Work / Advice on Teaching English in Poland [709]

average wage for a 20hour weeks for native speakers in private school is about 1500 - 2500pln, which is way above the national average wage and gives you a comfortable life-style. if you add private clients to that you will be laughing all the way to the bank. simply put

Work / Advice on Teaching English in Poland [709]

ok to clear some things up. the 1500-2000pln is based on me, also i havent yet got my nip so i am limited to the amount i can command as a wage. from the company i work for in krakow(city well known for paying crap) the teachers earn 38pln per hour.

concerning the private students, i find they do want to learn english, since it was them who came to me asking to. you can make 120pln an hour if you teach the right stuff. typically for basic english i ask 80pln. but 120 for when im teaching in hospitals because i teach medical terminology as i have degree in mental health nursing.

so i will only say that in a city like krakow teachers are paid less, but i find 1500 enough for me to get by, any more is a bonus. 1000 on rent and bills, 500 for beer:) im scottish so i have history of being tight:)

UK, Ireland / Polish immigration in UK [491]

simple question would be, was the uk worse of 6 years ago?

im not against the polish or anyone in the world coming to the uk, let them come. but dont patronise the native people by saying if it wasnt for immigrants in the past 5-6 years we wouldnt have better lives. but with everything, its a 2 headed coin, we can employ cheaper labour( that doesnt mean exploit) but the 16-21 year olds natives will find it alot more difficult for work.

Travel / Just back from Krakow [120]

I was concerned that there seems to be an England Football bar in Krakow now

yeah that place is a complete dump!! most ex-pats avoid it like the plague. shame, because if you would have turned right at the corner, you would have found one off the most chilled bars in Krakow, RE

the bull is nice, not my place though, i tend to go to nic nowego or pauza. cool, chilled, hang out places.

you are right in saying that Krakow is starting to loose its charm, but don't feel down, come during the winter, when the tourists go and the town really comes alive:D

Is 6719 PLN a good salary in Krakow?

Sounds enough for me, usually i take home about 5k and live comfortably on that. Some months when ive been on holiday i take home half of that and still have no problems. Depends if your shrewed with your cash or. From what ive been told by my students average is about 1500, and they seem to get by no problem.

ok i will ask a couple of guys who might know people in that sector. Though if you earn above 5k, you will live a very comfortable life. I always eat out, spend my weekends on hoildays around Poland and always manage to save. For a top of the range 1 bedroom flat you pay around 1.5k, bills are maybe 500pln a month, So you will have plenty of spare cash, trust me;)

IT, my friend who is now in Poznan earns the same as he did in Ireland. In krakow above 4k will guarantee a good class of living.

History / "Poland's Concentration Camp" ?? [570]

Confuses me too, as it was the Germans who named the place Auschwitz, but the Poles seem to only want to call the place by the name of the town its located, Oswiecim.

Seems very strange why someone would want the claim to fame with such a place. Im not a history buff, but what was the name of the barracks before the Germans took over?

Though i visited again on Friday, something is wrong with the place, its lost its "meaning" and now became nothing more than a tourist attraction.

History / "Poland's Concentration Camp" ?? [570]

This is absolutely incorrect.

Well no, since its the name which most Poles call it, and sorry, but the local transport services call it too, even the tourist buses. Auschwitz is the German name for it, again i ask, what was the name of the barracks before?
