Law / Business Etiquette (Polish companies' dealings with clients in other counties) [14]

after chatting to someone today i got the impression that Polish companies don't do enough when it comes to dealing with clients in other countries.

Couldn,t agree more. People with attitude and no common sense.

the preference is always face to face meetings with externals.

Been down that road too, as I like the personal introduction, but in Poland it just does not work like it does in the west. The poles have a lot of catching up to do when it comes to business etiquette. At the moment they are trying to do things their way, because they always think they know best, unfortunately they haven,t got a clue............ yet.

I don't understand why people still use kantors.

If the Polish national bank gave a better rate than the kantors, then this would put an end to them and exchanging money would become normal like in the west, not to mention the Polish bank would reap the rewards.

Hitman how many times have you done it? did you have any problems or anything memerible happen to you?

Fog, torrential rain, road works, wheel falling off trailer on entering PL...... you name it.

Basically I just head for Berlin, yep, one long drag, but can,t go wrong really.

Done the journey 20-30 times now, and it always seems like an adventure, always a story to tell, and what seems like a trip to hell, is always laughable on recollection.

I might just write that book one day. lol

Travel / Driving to Poland from England - any tips? [264]

do you drive on the weekends or on week days? which is best do you think?

Week days always busy, so I tend to leave 5am saturdays.
Some people like to leave in the evening, to arrive in Dover, get a crossing and be in Calais in the morning. Big mistake as it keeps you awake when you would normally be sleeping, hence you arrive in France wanting a kip. If not, a few hours on the motorway and you feel shagged.

Arrived in PL one year on Sunday morning. It was like a ghost town, the best run through PL I ever had. Szczecin - Gdansk.

Not thinking of writing a book about this road trip are you ? lol
Thats my idea.

but i need some money first...!

Sounds to me like your revenue could be right in front of your nose.
Farm ?........ sounds interesting and it doesn,t have to be a farm the way people envisage it. Depending on its location, size, etc.
I have some ideas, and what else could be better than being your own boss in PL. where employment for foreigners is a myth. ( unless you teach boring English )

News / Komorowski won Poland's presidency vote? [125]

All my friends, who voted for Marek Jurek in the first round, stayed home today as well.

That makes me sick.

Your friends should not moan in the future now, should Komorowski turn out to be shite.

They have effectively put him in power..... why waste your vote ?

Wasters, the bloody lot of you.

If they voted, at least they could have said, " I did " or " I did not " influence the outcome.

News / Poland - the least liked German neighbour. [210]

True, Poland should work with Germany and Russia, both, and with other neighbors. Put the past in the past and move forward!

Best post I,ve read tonight. Cheers!!

GOOD!!

Can,t have it all your own way always. Learn to yield a little. Like Wroclaw says , see it through the eyes of an outsider.

News / Does Poland live up to its freedom rights? [23]

Does Poland live up to its freedom rights?

No, categorically no..

still too many afraid to speak out of line..

still corruption exists..

what other populus puts up with some of the sh1t going on in current affairs..

elected by the people, just do their own thing ( with decisions ) regardless what those who put them into power think. ie. The cross issue in Warsaw.

Many have seen a 100% improvement since the fall of communism, but dont realize it can still be 100% better.

News / Does Poland live up to its freedom rights? [23]

Corruption is part of life in almost every country.

Everything has a level / threshold, PL,s is still rather high to my liking.

Poles are afraid to speak out of line? Really?

Depends what circles you are involved with.

Better? It is getting better all the time

No, not with the present ruling party. People say they are happy with the peace, ( meaning they are happy not to be investigated ) that they have been left with a free hand, as they likewise leave the gov. with a free hand.

This is where corruption still exists, and with gov. officials involved. ( always these affairs are publicized through the media ) ...... every week, at times.

With this current understanding " its not getting better all the time " but is standing in one place and not moving forward as rapidly as it could.

This is only my personal opinion, but what the heck that,s what debates are all about, eh ?

Real Estate / TRESPASSING ON MY LAND IN POLAND....what can i do legally...? [119]

When my neighbour emigrated to the states, his place was taken apart brick by brick. The banging of sledge hammers went on day and night all year long until all that was left of a 600m dwelling was a pile of rubble.

When I reported these goings on to the police chief, he told me, each must take care of their own. Thanks I said, tomorrow it might happen to you, so I will remember your advice.

Seven hectares of chain link fencing has subsequently gone to the scrapper too.
The orchard resembles something after a fallout.... need I say more ?

My advice would be to beat them to picking the fruit, and if they show up beat them with a baseball bat. They are hardly going to report you, after trying to steal YOUR fruit.

As for moving.... count your loses, unless you install a caretaker. Maybe use the same scum that are ripping you off, ( contract of course ) and get someone to look in from time to time, unannounced.

Good luck wildrover, hope to bump into you before you leave.

Food / Is Polish food still more natural than in the West? [142]

The good natural foods in Poland are in decline due to EU policies, soon it will be as bad as anywhere else in europe. Plus in order to make ends meet, livestock farming conditions have also deteriorated.

Pity we can,t go back to the old ways, sometimes old methods are better than the new.

Life / Polish ghost stories [38]

On a late arrival to Poland on all souls day, I was surprised to see the church open just on the stroke of midnight. Great, I thought, this will earn me a few brownie points with my old aunties. So I attended a pleasant mass in latin, which I last experienced when I was a kid.

The next morning at breakfast I explained my late arrival and the fact that I attended the midnight mass. My relatives looked in horror as I described the priest, whom they seemed to recall as one who had passed over in the early 1900,s and also that there was no such masses scheduled at that time.

Has anyone heard this saying in Poland ...... " The day is for the living, the night is for the dead "

This was a mass for the dead.

Don,t have nightmares now ..........
