I would call it a false start Seanus (it's only on Monday, remember) ;)
but I really feel for you here - it is as if I could get hold of proper 'kiszone/kwaszone ogórki' after a year in England - btw I got a superb recipe that uses 'kiszone ogórki' - well I created it myself - it is a Polish-Mexican blend ;) sort of

Particularly what is going on with the picture top right?

this is a piece of clothing to make your shoulders warm - I think it's for people who have rheumatism in their shoulders (what is the proper English word for 'rheumatism'? ;)

I might have to get some of those bootees though ... they are well sexy!

these are sort of house boots - warm enough for older people who have cold feet - anyway they wouldn't be very practical outdoor shoes (guess they will soak pretty easy because of the way they are made) - anyway they sure can be quite comfortable

Love / How common is it for husbands in Poland to open their wife's mail ? [30]

Also, does anyone know if the postal service in Poland delivers registered mail ?

it does - at least when it is inland mail - don't remember now how registered mail from abroad is treated (but I think it is taken notice that the mail is marked as registered)

the thing is in Poland registered does not mean that the mail will not fall into the hands of relatives living in the same household - the practice is any relative living in the same household can sign for the addressee if she/he is not present (I don't know the legal aspects of that practice)

I am not really familiar with English cuisine - just once did I eat in a hospital cantine where I worked on a demolition job (no - we didn't knock down the whole place ;) - and the stuff I had was very good though it was nothing like anything Polish I know of (in a sense I don't know of any similar things in traditional Polish cuisine) - the thing is in my opinion that English cuisine is sadly hardly present in English streets (except for full English breakfast in the pubs) - McDonalds is hardly English cuisine

I'm gonna buy a bottle (or two) for myself - it's brilliant with lettuce (with cream - the Polish style (also the cream used is Polish style i.e sour))

Law / What is the quickest and cheapest way to send money to a bank account in Poland? [37]

there should be no problem transfering some money to a Polish bank account from a British one - however I don't know the price they will charge you (but guess it can be pricey) - as for how long is it gonna take - hmm - a couple of days

now - my bro used to work in Northern Ireland and had an account in the Bank of Ireland - he was able to transfer money to a euro account in Poland free of charge (it took two-three days) - as far as I can remember their exchange rates were quite reasonable too

UK, Ireland / Sad life of a Polish migrant in the UK. Ch. 5 - Racism [259]

Yes I make effort in every European language..:)Dzięki Gumi...xx ..and yes Gumi...close to a decade, there were thousands of Poles here working before 2004 as I am sure you know....with their children in state schools and using the Health service...

thousands - ok - London is 15 million?
and Polish people were only entitled to state schools and health service when they had their children borne in the UK who automatically became UK citizens (as far as I know) - Polish people were not entitled to be emloyed legally - so they were not entitled to most/some of the benefits even if parents to a child borne in the UK (unless residents)

if they wanted to become residents they had to start a firm and pay taxes accordingly (and of course pay rents pay taxes in everyday goods etc) - I don't know what the tax credit is and how it works so I have no idea if it could have been used to their benefit

highly educated

I think highly educated is wrong a word here (though some are actually highly educated) - but a couple of years ago master's degree (magisterium) was quite an achievement in Poland and many people who went to England had these

well - not my fault that you let in all sorts of low-life from around the world - the thing is it is somehow Poles who take the brunt of a general dissentiment towards foreigners (there are Polish low-lifes as well there)

UK, Ireland / Sad life of a Polish migrant in the UK. Ch. 5 - Racism [259]

People who have spent close to a decade claiming tax credits and child benefits running home to Poland whining about every aspect of life in the UK.

you must be talking about Gipsies - can't think of other Polish citizens that were allowed to do that (for a decade) - wasn't it 2004 that Poles were allowed to work in the UK

I also understood why girls in English school gang up and beat up Polish girls - it's not racism, or xenophobia, it's just that our faces and clothes are just a little different, and they feel threatened.

I find it very true, there is some deeply ingrained insecurity/fear in English psyche - look at the peadophile paranoia there - while most don't seem to notice what is really a threat: how vile, cruel, barbaric their younger generations are getting.

People who have spent close to a decade claiming tax credits and child benefits running home to Poland whining about every aspect of life in the UK.

well I was in England a couple of times - stayed there a year in 2003-2004, been there again some four months between 2004-2005 and again about two months in 2006 - been there to earn some money - with more or less succes - it maybe true what you write - I don't have too high an opinion about the Poles as a nation - I don't find pleasure in having to deal with low lifes - the only thing is I haven't met actual Polish low-lifes in England - must be because before 2004 they were not streaming into Britain and in 2006 i wasn't just running around to find and socialize with Poles - those that I met were ok - and yes some Polish people I met were racist in the sense they held blacks and some other in comtempt - to be honest I myself made fun with them about the blacks and say Indians - maybe you find it horribly wrong but I find it innocent as long as there is just the humour thing - and well I used to work with black people and with indian people and with Pakistani people and we mostly got on well (I may be wrong but most Polish people I know use good-hearted humour and not vile/offensive which seems to me to be a feature of many Enlgish jokes I heard)

Niejestemcapita has made the effort to learn Polish, I believe; she's not just assuming mutual intelligibility, ty hloupá dívka :p

are you sure she did - maybe just learned it from her friends - when learning is part of fun I wouldn't call it an effort

Music wise....yeah some discopolo is listenable to...but sounds better after a few drinks...

it's not that I am a fan of disco polo - I was very much against it - but somehow it doesn't hurt my ears anymore

Food / What's your favorite Polish beer? [870]

I encourage people to try Frater by the main Poznań brewery (Kompania?). It's an affordable weissbier.

I don't believe in Polish weissbier. I believe it to be sour ;) hehehe

Some just can't conceal their innermost agendas ;) ;)

man you are too much of a psychologist (psychiatrist??)
I believe I should back down from this forum :P
