Genealogy / Ksenofont Malewana [10]

Can anybody shed any light on this name?

Hi all

New here so nice to meet you all. My name is Richard, Im from Leeds in UK. I have been researching my Polish family history but can't seem to find any information whatsoever on the meaning of my great grandfathers name. He was called Ksenofont Malewana, is this name very uncommon in Poland as simply typing Ksenofont into google doesnt bring anything up. I know the meaning of the names of my other polish ancestors but simply can't find a thing on my great grandfathers name.

Many thanks in advance if anybody knows anything about this name.

Thanks for the quick reply.

Apologies, Ksenofont is actually my great great grandfather.

I have copies of my great grandmothers death certificate and also her marriage certificate. On both of these documents it lists her parents and her fathers name is definately spelt Ksenofont on both of those.

Thanks Dommie, I never knew that Malewana was a Jewish name.

My other ancestors were called Krawczyk, Radzikowska and Nowacka if there are any other intersesting facts about these names that anybody knows? I know that Krawczyk tends to mean 'son of a taylor' and Nowacka has something to do with been 'new to town'?

As with the name Ksenofont, Malewana / Malewany is spelt like this on a number of official documents which I have (birth / death / marriage certificates) so I can only assume that it is spelt that way.

Genealogy / Ksenofont Malewana [10]

The documents I have are from Poland, one of them been a copy of the original hand written death certificate from the registry office in Wschowa and the others been certified 'modern' typed copies recieved via the Polish Consulate in Manchester from the registry office in Lodz.

There is conflicting information on the documents though, the hand written death certificate states place of birth as been Kamieniec Podolski, which I believe to be in modern day Ukraine, where as the marriage certificate states place of birth as been Kordyliowka.

Genealogy / The Polish Coats of Arms & Nobility system [5]

Hi all

Can someone explain about the Polish Coat of Arms system?

My grandfather talked about his grandmothers family been nobility and she used to come to town when he was a child on a droska and the locals used to line the streets to see her.

Now, her surname would of been either Malowany or Radzikowska (unsure which grandmother he would of been reffering to). I have seen on various websites that Radzikowski(a) belongs to the Ogonczyk coat of arms but what does this actually mean? Does every polish family with the name Radzikowski use this coat of arms or is it specifically given to individual families etc etc? Is there a way to trace which Radzikowski families were given the COA?

I know uts probably a really simple answer but Im just getting confused!

Genealogy / A long shot but... -looking for any info about Krawczyk & Sasiadek family [2]

Good evening everyone

I have had quite an element of success lately in finding out some names of my family members from Poland back to around my great great grandparents so Im wondering if any of these names may mean anything to anybody or maybe some of the names I have may be related to others on this forum too? Starting with the oldest...

Michal Krawczyk & Waleria Krawczyk (nee Radzikowska) (great great grandparents)
Jozef Krawczyk & Maria Krawczyk (nee Malawana) (great grandparents) /// Felic, Sigmund & Wladyslaw Krawczyk (great uncles)
Wlodzimierz, Zofia, Henia and Halina Krawczyk (grandfather and his sisters)
Janusz Krawczyk, Yvonna Krawczyk (married surname unknown) Yerzig Krawzyk, Grazyna Krawczyk(cousins once removed)
Sylwia Krawczyk, Wioletta Krawczyk (married surname unknown), Bartek Sasiadek, Pawel Sasiadek, Dominik Sasiadek, Krystof Sasiadek

All originally from the Lodz area although now living in Wschowa and Leszno I believe.

I know its a real long shot but its got to be worth a try!
