News / The European Health Card. Why don't the Poles know about it? Free Medical care. [26]

My wife snapped her Achilles tendon all was covered by the EHIC card, Investigation, xrays, consultants surgeon, they offered her an operation to repair it but we were due to go back to the uk, so they plastered her leg up and we drove back to the uk, funny thing was the UK didn't offer an operation to fix it, they said the risk of infection was high, so it was a case of 10 weeks in plaster, resetting foot position every few weeks, after all the hassle in the UK my wife wished she had the operation in Poland, recovery would be much quicker.

Got to say hospital was great, no queuing no drunkards inA&E just a quick photocopy of passport and EHIC Job done.

When I am In Krakow I never speak English in the bars, the Brits are turning the place into the Magaluf of the east

We used to buy expensive European travel insurance , we don't bother these days, the only thing is repatriation if lets say you can't fly, we got round that by hiring a minivan (with a mattress in the back) and driving back through the channel tunnel, must admit i was tired after 18 hours of driving.

Apart from the drunkard stag parties Krakow is very safe at night, my wife and I have never had any problems walking around late at night.

Don't forget the Polish Police are well trained in dealing with trouble, this probably stems from their ex communist riot training.

But be warned If you ever take on a Polish Police dog they are trained to go for the testicles not your arm.

"stag parties represent a threat of violence? " They are not necessarily violent, but they can appear intimidating to those who are not used to the degenerate scenes of UK inner cities on a Saturday night such as the throwing up,shouting and tits, bums out for all to see.

I'm sure that Krakow benefits from the stag do's, I don't want to blow things out of proportion, the rowdy types are in the minority, but also I spend allot of time in the summer taking my visitors to see the sights and the night life, so I guess i get to see the odd rowdies more regularly than a casual weekend visitor would.

Still a great place to go to for a weekend.

As for the Police comment, yes it's best to keep out of the way if you can.

I keep telling people but they don;t listen Do not go to Polish strip clubs, they are nothing like the ones you get in Amsterdam.

You will get ripped off and no one including the Police will have any sympathy for you at all, quite the opposite they will see you getting your just desert for trying to take advantage of Polish women.

Go to the bars there are plenty of friendly girls/ boys to talk to and enjoy an evening of drinking with.

Real Estate / New land law legislation in Poland will make life very difficult when it comes to selling. [21]

70% of Polish farms are less than 10 hectares, It would not surprise me if some youngsters would be drawn to the bright city lights instead of continuing the family tradition.

Most estate agents I speak to say there will be a battle over the new laws, but no one has been specific in any detail.

Case of wait and see what happens I guess.

Moved from: Move to Texas, plenty of sun and work, god fearing folk, I lived there for a while It's like a mini Poland, make your fortunes get a place in Poland to stay on vacation and later retire here if you so wish.

If I wasn't in Poland (retired), I would be in Texas tailgating at the Texans games.

New draft ant terrorism law.

Under the new measures, the authorities will be able to detain suspected terrorists for up to 14 days or to immediately expel foreigners considered to pose a threat to national security. -

Officials will also be able to suspend mass public events and gatherings.

I wonder if foreign fifth columnist demonstrators will be expelled if this law comes into force.

" still retain citizenship other than Polish?" Good point harry but it would take time for them to get polish citizenship, passing the language test may also prove a barrier to some.

"What has that got to do with preventing terrorism"

Once these laws are passed many countries law enforcement agencies use them as the would any other law.

Example from the UK below.

Anti-terror laws 'used to spy on Plebgate journalists' Source the Daily Mail.

I trust that Poland will only use the law as quoted "expel foreigners considered to pose a threat to national security"

This could apply foreigners who wish to undermine or overthrow the democratically elected government of Poland

"expelling people involved with opposition politics"

I could never Imagine for one moment out government would expel one of our citizens demonstrating against the government.

But foreign plotters who wish to incite mayhem and riot while hiding behind a political banner would "pose a threat to national security"

"when KOD have been involved in mayhem and rioting?, Kod" Correct KOD demonstrations have been peaceful at all times.

But there are dark foreign political forces lurking, who may wish to take advantage or undermine peaceful and lawful protest, The draft laws if passed will give the government the ability to deal with any foreign fifth columnists

News / Poland directly threatened by ISIS. Do Islamists planning terrorist attacks in Poland? [390]

" if you think Poland is a safe haven your delusional"
Well it all depends on which way the wind is blowing, but Poland has the great sleeping bear in the East who would awaken if Poland is ever threatened nuclear or conventional, after all Russia would not want Islamic mayhem or nuclear pollution on it's doorstep.

News / What kind of Poland do most Poles want? [101]

"What's wrong with marrying someone of your own nationality and religion? "
The problem with this is you would be going against EU liberal policy. By continuing your lineage by intermarrying your own kind you would be contributing to nationalism, as long as people feel connected to their own country / people they will never be Europeans thus not fully committed to the EU political regime.

When EU nations are interbred and mixed up there will no longer be a threat to the EU from individual member states.

Angela Merkel is a committed to this policy ,she is trying to speed up the process of dilution my bringing in millions of migrants who would rather support the EU state rather than any individual member nation.

Off-Topic / Polish and Russian Christians! Lest's unite today! [41]

Sorry Crow we don't need putin, We still embrace the path of peace, we turn our cheek although there are those who slaughter us this day.

Easter is a special time for us, the resurrection of Christ our savior gives us hope and is an example of how to stand against those who wish to do evil.
