Travel / Bars and clubs in Warsaw and best district to stay [18]

Merged thread:
Best bars in Warsaw?

Cześć everyone,

I'm new to PF and somewhat new to Warsaw / Poland. I was wondering what people felt were the best 'dive bars' in Warsaw, particularly in the center of town.

To clarify what a dive-bar is, I suppose it is more along the lines of a knajpa. It should have cheap beer, good music and be a fun place. Not that I'm looking for a rough joint, it's just that I don't enjoy the club scene, and would much rather just sit and enjoy a cold beer talking with friends than dance to techno / house music.

Thanks for any tips, and cheers.
Tom

Life / International calling cards for public pay phones working in Poland? [14]

I also got a laugh from the

you now the frog shop.

I also would recommend Skype. However, if Skype is not appropriate for this call, as you said, there is a calling card at Żabka that has the US flag on it and I believe is valid for Canada as well. Good luck.

Real Estate / Warsaw life, flat rate for rent, is it worth to live there? [10]

1700 is a little high, you can do better than that, or if you pay that you can at least have a better location (not that Old Praga is bad, just that for 1700 you could be in the very center of the city).

Be advised that if you go through a middle-man bureau / real-estate agency, you should be prepared to pay around one month's rent as a fee to the realtor, plus 22 % VAT on this. If you can find a trustworthy deal without a middleman, it could save you some money, but has its own risks.

Here is a useful site for Warsaw apartments / studios. If you do not speak Polish, you might want to know the word ,kawalerka' - this is a bachelor's pad / studio, which I think you are looking for: oferty.net/mieszkania,Warszawa

Good luck!

Travel / Bars and clubs in Warsaw and best district to stay [18]

Thanks for the tips everyone! Fortunately, I am going to be in Warsaw until summer, so plenty of time left to get to know the city / bar-scene better.

Zed: Thanks, I have heard that it's a good bar, but as for the sunshine, I might have to wait a little while for that! :(
