History / Israeli wants to wipe Poland off the map! [198]

You can Israel watching self-destruct slowly but surely...now that they successfully turned off their once biggest ally in the region, Turkey, they now pressure their few allies in Europe, Germany and Poland, in the Brodsky-affair to go against their own laws.

I won't even mention the current Niebel-affair. Making sure to lose support here now too rapidly.
What stupid sods! Popcorn moments :)

News / Who are you voting for in the 2010 Poland's presidential elections and why? [82]

No its not, not with our political elite and deep political divide among the nation, just read the thread, Poles insulting each other over a political party they vote on rather then realise we're all Poles and on the same boat, Poland is everything but safe.

Well, that is that way everywhere Sok....in every country people insult and detest each other when they prefer different parties. :)
Just visit german blogs and boards...no different at all.
If the democracy works then a balance, a consent is found in the middle that works!

(The worst kind of abuse I ever read was during the voting last time in the US...between Democrats and Republicans...the pure hate!)

Germany has a lot of skilled, ambitious and more importantly patient politics.

Don't overestimate us!
Right now we have our share of clumsy idiots too...always had...:(

The problem here is that Germany plans an ultimately malevolent takeover,

Nah...that is pure paranoia.

Any try of that kind would be national and international suicide and destroy everything we build up for so long. As it is german business has the best possibilities and that's all we want and need. A holiday trip to the baltic coast not withstanding! ;)

Trust me Sok...Poland is safe! :)

Germany has a lot to gain from such moves

And here you err...Germany has absolutely ZERO to gain from such a move. To the contrary, we would lose everything!!!
It is in our best interest to keep our neighbours peaceful, stable and wealthy enough to buy our products...to make Germans happy.
Any malevolent action would destroy exactly that...it would be stupid suicide. We are smarter than that!

PS: That's why there is no real outcry here about plans to scratch the draft or strangle the Bundeswehr budget to death - we just don't see the need for it! (Besides being a good money making hightech industry branch)

Germany will try to recover its territories via economy

I'm not sure what you mean by that...Germany owns Greece or Spain already economically too (not counting the masses of tourists every year)...do you see them complain???

There is nothing to "recover" when the borders are open and everybody can go everwhere!

History / SCANDAL: Dyl Sowizdrzał was really Dyl Ulenspiegel (Till Eulenspiegel), and not Polish! [18]

Especially in our neck of the woods!

I must say I'm fascinated by it and the more I study and learn the more I like it...so many crossroads, so many facetts and connections.

I find our polish/german/czech history (especially the border regions) the most interesting of all!
(even when others talk all the time about the grande french, italian, roman, english history etc.)

History / What are the key features of the Polish Eagle? [56]

In heraldry, crown on the head of a heraldic beast is a symbol of sovereignty.

Hmmm...not quite: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crown_(heraldry)

A Crown is often an emblem of the monarchy, a monarch's government, or items endorsed by it; see The Crown. A specific type of crown (or coronet for lower ranks of peerage) is employed in heraldry under strict rules.
Indeed some monarchies never had a physical crown, just a heraldic representation, as in the constitutional kingdom of Belgium.

News / Hollywood's War with Poland. [150]

moves are used to influence general population.

You know, those who only want to be entertained and without deeper interest won't be influenced at all because any movie is only superficially for them. It's just a nice evening for them. Any message wandering in through one ear...through the empty brain...leaving through the other ear.

Then there are those whose interest will be awakened and who will look for more, other sources.
For them any movie will soon be placed into perspective, having learned much more about the true events.

And then there are those who already have some knowledge and who will know how to evaluate a movie.

So actually you are trying to influence and convince people of the first group who are not interested in the events to begin with. Are they the "general population"? I don't think so!

....well...my first thoughts have been how interesting it would look on screen if olive skinned, black eyed, black haired people (with points on their foreheads) play die hard Nazis! :):):)

History / Slavic vs Germanic thinking.... and the philosophical differences [251]

Just randomly pick a European country, then randomly pick another European country. The people of those two countries will always be genetically closer then either of those countries are to Africans, Asians, Semites/Arabs, etc.

I'm saying this all the time...

(Of course there are some differences between us Northerners and them Southerners!)

;)

Hmmm since us Europeans are like 14% of the world's population and clearly a minority of the world's population, maybe we should start sticking together more like minorities do?

I'm saying that too! *nods*

Europeans should stop bickering between each other...

History / Slavic vs Germanic thinking.... and the philosophical differences [251]

See up, there's enough real things but Poles love the drama, if its not a Holywood style thing its not worthy of citing.

True too! :)

In german myths we have our share of princesses in distress too...and then there comes the shining knight to her rescue (mostly that is).

History / Slavic vs Germanic thinking.... and the philosophical differences [251]

Apropos this Wanda legend (because it is only a legend it seems): en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Princess_Wanda

...
The story of princess Wanda was first described by medieval (12th and 13th centuries) Polish bishop and historian, Wincenty Kadłubek, and it is assumed by most historians that it was invented by him, possibly based on Slavic myths and legends[2][3]

These Poles, living in a world of fantasies and fairytales...tsk....as every polish princess would be grateful to be chosen by a real Teuton!

...
In Polish literature, the story of Wanda has served as inspiration of several works, often stressing the motives of Polish independence and victorious conflict with Germany.

Sure...why not invent something if one doesn't have the real thing! ;)
