Love / Need help/advice polish girl :( British and Polish girl relationship. [26]

Give it a bit of time. If the girl is fair and shares bills etc... that's a start. I don't think sex is the issue here, if she's happy and she's inviting along to her friends, she is probably faithful. Alcohol is the problem, if she's drinking heavily, she may become an alcoholic. If this happens, then the probs will kick in! She'll be doing anyone for a vodka. Unfortunately it's becoming a big problem amongst young Polish women.

They do seem to become addicted very easily . You could get binge drinking problems with UK girls so no one's perfect.
Try to persuade her to cut down on the booze.

Language / Essay on biggie smalls for my Polish lessons [10]

Trying to complete essay on Tupac/Biggie rivalry back in the day for my Polish lessons.
I'm supposed to to write this in first person as if I am Biggie telling his story then Tupac.
Do I write narkotykow or leki for the word drugs as in'I sold people drugs'?
Second problem Tupac famously anounced over the airways ' f---ed your woman Biggie'
i.e. Biggie's wife Faith. 'miałem seks z kobieta' is that ok?
Finally 'gangstas'. The language should relect black american rapper style language of the time. Sorry for the vulgarity but rap music isn't the Queen's English or classical Polish. My tutor is young so he won't be blushing, I will LOL wish I liked Westlife

Thanks for any help x

Language / Essay on biggie smalls for my Polish lessons [10]

Hi,
Thanks for the help. As Tupac believed Biggie had set up a hit on him, the language would be really harsh! Tupac meant to humiliate Biggie to the max!!

So dragi or prochy ok for selling drugs as in weed, speed etc

Love / Polish wife is threatening me to pay child support 1000zl per month. [40]

There is nothing wrong with her expecting half of his salary. I'd say she is being very reasonable with him.

There is plenty wrong with this!!!!!!!
Very few places in the world would expect a man to pay half his wages to support one child, it's unreasonable.

we live with her parents and i have no rights there and she dnt want to move out from her parents

This woman has chosen to live with her family so she has fewer expenses than normal and she has access to child care should she deign to work just a few hours herself!!!!!

It was her choice to return to Poland, I doubt they guy would have to give her 50% of his wages in the US.

Polish woman would have no rights in India and she would be forced to return to Poland if her marriage failed.

You'd be surprised how many rights she'd have in Urban India! most Indian woman would have more self respect than this woman and try to provide some support for their child alongside the father's support.

I share residency with my two younger children's father and I pay maintenance because he can't be ars-d to work, but it is only about 20% of my salary.

This guy should pay no more than 33% of his wages, 666zt is more than enough considering she is living with her family.
Get a good solicitor papa11 don't let this woman use you, this your child too, you need to be able to afford to spend quality time with your child

Life / Polish people and racism. [943]

Can't speak for Poland but the Poles in the UK are the same as most people, some are racists some are not racists!!

Ever heard about sex appeal?

Very true, I'd be pretty pleased if Denzil Washington pestered me for a date but I'd be equally pleased if Adrien Brody pestered me for a date too, it's the person not the colour that creates sex appeal!!!

Sadly neither gentleman is likely to show interest in me, so I'd better go back to cleaning up the sitting room!!!LOL

Love / What differences is there among Polish girls and British girls as girlfriends? [102]

Nah,that's just women...

LOL always thought it was the men who did that!!

Seriously though Polish women are pretty much the same as all European women,
Some nice/ some nasty.
Some pretty/ some ugly..
Luck of the draw whichever nationality you pick, if there's a particular polish girl you fancy, just ask her out!
The only differences I have ever really come across ( personal opinion only) is that Polish women seem more
dependent on men than British women but that may not be a problem anyway.

Never met a Polish woman who could cook

Most Polish women cook well but the menu is usually very limited, cakes are nice though.

Love / A Polish womans relationship with her mother in law. [44]

Keep the lines of communication open no matter how hurt you may feel at the moment, your son may well need you in the future.

If asked, explain that you had family problems when your DIL was pregnant and that you didn't mean to neglect the two of them, point out that

you are a daughter as well as a mother and that you owed your father care and consideration too.
I can't really cast any light on why the situation has occurred but I have seen similar situations before, usually down to jealousy or insecurity on behalf

of the guilty in law. I didn't like my ex's alcoholic mates coming to the house because I didn't want my children near them, this didn't go down well with his mates naturally.

You could ask if there is anything that worries your DIL about the family? Sorry if this sounds rude, I don't mean to be offensive, I'm just trying to think of anything that could have

created the situation? What seems normal to us may be strange to your DIL.

Did you reply by telling her that under UK law there is no such thing as a necessary heir, which means that you can leave absolutely everything you possess to the dogs home

LOL My mum used to do this when my brother and I were being daft teenagers, never worked because we never assumed we'd inherit anything anyway, we just got her a form from the local cat place ( we both like cats) so she could do it if she wished!!!! Mum was horrified that we could contemplate leaving money to any animal!!!! Both of us would still be very happy if she left her money to a charity!!! better still, blow it on wild living as she's worked hard all her life and deserves lots of fun!!!

pmddx

I hope your situation resolves it'self , just be there for your son no matter what because he will need you one day.

Love / What differences is there among Polish girls and British girls as girlfriends? [102]

but I would definately lean in favor of Polish girls as they are more staight forward and less prone to playing stupid games and are generally more committed,

Think you've got that one wrong, many Polish women/ girls are exceptionally manipulative and openly laugh at how useless British women are playing games/manipulating men,

knowing quite a few Polish women, it's something that they've discussed with me and other British women.Obviously there are exceptions to the rule on both sides, but British women are generally fairly useless at game playing which is why they can be easily spotted if they do. The more committed bit depends on the situation, British girls don't commit easily and will not stay in an unsatisfactory situation. There are plenty of Polish women who will be totally ruthless in walking away if a relatively better prospect comes along!

Ultimately, it depends on what you want in a woman? That said, there are good and bad in both races.

UK, Ireland / Crap parenting in our UK youth today (in Poland it's a little better) [52]

My Polish ex told me that my problem with my kids was that 'I did not beat them enough'

Agree with nearly all of your post here! beating kids to a pulp does not help them! I work with kids
who have been abused in many different ways and it does them no favours. I am not a liberal and in a few
limited circumstances I am not against physical punishment but only in very limited circumstances is it applicable!
far better that we spend time with and talk to our children!
My polish ex used to say the same thing about my children because I wouldn't let him bring his heavy drinking mates around the house, the kids were

worried by them, when he went back to drinking he was put out very rapidly!!!! My ex thought this wrong as he wasn't involved as such in their up bringing but

why would anyone want an alchi near their kids???
We need to put our kids first, this isn't spoiling them and explanations of what is right or wrong are far better than a slap.

Yes we need more discipline for children but it starts with us!!

I think in Poland it is a little better,

perhaps the children aren't so cheeky but I've seen some terrible cases of neglect amongst Polish immigrant families and must be some in Poland too.

I am well aware that this occurs in British families too, pointless comparing the two because both countries can be bad at parenting sometimes!

Catholicism means a respect for the family and intergenerational care

Yes I would agree in most cases!

Polish people care more about freedom and self-reliance

I don't agree here, I think that Poles are very influenced by what others think and quite lacking in self reliance.
I don't see much initiative or independence>
Most Polish women I have come across have no interest in politics, but obviously there are exceptions.
However most Polish women are hardworking.

Tommy, I don't know. kaz seems quite critical of Polish women, but this doesn't necessarily mean she's British (or Polish either...)

British by birth but grandparents and one parent were immigrants.
Prior to returning to my present work, i worked with many Poles as an engineer (technician would be a better description despite fancy job title).

I did have a long relationship with a Polish man which didn't work out, the man's( from his previous marriage) son remained with me when the relationship finished

I have visited Poland but not lived there, I suppose most of my knowledge comes from Polish immigrants. I don't mean suggest that Polish women are inferior or bad people but maybe redress the viewpoint that Polish women are some sort of 'gift from God' which seems prevalent on the forum, also suggestions that all other nationalities are somehow not as good. Probably a pointless task, as being a Polish forum it's natural many people will think Polish women as particularly nice.

Some of the Polish women I know are great, most I found to be hardworking but I was taken aback by the lack of solidarity they showed towards their fellow females and the way they viewed men and the necessity to have one!?? I was often surprised by the way they spoke about how they could manipulate men and how they 'pinched each others' blokes or cheated with them, I was also quite shocked by the way they would allow the men to drink in front of the kids and accept the levels of drink.I also found that many were not interested in many things other than clothes, make up and men, sometimes alcohol. I didn't find that much difference in Poland, some of the women seemed more interested in the world outside but i didn't meet many. My personal opinion is that this has probably occurred because women in Poland are still badly paid and reliant on men economically, the education system has huge flaws and 'thinking for your self is not really encouraged. possibly this is a hang over from the communist era.

That said, you can find all of these less desirable qualities in British women too, regrettably I think more and more British women are looking for the wrong things in life too ( wags, celebs etc...) I also think the British education system is in bad shape these days. No, one race of women, is God given we all have our strong and weak points.

On a totally unrelated note... a lot of British girls are missing out to Polish girls, losing their bfs etc... can cause some resentment.

British men are more likely to go out with Black or Asian girls than Polish ones, so I really doubt this is true and there are plenty of Black, Asian and Polish men who date British women so it redresses this!

Wow, so much trolling in this thread.

I don't think anyone is trolling, we all have different life experiences and experiences of other races. These kind of discussions are very subjective and consequently can be very heated, we all tend to defend our own if we feel we are being attacked! I also think that what men admire in women is very different from what women admire in women and vice versa.

Having come from a long line of early widows and been widowed early myself I do place a great deal of emphasis on independence being an essential quality in women, it's just circumstances ( and a couple of silly mistakes of my own) that shape my views, if i had been brought up in Poland or maybe in a family with more male influence i may have seen things very differently.

Off-Topic / I am a Pariah: My Horror Story [44]

PolkaTagAlong

The USA is a huge place, there will be many towns and cities that have a diverse mixture of cultures and your ethic origins won't be of any consequence.

By the sounds of it you have nearly finished your education ( apologies if I'm wrong there), use it to travel, I'm sure there are still lots of opportunities for medical secretaries

despite the recession. Don't be put off by large numbers of people from other ethnic minorities, Blacks,Asians and Hispanics have culture and education too. It's probably in areas with diverse populations and lots of different ethnic mixes where you will find acceptance.

I've always fancied going to New Orleans myself but like China, Japan and numerous other places it will have to wait until the children have been to University unless I win the lottery!!!

Work / English qualifications to start Teaching English In Poland. Is degree of some sort needed? [123]

In Wroclaw
These links may be useful but I'm not a language teacher so it's a bit of a guess.
onlinetefl.com/EDIcertTEFL
cambridgeesol.org/exams/celta-online/index.htmls

They may allow payment by installments, and the first one caters for students abroad.
Possibly you could work as a native English speaker somewhere and advertise private lessons locally at a lower rate as a native speaker only.
This would give you some income and allow you to find out if you enjoy teaching.
The grammar and subject knowledge comes with time and personal study but this is often the case for all teachers, we rarely know the entire syllabus for a subject when we first start teaching.

It's worth investing in relevant qualifications a) for your pupils and b) for your own esteem and career progress.
There is the added advantage that you can travel to other countries too.
Teaching is the best job in the world if you enjoy it but probably the worst if you don't but it's worth finding out!!!!

Good Luck

News / 1.3% birth rate = Poland's slow death [221]

Have you any 'good' links or know of any books which give personal testaments of this time period? I often asked my ex about the martial law period, he more or less denied it's existence as did his mates??? Just personal interest, I like history.

Thanks.

News / 1.3% birth rate = Poland's slow death [221]

[quote=NewbyN1) it is too expensive and too difficult.[/qu

The economy in Poland doesn't allow young couples to have large numbers of children and working mothers find it difficult to cope with huge families! There aren't the family subsidies in Poland that there are in the UK for example.

quote=NewbyNew: many, particularly but not exclusively women, do not find a suitable partner in their prime reproductive years.

Some women ( certainly in the UK and USA but i don't actually know about Poland) would like both a career and a family and this is easier with a smaller number of children.

Again I really don't know about the situation in Poland but in the UK both British and larger numbers of Polish women are having children without partners, so I'm not sure if this statement is true.

Whatever the reasons it's not a bad thing that the birth rate is falling, obviously there will be problems initially with a top heavy layer of older people but this will even out.

The earth's resources (not just energy resources) are running out and from an environmental point of view we need less humans!!

Life / Do Poles drink before noon? [95]

I can't speak for the habits of Poles in Poland but I was quite horrified to see my ex's friends drinking vodka/spirits at breakfast on a very regular basis. In the factory where I worked, there were occasionally problems with people being drunk or drinking at work, the guilty were sacked on the spot. Alcohol abuse is quite a problem in the Polish community in the UK.

UK, Ireland / British - Stupidest nation in Europe [127]

The publication the article comes from is a bit of a 'rag', so why worry what it says. The British education system is in need of an overhaul, standards have fallen rapidly over the last twenty years. Hopefully this may be rectified? Poland's education system is no better though and there is the problem of 'cheating' and being able to buy qualifications. As nations we should be looking at countries like Japan for some ideas.Whatever the levels of education a nation has there will always be people that have no interest in learning or retaining knowledge. I know British people who don't know who Nelson was but I also know Poles who don't know who Skłodowska was either! Nations aren't stupid but people can be.

Copernicus ,Curie-Skłodowska ,Arctowski ,Heweliusz and Funk are all Poles who I admire for obvious reasons, people who's achievements I would dearly love to emulate but never will! However the list of British scientists who achieved great things is far longer! There are far longer lists of notable British engineers, writers, historians, warriors, sports men, composers, artists too!!!!

IN Poland you have to stay at school for an extra three years to hone your rote learning and cheating skills.

Yes like the woman who insisted that she had a 'degree in psychology' but did not know who Pavlov, Freud or Jung were ( or Eysenck ).

The woman who insisted she had a 'degree in chemistry' but didn't know what 'tytan' or 'rubid' was.
The man with the 'electrical engineering degree' but couldn't explain why copper conducts electricity in Polish or English.
Obviously there are Poles who have a good education, fairly awarded degrees etc... but come to Shropshire and Powys and you'll find lots of Polish people with qualifications that don't seem to teach them the most basic facts of their supposed subject.

Speak for yourself, but the Scottish system is doing well and has just been further decentralised and control put back in the hands of the teachers. You're referring to the English system there ;)

Yes have to agree with you on this one, Scotland has a better education system!

The Polish system is improving rapidly at school level, but there's still the culture issue of cheating being acceptable. I absolutely tore apart one of my classes one day after catching some of them cheating - they now know that trying to cheat results in a major telling off, being sent to the director AND their parents being told as soon as I see them. For some reason, they don't cheat ;)

Good for you but I do think they should be expelled!

As for buying qualifications - if you're in Poland, you know what the difference is. Someone turning up with part time studies in English from a private university will always be known for having bought it.

You know the score as you're in Poland but in the UK it's a problem when people claim 'real' science and engineering degrees, it's dangerous in the workplace!

They can't be, in Poland. Polish law (and the constitution) says that children have a right to an education

Explains why people are prepared to risk cheating. I have read that there is a concerted effort to stop cheating and it's getting better, still a long way to go yet though according to people I know in Poland.

It's why employers should check their background carefully

Yes, that was one of my jobs when I was in the factory, I checked any certificates produced. Usually people were just lying or trying to pass trade school certificates off as university degrees. We soon stopped getting so many problems when it was known that I could tell the difference!!!

One case that completely threw me was a young woman who insisted she had a degree in psychology and was forever demanding an office job with better wages, ( this wouldn't have happened as her English was poor and she had no IT skills). She brought in a degree certificate from an established Polish university, subject was Psychology but she knew absolutely nothing about Psychology not even the more famous pioneers of the subject. Never did get to the bottom of that one because I couldn't get any verification from the university that she had been a student and she left the factory quite suddenly. The 'date of graduation' was 2000.

Almost certainly a fake - if she only had the certificate and not the "dyplom" (which is a little book thing) - then it was certainly lies.

Certainly didn't have the 'dyplom'!!!!! Solves a mystery for me, I didn't at the time think any one would have the nerve to produce a fake certificate!

The fact many thousands of young Polish people travel to the UK in search of jobs and are successful, the fact thousands of young British people claim they can not find jobs and decide on a life of benefit hand outs,

All credit to the young Poles that do go abroad to find jobs, however the situation among the young unemployed in the UK is not quite as simple as it seems.

You are sometimes dealing with people who are from families who have been unemployed for several generations and need education in Life Skills as well as academic subjects, there are also unemployment black spots too!`Plus the whole benefit system needs reorganising. There are many, many young British people who are making huge efforts to find jobs and often working in jobs that are far below their skills.
