hmm, i'm in a similar situation. I just got back from my first visit to poland recently and i had an amazing time. The people that i came across were friendly and helpful. The town was lovely and there was a real sense of tradition which was nice, but of course you cannot judge a country on a weeks holiday ;) good luck to you

I moved to Poland not so long ago and live with my boyfriend in his parents house, with quite a few other family members. It has not been easy and my life here is completely different to the one I had in England, in so many ways. No one ever said it would be easy, but I made the decision and things get better as time goes on. Just the only difficulty is finding a job and I don't want to teach English

I have heard something about the 183 day thing, but I haven't signed an official contract yet so I cannot be sure 100% of my hours, but I will have maybe 20 hours a month. The contract will be for at least one year.

Hi, I'm an English native speaker who has been living in Poland since January and teaching since September. I will start arranging private lessons soon, but am unsure of what to charge. My employer who is Polish charges 40zl per 45 mins and has suggested that I should charge more because I'm a native speaker. However, I would like to offer 40zl per 45 mins because I feel a higher price for my services at this time is unjustified. I would be grateful for some advice on what other English native speakers think about my situation. I am working in a small town and for now I am just working 2 days a week, so choosing the right price to offer is important. Too expensive and there is a chance I could drive people away. My employer has suggested that I charge more because in the future it will be difficult to change which I understand, but I'm still not sure what to do.

So another bump in the road has appeared it seems. I will have my first private lesson soon and the student will have one hour with my boss and the second hour with me, so the lessons will be at the school. I had already given the price as 40zł for 45 mins and was told yesterday by my boss that the student will pay 50zł - 40 for me and then 10 "for the room". I was previously thinking to offer 50zl, but now that is going to be too expensive because in actual fact the student would pay 60zl. Travelling to their homes is an option, but I was wondering if anyone else has been in a similar situation and what they think about it. She is my boss and if she wants to charge for the room when nobody is using them anyway (She rents three rooms for the month) there is nothing I can do about it. Or should I try to talk to her about it and find out if she is also charging extra for the room with her private lessons or just mine?

Thanks for the advice, I have spoken with my boss and understand the situation a bit better now. I was also wondering what is the best way to advertise myself for private lessons? My boss said that i could put a sign up in the school, but only after she has given me as many hours and she thinks she can. Any suggestions?

Hi, I am getting married in Poland this year. I am going to get my CONI in England next week and they have told me that I need to ask the people in Poland what has to be written in "Place of marriage". They said that it's Poland's decision whether it be for example the town "Stary Targ" or the actual address of the church. Has anyone had any experience of this? I am going there later today to ask them, but just in case they are not sure exactly, I thought I'd ask here. Also, if someone does have experience of this, was just telling them in England enough? Or did you need some kind of document to prove that Poland said this is what they want on the CONI? Thanks

Working remotely in Poland for a US company

Hi, I was wondering if anyone works remotely in Poland for a US company? I've been in touch with a few different tax advisors, but it would be good to talk to someone in a similar boat.

I have a few questions but the biggest one right now concerns VAT. It's still not clear to me if my employer would need to pay the American version of VAT.

Thanks! This is what I assumed too, although I've read on multiple sites that in the case of invoicing a company outside of Europe, (they are first sending me money and later I'm giving an invoice) I need to state that the VAT charge is on them which I'd rather not do. I don't want to make them concerned.
