Food / Barszcz czerwony recipe (Beetroot Soup) [48]

My grandmother made a soup that she served to us at Christmas Eve (Wigilia) dinner. Some say it was a sauer kraut soup, some a vinegar soup, some mushrooms. It was a clear broth, similar to chicken broth. BUT, it was a MEATLESS soup, since Wigilia is a meatless meal in the Polish tradition.

If a red colour soup, it's "barszcz z uszkami" (red comes from the beetroots) ,the most popular soup at Christmas Eve dinner.

If a white colour soup, it's "bialy barszcz" or "zupa grzybowa" = mushroom soup

She said word "boska" and it can be americanized Polish word coming from "boss"

In Polish "boska" means "divine", that's why she called your child ( a girl) like that. It has nothing to do with Baska or Basia or Barbara

eg: Jestes boska (if a girl) / Jestes boski (if a boy).
and means: You are divine

Language / "Zaraz wracam" - Why not "zaraz wrócę" ? [32]

So, why do you write Zaraz wracam,

I'm not an expert , but "zaraz wracam" is used in signal language
(declarative)- it's a written sign, similar to "open" (czynne) or "closed" (zamkniete).

You know, it's like when you say: "I'm going for holiday next month". So although it's in the future, you use the present tense. The same here.

Yes ..but there are some (known to others) signs to explain it...why. And the signs don't need to be put in any "tenses"!

Like a road signs.
