Food / What's your favorite Polish beer? [870]

The first Polish beer I had was the first time I went to Poland which was in 1976. Don't know what it was called as it was too long ago. The first Polish beer I remember the name of was Zywiec.

I've had a few different Polish beers since the, Lech, Tyskie, Żubr, Warka Strong.

My favourite that I can buy in the UK is Żubr.

My local off-licence only has Tyskie.

The shop I get the Polish beer from sells half Indian food and half Polish food.

The shop has Indian & Polish staff.

It sells Zubr, Tyskie, Lech and Zywiec.

History / Polish 304 SQUADRON IN THE RAF IN WW2 - Davidstow in Cornwall [16]

I am interested in 304 (Slaski) Squadron

Have you seen this web site?

orb.polishaf.pl/304sqn/1942/1942-08-no-304-squadron-f540

The 304 get a few mentions in "The Forgotten Few" by Adam Zamoyski

Well worth a read about the Polish airmen, starting in September 1939.

History / The Untold Battle of Britain [205]

Moreover, having served in the RAF, and having been based at RAF Northolt during my service, I am happy, and proud, to draw attention to the courage & sacrifice of those, such as 303 Sqn, to this forum.

Thanks for your kind words.

Have always wondered this, as you have been at Northolt, is/was there any photos or anything of the 303 left at the airbase?

Regards,
Marek

Former squadron leader Franciszek Kornicki, now aged 93, again had the chance to sit in the cockpit of his old Spitfire plane after it flew in specially to RAF Northolt, west London.

A FINDON veteran was reunited with the plane he had flown in the Second World War at a ceremony to mark the 70th anniversary of the Battle of Britain.

Former squadron leader Franciszek Kornicki, now aged 93, again had the chance to sit in the cockpit of his old Spitfire plane after it flew in specially to RAF Northolt, west London.Polish-born Franciszek, who has lived in Findon since 1983, was invited to the ceremony by Hillingdon Borough Council.

The veteran said: "It was absolutely wonderful to be reunited with my plane. It is a wonderful bird to fly, which I first flew in 1942. It brought back lots of memories and everything came alive again from so many years ago."

History / Cowes prepares to celebrate Polish Heroes during World War II [10]

Cowes is geared up to celebrate the heroism of Polish sailors during World War II this weekend.
The 70th anniversary of the defence of Cowes by the Polish Destroyer, ORP Blyskawica.............................................
................................................................. ..... ................................................................. ..... ............................................

The brunt of the defence lay with Capt. Francki and the Polish officers and crew of ORP Błyskawica. The planes came from the Solent and ORP Błyskawica's main armament, under the crew's direction, drove the attackers up higher, so reducing the accuracy of the bombing. Her anti-aircraft guns fired continuously. Hands were scalded and gun barrels grew so hot that seawater was lifted in buckets from over the side, and thrown on the barrels to cool them down.

................................................................. ..... ................................................................. ..... ............................................

Captain Franki's defence of the town that night was acknowledged formally by the people of Cowes when a plaque was unveiled on 3 May 2004, to commemorate the event and to name an amenity area "Francki Place".
