A good thing to do is to sign first in the office of the notary an initial (preliminary) sales contract --umowa przedwstepna-- and then, after the funds are transferred into the sellers bank account, a proper sales contract can be signed. yes, this is what I mean by this-- you can't really back out after you sign an initial sales contract (if you do it in the office of the Polish notary public) If a seller refuses to sign a sales contract in the future for any reason, then a Court's decision will automatically replace his signature on the sales contract. So, in a way, this is one of the safe methods to finalize a transaction for both parties. It can save you a lot of stress in some situations.

Well, there may be a chance for your dad. For example, if your dad is a Polish citizen (or if you manage to confirm his citizenship in Poland), he may later try to submit a request to serve his sentence in the Polish jail. If you manage to do this, there MAY be a chance to change the sentence in order to adapt it to the Polish legal system. This is just an idea which may or may not work (this will also depend on the decisions made by US courts and Justice Department), but if this is life without parole, it's definitely worthwhile to try and use every possible legal option.

It may be a lengthy process, (and proabbly a costly one), but this is an option which is definitely worth researching.

I know of at least a few Polish citizens who were sentenced to many years of prison by the UK courts, and then they served their sentences in Polish prisons with their sentences being changed and adapted to the Polish legal system.

well, much can be done to force the mother of the child to implement a polish court decision, for example, a father can threaten her with big financial penalties if she refuses to give him contact with the child; in fact after some time , a Polish court will issue warnings and then will impose heavy financial penalties on the mother who refuses to implement a contact order on her end. Mom's excueses will not work in the long term -- but it's true that moms will always try to find an excuse of some sort. that's why it's always necessary to persevere and not get discouraged.

absolutely not true, in fact, Polish courts are obliged by law to enforce decisions made by foreign courts as long as they meet certain requirements specified by Polish law (for example, a defendant should be given a chance to participate in the proceedings, should be served with court documents, etc.) article of the code of civil procedure is very specific here.

1) the child's father might want to consider filing a petition according to the Hague Convention in order to force her to return to Poland with the child (quite a long and complex procedure)

2) he may try to get 1 or 2 decisions from the Polish Court (including a contact order) which would impose specific obligations on the child's mother, personal visits, skype communication, or sending school reports and photos to the child's father, etc. (the Polish court's decision should be implemented in the English court)

3) the child's father may want to get a decision from the UK court and try to implement it in the UK.

International cases involving 2 or 3 countries (nationalities) are never easy, and usually won't end within 1-2 months.

As a lawyer, I can give you the following piece of advice: if your wife's uncle passed away before Oct. 2015, then it will be ABSOLUTELY necessary to reject the estate /inheritance no later than 6 months after the unle's death. If your wife doesn't do it in Polish Court, the bank may (and most probably will) collect all the debts from your wife and other family relatives. This is in fact a very serious issue.

Your wife doesn't have to initiate the legal process in Court on her own and doesn't have to go to Poland personally to participate in the Court hearings, unless the court decides otherwise. If she hires a lawyer in Poland, he will do the whole job on his own.
