Language / I am struggling how to determine which case to use in Polish, can anybody help? [12]

In Latin there is only 5 declensions. Polish has 16 of those and tons of exceptions.
The cases answer questions:
1. who or what is it? lampa
2. whose or what's? lampy
3. to whom? lampie
4. whom? lampę
5. with whom? z lampą
6. about who? o lampie
7. calling lampo!
I admire those African students that I knew in Warsaw, who mastered Polish language in 1 year with all its declensions, conjugations, gradations, diminutives etc.

History / Ducal Prussia 1525 - 1660 [4]

How independent from the Polish Crown was the Duchy of Prussia? I guess, it also depends on when, exactly. Which king was ruling etc. Can anybody provide some information?

So, I guess the Polish overlordship was only on paper and the Polish claims , that this area was ruled by Poland are unsubstantiated. Yes?

Off-Topic / Is 'Russkie' offensive in English? [23]

Yeah, but with "ruski" it's different. Just add "-y" at the end (or "-ye" for plural) , and it's no longer demeaning and all Russians will like it. "Russkiy" and "Russkie" sound close enough, so it should be OK. But then again "Polak" and "Polack" also sound very close, but the latter one is highly offensive. So, over all, I think You're right, only for wrong reasons.

Also I respect the fact you can get offended by it, maybe I'm too easy-going sometimes :D.

If you are so easy going, call an African American a "N*****" and respect the fact he can be offended by it. "P*****" is a well known English derogatory term for Poles and people of Polish descent. It's as strong as "son of a ******". Also, the same kinds of people use the word "N*****", that also use the word "P*****" - bigots, fascists and racists. ;D

Language / Polish and Hungarian, how similar? [53]

Polish is a fusional language, while Hungarian is an agglutinative language. Grammar is completely different. No similarity between the two languages at all, except for a few common words.

Language / Please help me understand Polish adverbs [30]

Why is it "bądź cicho", instead of "bądź cichy"?
After all we have "bądź zdrowy', "bądź odważny" etc, all the words that come to my mind have an adjective after "be".

Why "be quietly"?
Somebody please explain.

Language / Could you please help me to understand Oni vs One? [6]

In Polish there is only two genders: masculine-personal (męskoosobowy) and non masculine-personal (niemęskoosobowy).

Sailors, soldiers, teachers, managers, horsemen, engineers, national group, etc all fall under masculine-personal.

Everything and everybody else is non masculine-personal:
Women, children, cow, fish, books, trees, ghosts etc.

History / When will you Poles give back German land and the cities which you robbed? [557]

quotewhy dont you give back the eastern German lands which you stole

In 1939 Germany sold entire eastern half of Poland to Soviet Union for oil and natural resources (Ribbentrop - Molotov Pact of non-aggression). Poland will NEVER see those lands again, so Germany owes Poland land. Those lands were all Polish in some point of history, anyway. Even East Prussia: Warmia (Ermland) was an integral part of the Polish Kingdom from 1466 to 1772; the rest of East Prussia was a Polish fief from 1466 to 1657. (Only Kłodzko was never a part of Poland, but it was inhabited by Poles.)
