Travel / Starbucks in Poland? [149]

Surely most people pick their coffee shop based on location / ambience etc rather than the brand? While I'd rather support a small independent rather than some mega corporation, if there's a Starbucks that does good coffee (and they very from shop to shop, don't they?) and is there when I need it, then Stabucks it is.

BTW, I don't recall seeing a Starbucks anywhere that I've been in Poland.

Food / Mother of all hangovers....Polish Beer! [71]

I only get hangovers from Polish beer when I am in Poland... though that's because there are usually a few vodka chasers involved.

I can drink it here in London with no hangovers at all.

who do you think they are aimed ?,

Not exclusively the Poles. In my part of East London, there is a large ethnic group (not European) that does have a tendency to spit in the street, so maybe there is a need to produce somethiongh like this (although I'm not personaly convinced) to cover all bases.

NoImmi, answer me this.... is it just polish forums that you harass, or to you spend your days stirring up other nationalities?

Love / What are Polish Women like? Just started to date one. [256]

As she said that she doesnt think English Girls have many morals or Values compared to Polish girls?

A very sweeping statement, don't you think?

Cheaky biatch, maybe she should stop drinking in Weatherspoons pubs!!!!

Food / Polish Eating Habits [87]

Polish people, for all their meat eating, especially here in Silesia where people love rolada and kotlety, are not obese.

See, just like the French - this really puzzles me.

I eat a really healthy diet (lots of fresh fruit and veg, grilled fish and whole grains) and work out every day - but if I take my eye off the ball (any more than 2 boozy nights out in a week and skipping a couple of workouts) for about a week, the weight just piles on :(

Drinking Screwdrivers

V. interesting... I was at a party at a gay club last week - all the buff young boys were drinking this. And then there was me looking all ladylike with my pint LOL!!

A lot of it is hereditary...something you can't really help.

Food / Polish Eating Habits [87]

You can boost your metabolism by eating small meals more frequently.

When I'm on form, I'll do x2 45 min work outs a day, so that my metabolism gets to peak twice. Jeeeez I sound like a body builder, don't I? LOL!!!!

Probably best to stay away from the pills, as they'll probably just contain caffein or mild amphetamines - even the ones in the healthfood stores

UK, Ireland / Polish Festivals/Exhibitions/Events in UK [91]

Has been rescheduled 16-18th May this year. Positively Poland. Anyone thinking of going?

I read about this event before - I'm not sure about it, to be honest... it's a bit of everthing... tourism... business... finance.... culture... property...... medical tourism.....

My opinion is that it is trying to be too many things to too many people. If I were a Brit considering a short break in Poland, would I attend? Probably not. Would Poles in the UK attend - I'm not convinced, as I probably wouldn't attend a Brit event if I were an expat somewhere.

I might pop along if there is going to be some decent food and I've got nothing else on that day.

The organiser is really going to have to put some effort into attracting visitors... Earls Court is a drafty old place if you don't fill it with people.

True...so I wonder if they already expect it to be busy...

I looked at the exhibitor list - there didn't to be all that many for such a large venue. I went to a similar event about to China at Earls Court a couple of years ago when I was doing a lot of business there, and it suffered from the same problem of identity crisis.... a mix of business / investment and food and culture and hardly anyone through the door.

PD, are you an event organiser? I think that there could be a niche market for a smaller event or festival, maybe focusing on food and drink etc. Perhaps something to encourage non-Poles to check out the Polish section of their supermarket for instance. At the same time, there is probably also scope to hold an event dedicated to business and investment etc. But that should really be a separate entity.

So what will?

Usually a freebie... I went to the Vitality Show last year and bloody hell... the women there were like vulchers... all for a sachet of hair removal cream or a tea bag LOL!!

I really do think that the music and the food would be the big draw.

I agree... howabout something for the Summer, like fruitstock with a Polish twist? fruitstock.co.uk

A Polish festival would be better in an already established Polish community.

But wouldn't that exclude people like me? I'm not Polish, and my neighbourhood isn't particularly Polish.

Surely a great bit of PR for Poland (if that is the aim of the event other than to generate some revenue) to get non-Poles into Polish food and drink and checking out a few bands etc that they wouldn't usually see.

OK, fair point then. I could be interesting in getting involved - as a non-Pole in central London who travels to Poland fairly regularly and does business there, and just wants to get more into the culture.

OK. I will attend the PD Polish Festival for:

Me too - Thinking about the Positively event, I guess Earls Court (with the usual format - corportate stands, goodie bags etc) would be a rather stuffy format. but if it was a bit more fun... a bit like a mini Glasto, it would be worth checking out.

Anyone going to this? I'm still thinking about it....

Work / Education in Poland - system and structure [118]

Anyone remember Going For Gold?

Yes... many happy memories of watching the cheesey waves and thumbs up in the opening credits before heading off to afternoon lectures.

Ho ho ho ho.... look what I just found:

youtube.com/watch?v=n0pvFulUd98

I once saw Henry Kelly in a bar, but I was out with two Aussies and an Indian... none of whom could understand why I was so excited.

I know, I know... he's not blaming immigration, however he is jumping on the "we're all going to hell on a handcart" bangwaggon.

I've lived in the UK and I've lived overseas.... there are good and bad things about both. I bet the minute that Dasla moves to Poland (or wherever), he'll morph into a professional Brit LOL!

UK, Ireland / Applying for a Polish visitor's visa from the UK? [7]

What nationality are you? I'd suggest that you contact the embassy... though if your sister works with diplomats, maybe she would be able to help you?
