I have. Tyskie and Okocim do it to me every time. I've never had a problem with Zywiec (spelling?) though. I thought it was because the beers are brewed a bit differently for the US market, but Tyskie got me in Poland as well. Just 2 Tyskies gave me a nasty hangover.

Funny thing was that it was only the Pilseners that did it. Any of the darker beers (which I prefered anyway) went down without issue!

The beer definitely has a different taste in the US as compared with Poland. It's not as good in the US. All imported beer is brewed differently for the US market. I forget the reason why, but I believe it all has to do with te prohibition laws from 1933.

There are a bunch of popular imported beers in the US that I won't touch after having had them in their home countries. Bass and Heineken stand out in particular.

Absolutely no clue why they do it the way they do.

But I also agree with you regarding American beer. Stay away from the major manufacturers. Anheuser Busch, Coors, and Miller are all dishwater.

My friends and I graduated away from those places about 10 years ago and truly believe in the microbrewery revolution that happened here at that time. I highly recommend some experimentation in that area if you want a really good American brew.

If you can get some Pennsylvania or Vermont micro brewed beers out by you, I have some good suggestions. Unfortunately, we don't get any mid-western micro brews in the East, so I am at a loss as to what the better mid western micro brewers are.

Wawel in Roselle is outstanding. It's on Raritan Road. The husband of a woman I work with owns the place, and it is through her that I met my Polish wife. Saturday mornings are the best there.

Maybe it is because we are more affectionate. I am American and my wife is from Poland. During my first trip to Poland and subsequent trips, the Polish women were all staring me down and smiling. I held hands with my wife (who was my girlfriend at the time), or had my arm around her. I noticed that the Polish men didn't do that with their wives/girlfriends...

I LOVE that guy!!!! I really don't understand any Polish except for some extremely basic things that I have begun to learn.

I married a woman who was originally from Poland. We bought a house and we have taken in her mother. So we need a satellite dish and we get 3 Polish channels (TVP is one of them).

I absolutely love that voice over guy. You could have a movie where a woman is pleading for her life and he reads all the lines in a monotone voice. It won't be as fun when I finally learn Polish.

And since I can't really understand, I make up my own storeis using some of the words i hear from the lecturn. When you say "Ja Panni", I always start a story about the Japanese.

There is one channel where the lecturn is more animated though.


That being said, I agree with Jones. When I lived in Europe and rented a German/French/Danish movie, I always preferred original language plus subtitles. My Danish never evolved to something I could understand at rapid fire pace. I'd always be on a 2 second delay and eventually get overwhelmed so movies in the theater that were in a language other than English were pretty much out for me.

Maybe I read too far into it? Usually, I was only THAT shaken up by girls that I wanted to ask out. I was always Mr. Tongue-Tied. Don't know why... Even happened at 30+ years old when I finally met my wife and wanted to ask her out the first time.

It depends on where you are in NJ. I've seen it at Piast in Garfield, at Koruna Meat Market on Van Houten Ave in Cifton, and at Wawel in Roselle Park

Hi Sophie, I actually posted something about Rosetta Stone earlier today. It's really good! I bought it about 6 months after I started dating my wife, who was originally from Poland.

You will need a microphone as it will grade your speech as well. Someone also just posted that it's gone up to 550 bucks, so you're going to have to swallow hard like I did when I bought mine....

I agree. I paid much less myself. but searching through Rosetta Stone's website, it looks as if they made a module #3. I only have 1 and 2...

I bought mine a couple years ago. The pictures were nothing to write home about, but you can still tell that a ball is a ball, an elephant is an elephant, etc.
