Travel / My trip to Krakow and its ups and downs. [70]

i don't mind reading people's opinions if they are true, but it just sounds like this guy has a chip on his shoulder because of meeting a couple of guys. I don't mind some one saying any thing bad about something if it is based on fact.

I would say that the roads are not the best and krakow airport is a bit of a disappointment. But then I find 95% of the people that i meet are grand.

okay maybe not a chip on shoulder, but it sounds as if he is making a bigger deal than it was( with his reference to how England helped Poland, why throw that in), you get people that are arrogant in every city in every town.

Travel / Best clubs in Krakow? No tourist traps. [64]

Hi Mark

I was in a small bar(only one in village) about 40mins outside Katowice, when the biggest polish guy i ever saw started to ask where i was from when he heard me speak polish(in a bad way). I just had a bit of banter with him and he was fine. He kept asking thinks in english, i think he just wanted to learn a few new words. It turned out that my polish wife knew him from school, he was in the army and being to afgan. I think, if you treat people with respect and a certain degree of common sense you will get on fine

Law / Benefit entitlement in Poland for foreigners [37]

I've thinking of heading to Aus, get all the benifits I can there. Oh wait they have laws stating that you need a certain amount of cash availble to last you your stay, or they put you back on a plane home the same day.

Why on earth would you think that Poland as a European country(which is in the biggest recession since WW2(europe not Poland) would give you free items when you have not completed a days work in the said country.

If they were to provide anything, i would assume that it would be means tested.

Travel / My trip to Krakow and its ups and downs. [70]

Hi Did any one see the program that Ross Kemp did on Sky 1 about football holligans around the world. When he went to Poland, he saw some of the hardest guys ever(would you not be after years of russian control). Its showed what they did and what the police were trying to do to control them.

But I have to say as a Irish man, I don't think too many tourist's that visit Ireland would go to Ballymun,Ballyfermont( both in Dublin which are major drug area's) or Moyross in Limerick which even the police do not like to go into.

The point Iam making is that there are tourist area's and then other area's which the even the locals try to avoid. Even the driver that I use in Krakow give's out that the centre of krakow is too tourist based in the summer.

I drove into a estate outside of Katowice once, thinking it may not be so good, but it was okay.

Law / Benefit entitlement in Poland for foreigners [37]

I just thought that I would throw in the aussie debate to dissolve the queen as the head of state. If this happens, then our aussie friend will not have any brit connection? If the aussies take vote on this then prob solved. She will not be a 'european citizen'.

UK, Ireland / Disgusting, fat and lying Polish women and Illegal immigration in UK [73]

Aussie shiela has a major problem, she's based in Aus, but yet giving out about women on the other side of the world. On a prior posting, she was asking if she could travel to Poland and then live on Polish benifits for a year or 2.

Love / Is it wrong for Polish girls to kiss boys before marriage ? [31]

is this just another troll? You say you are kurdish, how did you meet Polish girl? If you fell like divorce because of your wife kissing a boy before she met you, you need to toughen up a bit. It seems that you are more sensitive than a girl. Did you ever kiss anyone before you married.

Why did you marry someone who is from a different culture, surly you must know that European women are not the same as kurd's

Law / Irish welcome on Polish building sites ? [47]

This guy is some gob ****, from his football club it appears that he is based in Tallaght. Why should we deport 200k poles from our country? If you want to deport people, why not do it to all the african's who back in the height of it were forming massaive queues at the offices on Month st to get into the country because they said they would be killed if they return home.

Iam not being racist here, but the poles only came when they were allowed to work. The polish people for the general have worked and paid their taxes.

Would you like the USA to kick out all the illegal irish?

I think maybe you applied for a job in mcdonald's and a pole got it, you are a bit bitter in life.

Oh and before you say I have a problem with Tallaght, I don't, I know that the manager in the irish mbassy in Krakow is from there, and he seems to enjoy his life in Poland

Law / Online Polish banking (in English) [27]

I find BZ BWK to be fine, their e banking is in english. When I went into the branch ( in katowice), they had a guy there speaking english, and he showed me everything. He was there when i picked up my visa debit card and showed me how to use the atm machine(it was the same as any atm but still, nice).

When I had a problem in Krakow with the card, it was okay for a transfer, their staff knew enough english.

News / Polish Domination by Germany [69]

The whole point of the EU is to bring the countries together and to make the union stronger that if we had 27 seperate countries operating alone. The downside is Germany and France seem to have more power, because they are more worried that their ratings will be cut.

I know that not everyone here will like this, but seeing that Germany economy is performing so well, would it not be a bad thing for all of us to become a little more german in our manner in relation to our economy. As I Irishman(before you start giving out why is a irish man on here, I have company that employs 10 fulltime people in poland) I can see that our county needs a massive change in our mindset. Here you can go on the social welfare(188 euro per week), get your rent paid, your medical paid. I would prefer to see a system of people unemployed not getting cash, but getting vouchers for food and basics, maybe a little cash like 30 or 40 eur per week. Sorry I went on a bit of a rant off topic, but we need to adopt the german thinking

News / Polish Domination by Germany [69]

if poland opts to keep the zl, then it has more control over inflation, simple fact is that germany has nightmares about inflation and that is what it is trying to control. That is why they do not want to do eurobonds

Work / Moving and working in PL as a teacher (near Zory/Katowice) [53]

Hi, iam not being negative here, but why move to a country where you don't know the lingo. Why is a somewhat type of job? You should maybe do a TELFe course in Dublin while you attend a Polish course in Ireland(I think they are around 250euro for a 4 month course.

Work / Moving and working in PL as a teacher (near Zory/Katowice) [53]

If you do decide to go for it, here are a few things that might keep you sane. The cinema's in the main shopping center in Katowice show some films(maybe most of them) in English with Polish subtitle's.

RTE now stream all of the Irish football on line, also the GAA matches.

If you work hard, and take on extra lessons yourself, then maybe you make a bit of money.

Can I ask if you are qualified in anything, if not, could you study for ACCA exams in Poland. English teaching would be okay for a few years, but it would help you to have a plan to have a job that you like instead of just for the money.

I'am in Dublin at the moment, if you want to meet and have a chat about life in Poland for a irish guy let me know.

I was just saying that studying ACCA while doing something else would give you better prospects. You do not need to work in accounts to do the ACCA, but to get fully qualified you do need to have 3 years of work in accounts.

Life / Poles hard working or just born lazy. [58]

My Polish father in law has taken up jobs outside of Poland for the last 25 years so he could provide for his family and send the kids to uni. As a bonus, he managed to build a second house in the mountains by hand, it took 4 years but what a house

Travel / Poland traffic signs are confusing.. Do you agree? [30]

its not confusing at all, if someone is walking on the zebra you stop. I find it useful that they show a amber light before green. As a general rule in traffic, if you see a gap you go for it. You just need to keep the speed the same as around you and keep an eye on out before you make your move.

Life / Program on DMAX 'Trouble in Poland' [2]

Hey Guys, just watching a program on DMAX titled Trouble in Paradise, attacked in Poland. Its about a couple returning to their apartment in Warsaw(the guy is Aussie, girl Polish), they see 4 guys drinking outside the entrance of their block and they get talking to them. Then the 4 guys beat the crap out of the guy, try to rape the girl, but the aussie guy stops them. When the police arrive they try to arrest the Aussie guy. The Aussie guy then gets in trouble with the Polish mafia for identifying the guys that attacked them. I'am sure this is a isolated attack.

What do you think

Life / Does Polish society accept new people especially those not from Poland [41]

When I arrived in a small village about 30 mins outside Katowice I was treated like a star. We went to the only bar in the area, and this massive skinhead just started talking to me when he heard that i was not a polish. For our wedding, the whole village helped out, with B&B's(no hotels) helping us, we had booked up every room in the village.

When I go to Krakow, some of the people are a bit more busy, but in Katowice center I find them really helpfull. I found the police really helpfull when looking for directions and such.

Life / Does Polish society accept new people especially those not from Poland [41]

This happened to my in laws, the grand father offered the workers a beer one day, when the father in law found out he went crazy. He said only offer them a beer when they have finished the work. Also, he said someone needs to look over them all day.
