Work / What is the average accounting/auditing salary in Poland? [42]

Czesc!!

I'm 26 years old, i'm italian and i speak english (professional level) and french (basic knowledge).
I'm graduated in Business economics (December 2010) at University of Bologna. During my studies i worked for 5 months as accountant (accounting, finance and control field) at a big italian firm.

After degree i worked for 6 month as front office employee at an Italian bank and i've been working since 10 months ago at PwC (accounting, corporate tax, transfer pricing).

I'm looking for a job in Poland because my girlfriend lives over there and also because i like that country and i'd like to live abroad for a period.

Which salary could i expect in accounting/finance sector? I'd prefer to earn 6000 zl brutto, around 4200 net: is it possible?
I read about interesting positions at Accenture (Warsaw) and i ask: in this company and in the big four (PwC, Deloitte, Kpmg, Ernst & Young) are the schedules and paces of work heavy as in Italy? (10/11 hours everyday, often saturdays) etc..

Ps: from your experience can u recommend me any firms? Based in Wroclaw / Krakow /Warsaw.

Life / Opinion about Polish lifestyle: do you like? Strengths and weakness [8]

Hi guys,

i am italian but i have visited Poland many times, for long periods too, spending a lot of time among polish students.

I think i have enough evidence to write my opinion about the polish lifestyle and i can compare it to the italian.

In my opinion, especially in the small towns, the lifestyle is more relaxed, less space to the apperance and focus on little things. Students look open mindend and the average culture is not low. I like also the spirit of sharing, i saw less individuality than in Italy. I appreciate the vodka and the beer, although sometimes they drink too often.

As regard the nightlife i prefer small free entrance clubs as in Krakow than big disco as here in Italy, besides here in Poland girls and boys dance together, not like in Italy whereit's a remote possibility.

Also during the Christmas time, in Poland, families are really close and you can breath a good atmosphere.

About the weakness: I don'like the alimentary habits, i think their food is too fat and grease. Furthermore, they almost don't drink still water.

Sometimes, it's not easy to relation with people older than 40, they don't speak English and it can be not easy to accomplish your task dealing with them.

Polish street are dangerous and tight, too. I think the biggest lack in Poland regards the links between their big and fascinating cities.
I don't like either the polish rap and commercial dance (disco polo), please turn off the stereo!!

Eventually i have to say that i heard many stereotypes about the life in Poland but large part of them are not true. I like Poland and think that their lifestyle is not that far from the western standards.

And what about your experience? :)

Hello folks!

I am going to attend a job interview in Krakow, for a multinational firm which based a SSC in Poland. I have already attended 2 job interviews over the phone.

The vacancy is really interesting since it strictly regards consulting services and not language based position as costumer service jobs.

My concern regards the salary expectation question. During first job interiview they asked it to me and i proposed an amount that now seems too low, from my perspective.

Do you think is it possible to bargain and obtain a higher salary?

I am asking this because a friend of mine told me that he received an offer equivalent to his first request and when he tried to raise it, they did not accept and he lost that opportunity.

Work / Career path in Shared Service Center (SSC) in Poland [4]

I am in contact with a couple of companies which operate in Poland through Shared Service Centers (SSC). My field of activity is accounting / tax, with 2,5 years of experience in Western Europe.

We are talking about a 7.000/8.000 zl gross per month, as first salary.

I have a question:

Is the career path interesting? I mean, is it possible to raise the salary over the years and, if yes, in what percentage?

Thank you both for your replies. I am 27 and i am from Italy.

With regard to the accounting activity, i have to admit it's not a lot fun but working in an accounting department serving Italian market would let me open doors when i want to return. This is my idea.

I am aware that specific and high paid jobs are still here, but actually i aim to obtain, throughout my carrer a satisfactory work / private life balance. I am saying this because i currently work for a big consulting firm (Big 4) and i see that yes people in here with time get high wages but i also noticed the must of them have sacrificed their private lives.

With regard to salaries, in my particular case, i would say that differences are not so high. For example, an accountant earns 1.000 / 1.200 euro per month in Italy, a senior accountat 1.800 /2.000 (but after a lot of years) and cost of living is really high. I am considering Poland because if i could get a slightly lower salary it wouldn't make a big difference, especially in terms of saving. The main problem is that in Italy it's really DIFFICULT to find a new job while in Poland i see many offers for accountants / tax specialists.

With regard with beef up my skills and expertise, i totally agree, i would like to learn a new language and deepen my knowledge in accouting principles, but Big 4 working pace doesn't allow me to do this, for the moment.

Work / Warsaw or Krakow - what is the better place to work in? [19]

Merged: Krakow or Warsaw: which one is better for an expat?

Hi All,

I am an European expat, currently based in the UK, considering two potential job opportunities in Poland: one in Warsaw and one in Krakow. Focusing for a moment only on the cities, which one do you think can be the best fit for an expat?

I have spent a good amount of time in both cities in the past and I do not see huge differences between the two cities. Of course, one can say that Warsaw is posh and Krakow is more traditional, but in terms of quality of living it is difficult to pick one rather than another.

Warsaw is larger and it is the key financial centre in Poland, the city is fast paced and there seem to be a lot going on (outdoor/indoor activities, concerts, etc.). Cracow is smaller, more historical, it seems to be less "aggressive" but still very lively.

The elements which are relevant to me are:

- availability of decent properties to live in well connected to the city centre / key facilities (probaly Warsaw better in this respect)
- availability of interesting post graduate courses (MBA or accounting/finance courses)
- expats community (here probably it is a tie)
- job opportunities (for an expat probably Krakow is better due to the larger number of international centers located in the city)
- availability of green spaces for walking / running (Warsaw?)

I would move with my Polish fiance and I am considering staying there at least 2/3 years and it if all goes well, why not, settling down in Poland. Please do not comment on why Poland or that I should stay in the UK, etc as I have already considered it and I have come to my conclusion.

Work / Salary expectations in Poland [373]

Hi All,

I am considering a job offer in the region of 12k PLN gross per month. I was told that the net salary would be of around 8,400 PLN net.

While checking this using the calculator mentioned below, it seems that 8,400 PLN net is correct. However, as regards the last 3 months of the year, the net amount results significantly lower (i.e. net PLN 6900, 7700 and 7800 respectively). Could any of you help me clarifying this? Do employee in Poland receive a different net compensation over the various months of the year? This seems a non-sense to me.
