Food / What's your favorite Polish beer? [870]

Here is great website with lots beer's reviews (not only Polish ones):
website: browar.biz/piwa.php

it's in polish only, but each beer has a green/red bar with rank ('ocena redakcji' - editor's rank, 'ocena uzytkownikow' - website users rank) - more green - better beer ;)

The list is ordered by brewery name (brewery name, beer name) - some of the beers on the list are no longer brewed

My personal opinion: beers from Amber brewery (i.e. 'Zywe','Kozlak','Grand Imperial Porter'), 'Noteckie' or made by 'Fortuna' or 'Haust' are worth trying :)

Study / My experience in Poland (Poznan) as a student who recently moved from Syria [117]

Hi Dany,

Welcome to Poznan, hope you'll like it - I've spent a few years there - so you can ask if you need some local advice :).

Regarding crossing streets on red light - in Poznan police is particularly strict and there quite lot of patrols in the city whose main task giving fines to pedestrians - so people learned to wait...

As I read somewhere: 'Polish and Chinese are traffic lights' slaves' ;)

Work / Potential for a working holiday in Poland for a young Australian male? [8]

Probably you will need work permit to work in Poland - there is no special 'working holiday' type visa in Poland.

"In general, undertaking paid activity in Poland by a foreigner, irrespectively of the intended length of stay, requires a working permit which has to be obtained in advance at a competent Voivod Office (administrative authority of a Voivodship - a province). Original of the permit has to be filed with the visa application." - from Polish Consulate, Sydney website: sydney.msz.gov.pl/en/consular_information/

Regards

Surprisingly Lithuania and Romania 11th and 12th. Moldova 17th.

Not very surprisingly, especially regarding smaller countries.

Their governments realized that quality of internet access is important for economy, culture, communication...

And even it costs a lot - it's still much cheaper to build than other parts of infrastructure like roads, airports or railroads.

So Return On Investment in internet infrastructure is high - those countries had old network infrastructure and they upgraded it to most modern standards - they jumped 'from zero to hero' :)

Particularly Baltic states got strong finance and know-how investment from Scandinavian (which also have highly developed internet access) companies, like TeliaSonera which took over local telco providers.

Travel / Southern Lakes in the South of Poland for sailing / boating [22]

Hi,

I used to sail on Zywieckie lake a few times it's not big but good enough for day sailing, I think power-boating is also allowed there

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/%C5%BBywiec_Lake - at least I saw a few power boats there.

Basicaly to sail a sailboat shorter then 7.5m (LOA) or powerboat with less than 10kW engine you don't need to have a license (called 'patent'), but to sail longer ones - license is required.

Do you have RYA certificate? It should be accepted in Poland by law but I'm not sure if it would be broadly recognized in smaller places.

Lasers or Hobie Cats are not very common in Poland (although steadily gaining popularity) because of high price - most common open-deck dinghy classes are: Omega

polish boat

Puck or Sigma.

Czorsztyn is a new, artificial lake (opened in 1997) and infrastructure is not yet very developed, but there are some places where you can rent a boat like: ptznowytarg.pl/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=85&Itemid=162

I can confirm that Zywiec can be busy during summer holiday - but still is a nice place to visit :)

This year sailing season is almost over in Poland, but good luck next year ! :)

Life / Courier with pickup from home in Poland? [6]

Allegro Group has a service: sendit.pl - they cooperate with few courier companies (also with DPD) and they have lower fees comparing when you order directly in courier company (because they have special, bulk agreements with transport companies).

I used it few times - worked well (door-to-door service).
