It's not an eay life in Poland for 6 months you will have a great time. everything is very cheap here. You may experience racism but there are muslims here. I first came here in 2004 to visit and when a black guy got on the bus everyone stared at him. Now there are lots of different nationalities and people from all over the world in the bigger cities. They'll surprised you're Danish though :P

Good luck. some people can do it but it's not easy. I struggle massively especially with declination.

Melbourne is great. i lived there for 6 months and spent 4 travelling round the country. It's the best place to live now by standard of living but you'll need loads of money as it's really expensive. When I lived there 5 years ago I got 2.6 aus to the pound...now it's 1.5

The most boring city in Oz is Adelaide, followed by Melbourne, Rockhampton and Townsville. Trust me, I'm Aussie. ;)


Guessing you're from Katherine or Coober Pedy. Travelled all over Oz and Melbourne would be my place to live. Sydney was dull.

Language / I need advice - how long does it take to learn Polish? [70]

It depends. I have been here 3 years and am still basic but for the first 18 months I was working so much I didn't have time or money for lessons. Now I have a more stable position (teaching English of course) and do a language exchange. My problem is I always feel stupid and this led me to become an introvert as I couldn't say what I wanted as I am really an extrovert. If you spend about a year having lessons and then just use the language everywhere it will help a lot. Now I am at a weird stage where I can communicate and people understand my broken Polish but I don't understand as much as I can say so I have problems with replies to my questions or when a conversation starts and I have no context to base it on. Conversely I have a friend who has been here 7 years and is self taught and completely fluent. It depends on the person and also your first language. Any slavic language and you'll be like a native in 2 years. English/German/French/Spanish anything from 18 months-15 years to reach good intermediate.

I think maybe you should not have children. Then you don't have to worry about the responsibility, but unfortunately you did.

The 30-40 Russians/Croats/Ukranians I've met is my only sample. They all achieved this. In my class the russians had been here 3 weeks, everyone else 2-10 years and they get 98% on the test and jump 5 classes.

Kevvy don't worry. The more exposure to the language the better you'll get. My tip with the family is try to have limited number of in a group to talk too. I enjoy speaking to my future in-laws in Polish with my fiancee as when I don't know a word I just say 'Jak sie mowi dreading po polsku?' and I have a new word. However, I absolutely hated it when we had 15-20 people sat round the table talking native speed. My tip is laugh when they do until you realise they're talking about you ;-)

Given that abortion is illegal in Poland I'm not surprised.
