Food / Malinówka & other cordials [14]

I have been making home made liqueurs (nalewki) for years. My favorite is malinowka. I make it using my own raspberries. The recipe was given to me by my polish relatives. They make nalewki out of several different fruit.

Another one of my favorites is pigwowka, made out of quince fruit. It is said that the best pigwowka is made out of ornamental quince. The fruit is not usually available in stores but you can grow your own. No commercially available liqueur compares. These are not pasteurized or distilled and contain tons of vitamins and antioxidants.

Real Estate / Debica Poland real estate - building for profit. [17]

rafal, I have several residential lots near a major city in Poland. I bought a chunk of land zoned for farming and after few years successfully got the zoning changed. I considered all available options and discussed this with many people in Poland including my R/E agent and friends who are builders. Like you, I have means do develop the land and sell homes. After many months of brain storming we concluded that the best and safest option is to sell undeveloped lots.

Make sure you review your covenants which should specify what you can build on each lot (it will include area coverage %, roof design, # of dwellings allowed etc.) Good Luck!

Love / Irish woman dating a Polish man - need advice about my polish boyfriend and marriage [24]

1. Wait for the papers he ordered
2. Do you know any of his relatives-siblings, children, parents?. If not, don't you find it strange that he wants to get married before introducing you ?

3. Consider background check (i know it sounds strange, but may save you a lot of grief later) Check for previous marriages, possible alimony payments, criminal history etc.

4. Something tells me that he wants to move fast knowing that you might be blinded be love.
5.Take you time, use common sense. YOU are your #1 concern.

USA, Canada / Polish Citizen, US legal resident, but no Polish Passport... [67]

Curious. If you were a member of Solidarity, then you were in Poland in 1980 at the earliest. Everyone was issued a PESEL in 1979 or so, so the internet says.

Not True. There were no PESEL numbers in 1980 or 1981 for that matter.
You can receive a PESEL if you were born in Poland. If you were born outside of Poland (but claim polish citizenship) you must first place your foreign, translated birth certificate in Poland. Usually Warsaw or birthplace of your parents.

USA, Canada / Polish Citizen, US legal resident, but no Polish Passport... [67]

Oh yes there was. The PESEL system was introduced in the mid 70's as I recall.

It was introduced in 1979 but not implemented nationwide until later. I lived in Poland until late1981 and was never given one nor was required to have one. Perhaps it became mandatory after the Martial Law.

USA, Canada / American Marrying Polish woman - visa question [41]

Your chances of winning the lottery are more favourable.

I disagree. I have relatives and friends from Poland visiting me in US quite frequently. Some of them young and single.
The chances of her getting a visitor's visa are about 50/50. Assuming she has a job and some possessions in Poland in her own name.

But when she comes here we will get a civil wedding, what documents will we need. Do hers need translated and if so by sworn translator?

You need to contact a city hall to find out. Most likely a birth certificate (translated) and a document verifying her single status. But, there is always Las Vegas!!!

What will she need to work and get drivers license, what is the path? How long does each step take?

She will need a Social Security of course. Keep in mind she will not be able to work legally until she is a permanent resident.

If she is successful getting a visa, do not take a chance sending her back until she is a US resident! She may have to remain in Poland until she is awarded a green card. If you a serious about this relationship, do ask an attorney to take you step by step.

USA, Canada / American Marrying Polish woman - visa question [41]

urszula

After you marry her you will be questioned by the US embassy to see if your marriage is pro bono and ask you personal questions in seperate rooms. This is illegal, marrying on a tourist visa, but people still do it but I wouldn't recommend it.

Here we go. Another "solid" legal advice above!
Can you quote the statute which states that marrying someone with undocumented status or visitor's visa is a crime? It would only be illegal if done for a sole purpose of obtaining a green card or citizenship, without the intend to remain married.
