Look at the local governments in Poland, at the bueraucrats in local agencies... a mess is our speciality :) Look at the road builders for example... Some time ago, around 5 years ago, I used to drive to the Czech Republic for business issues. I passed by the building site of the petrol station on A4 motorway. There was around 10 people staying in a circle, one man was working... look at this link: anthillz.net/zdzichu.html, the same situation. On the other side of the border (in Czech), there was a building site of a bridge. In one month the bridge was almost finished, in the same time period in Poland... hehe, you probably expect... was done almost nothing :)

Private companies in PL are more organized, much more.

@Wroclaw: I think you have a street lamp close to your window, you can save money on lightbulbs :)

To be sure, the EU forces any country associated to replace old style bulbs with new energy-save bulbs, but the fact is that you can save money on energy ONLY when the light is on during a long time period. Enegry-save bulbs need to big energy to start and to get warm enough to operate cost-effective as far as I know.

@peterweg: Yes, you are right. Wroclaw is going to buy bulbs for a house usage, so he will turn on and turn off the light quite frequently. Lifetime of energy-save bulbs is not so long, especially when they are being turned on and off many times, additionally they are quite expensive.

I think they are right. I don't know exact details of PL taxation system, but I know there are few taxes included: the income tax (depending on the amount 18 or 32% - 18% is to some income level, above this level the country takes 32%), the second is so called - ZUS (Zaklad Ubezpieczen Spolecznych or Zaklad Utylizacji Szmalu :) ) - they take 3 different taxes (insurances :) ), one is for the retirement pension, one for the medical treatment and one for something like a social insurance (I don't know exactly). If you have a legal employment contract then you can't avoid these taxes... sad but true, the cost of employment in PL is very high.

Take a look on a flea market on Gnieznienska, I bought an old clock there, I'm satisfied. But everything depends what are you looking for, on Gnieznienska you can find almost everything what can be transported by a van :)

I'm planning to visit this market in the next week, note that this market exists only the last Thursday-Saturday in every month. The best time for shopping is Thursday early morning :)

Sorry, this is misinterpretation... I haven't ever heard the word of "kocina" in meaning of a meat... and surely not "psina" :) In Poland we don't eat dogs and cats... so these words don't exist in PL language.

The last name of Kociński has roots in the word of "kot" - cat, or maybe some locality as Kocina, Kocin etc. That's all I can imagine.

I have a different opinion :) That's a matter of an interpretation, I think the right sentence should be "Rozbitkowie odżywiali się jedząc psy, koty itp.". In case if they eat birds (e.g. a sparrow), should we say - "wróblina" ?:) I think it's language misuse, but on the other hand, from philosophy point... it can make some sense from logic matter... :) The fact that I haven't ever met with this group of words in this meaning, doesn't make it wrong or not existing :)

Backing to the topic... I think the root of the last name of Kociński is the word of "kot" :)
