the context you're using it, the word "neighbourhood" is one word and not two.

Your views are one thing and everyone is entitled to an opinion, but your appalling grasp of the basics of grammar just beggar belief.

You seem keen to stress your point of view that certain races are inferior to the British, however, you're clearly thick, so why should we listen to you ?

I'm British and people like you symbolise everything that is wrong with this country.

People like noimmigration do need to be challenged, even if it does feel like it's banging a head against a brick wall.

If he thought his arguments through more, didn't phrase them so badly or make so many grammar and spelling mistakes, he might even get taken seriously.

If you went into pretty much any local pub in Britain today, you will encounter lots of "noimmigrations". Just because he is the minority on here, doesn't mean there aren't loads like him.

Many people do think their area has changed for the worse as a result of immigration, but a badly worded topic on a web-forum isn't the best way to discuss it rationally.
Mister H

Most of their arguments are as badly constructed as his.

That maybe so, but that is even more reason to challenge their views and try and get a handle on why they think the way they do.

These people do have a right to their opinions, however uncomfortable they might be and there is a tide of feeling against mass/uncontrolled immigration. It isn't just blokes in pubs sounding off. I work with and know a lot of people, many from well educated backgrouds and on good salaries, who have views along similars lines to people like "noimmigration". It's just that they phrase things better and don't have such a tunnel-vision approach to the subject.

As a result, they get listened to more.
