Food / Cream of Tartar (Warsaw) [7]

Cream of Tartar is used for dishes such as meringues. It helps to stabalize the egg whites. It has nothing to do with salads. You may be thinking instead of tartar sauce which is used as a condiment with fish.

The person above who said something about substituting lemon juice or vinegar is on the right track. For 1.25 ml of cream of tartar use 2.5 ml of vinegar or lemon juice. Vinegar, particularly may change the flavor of the food. With lemon juice perhaps a bit of sugar will help.
