Work / Can a sole trader employ himself (or have staff) in Poland? [8]

Hello everyone, this is my first post here.

So, I would like to start a business as a sole trader and I would need to employ other staff. Can I also employ myself? Can I pay myself? One person I met here said that the only compensation I could get is the possible profit deriving from the business. Is that true?

Thanks!

So, just to make it clear to myself: I can choose to pay myself let's say 3,000PLN/m and I withdraw that in cash from the company account. When doing the accounting, under which voice that withdrawal goes? Is it a salary? A business expense?

Merged: Employ yourself in your own company

I had a few conversations about this topic and I am surprised about what I was told.

- If I start a company (Spzoo), can I employ myself and pay myself a salary? This seems to be a standard procedure in many countries, but I was told that in Poland I can only pay myself through the profit of the company.

- Do you guys have any experience in regard to such a matter?

Life / Why there are so many aptekas, dentists, and language schools in Szczecin? [8]

This is my first month in Szczecin and I noticed that there are maaaaany aptekas, dentists, and language schools. Is it something common in Poland? Why do you guys think this happens in Szczecin? Is there any political, financial or whatever else reason for this?

Just wondering...

There must be a reason, right? I mean it is a way too much. There is literally an apteka and a dentist each block! And a language school each two blocks. I understand that people need to study to become dentists and aptekatists/ But language schools? Is this a kind of money laundering scheme? :-)

It's unbelievable.

Work / What is deducted from a salary in Poland apart from Income tax? [155]

I lived in Szczecin for a year. I was living decently with less than 3,000 a month, including a studio flat, food, and a couple of nights out per week. I have the feeling that people commenting here have a higher standard of living than most polish people I know, especially when I read that 4,000 net would barely meet the minimum in the cities. Probably I am wrong, but university professors make 3/4000 a month. I know a doctor who works at night in a hospital for 30PLN per hour.

Study / Opinion about West Pomeranian Business School in Szczecin? Is it a good school? [24]

I graduated from this school last October.

Pluses:
The school is nice, environment good, cheaper than other similar courses, I learnt a lot because I don't have a background in business/economics, 10/15 people in the classroom.

Minuses:
There are good and very bad teachers. Some of them do not speak English well. Get used to send an email to the secretary and wait for a week for a reply. When we graduated they didn't even mention foreign students during the celebration (I complanied and the dean apologized), some teachers are really good while others are too Polish (meaning that they are still using that kind of very old style approach in which the teacher is the bearer of the truth). No connection with companies.

Before starting the program there, I was enrolled at KU Leuven, which is among the top 20 universities in Europe and was number 67 in the world. I left it because it sucked and I liked the program at WPBS much more than the one in the super cool school. Rankings are worth pretty much nothing unless you go to the TOP schools such as London Business School and a couple more in Europe or you go to Harvard and so on. These rankings are based on many factors and not just because one school is "better" than another. I have degrees and work experience from/in very good schools, so I know.

It depends on what works for you. If you want to be "a corporate worker" than you need to spend money or get the company pay for your MBA. These top schools are generally paid by companies, not by individuals because they are too expensive (100.000 euros for fees, rent, food, time you cannot work etc... ). If you want to learn about business and maybe start something on your own, I would recommend WPBS.

Sorry for possible mistakes, I am on a hurry.

I see, InPolska. I also know a lecturer who makes 2,200 net per month. Again, it seems really weird to me that people keep saying that 4/5,000 are not enough for Poland. There are tons of foreigners (and Poles) living in London (or UK) and they make that much. 200 pounds per week in London, which not everyone makes, are less than 5,000 zlotys.
