History / The Untold Battle of Britain [205]

Soldiers are supposed to kill, so it's murder as that is their stated objective.

Really!
Do you call polish soldiers killing german soldiers murderers??? ;)

Never heard of a conscientious objector?

Soldiers have to obey, period! No government can risk an army of "consentious objectors". That is only for rosy times and goody-two-shoes.
(And that's why the Nuremberg: "obeying orders - no excuse" - judgement is laughed at by all militaries in the whole world).

Get real!

Life / Why are the Italians and Polski so much alike? [90]

Corruption has its advantages too.

No it hasn't!
A corrupt society is a dysfuntional society.
Northern Europe countries are stable and wealthy because they are LESS corrupt than others.

Fight against corruption is one of the first most important steps to get back to a functioning society/economy.
But it's hard if corruption has seeped already into the bones and DNA of whole peoples (as in Greece and other southern countries)...

Life / Why are the Italians and Polski so much alike? [90]

Let's be honest, Poles are more hospitable than the cold, heartless Teutonic German or the snobbish, morally corrupt Anglo. I'm gonna use stereotypes here but I believe Poles and Italians are more festive and are willing to share more with a stranger

Do you believe the running stereotypes (idiot lazy brutes) about the Poles as well? Do you think them true?

Only the baddies kill and murder people, the goodies have "collateral damage" for a good cause...

Genealogy / Najgebauer help please [24]

"Neigebauer" is just a phonetic spelling of Neugebauer...more like a dialect than another meaning altogether.

PS: "Neugebauer" means a new farmer, not necessarily a settler in Poland(as Poles wouldn't had called him with the german name "Neubauer" I think) or a rich farmer....just a farmer who is either new at farming at all or a new farmer in the area.

jursitzky.net/Familienname_Neugebauer.htm

Interesting: In old Middle German a new farmer is called "Gbur", the polish word is "Gburek".

First forms had been:

1381 Hannus Gebouwer in Liegnitz,

1417/1418 Gebuer nickel in Görlitz

1509 Valten Gebawr gerber in Görlitz

Off-Topic / PF - The Omnibus Edition [1502]

Why do you think the English call Berlin "Börlin" or Nürnberg "Nuremberg"? It happens everywhere all the time...

History / Give back Lwow to Poland and Kaliningrad to Germany - is it possible? [198]

And kaliningrad is 99% russian today so that means that it's a russian city with no historical connections to Germany right?

Past is past and present is present...and Kant is long dead, he doesn't care anymore!

Such a useless discussion...Should we ethnical cleanse Kaliningrad? Could we ever rebuild it to former glory? No and no...so what!

History / Give back Lwow to Poland and Kaliningrad to Germany - is it possible? [198]

Yah well in that case Gdansk should be considered german also right?

Yeah well, Danzig was to 95 percent German at the last census before the war...you can't get much more Germany than that.

And disputing Danzig or Breslau history won't change the Lwow realities of today.

History / Give back Lwow to Poland and Kaliningrad to Germany - is it possible? [198]

Similar doesn't means the same

But it is...you are as able to get your hands back on Lwow as Germany can do with Breslau.
It's the same!

Better concentrate on Ukraine getting into the EU and therefore opening up the Ukraine/Lwow for Poles and renovating/rebuilding it with EU-support.

Everything else might be entertaining thought games for some but absolutely unrealistic!

History / Give back Lwow to Poland and Kaliningrad to Germany - is it possible? [198]

Right or no rights, we've got a good peace in Europe and a good peace in Poland, there's no point in destroying it, not even for Lwów.

That's the same opinion 99,9 percent of the Germans have regarding the former eastern territories.
We have a good thing going here, no need to destroy everything because one thing should be clear...there will be no peaceful "rearranging" of geographical, political facts.

So better don't open that special pandora box.

History / Give back Lwow to Poland and Kaliningrad to Germany - is it possible? [198]

What im trying to say is that, the russians and the people under their influence lives in poverty because of the lifestyle they been having for the last 1000 years.

There was no freedom for the common people the last 1000 years anywhere...it started kind of with the US (minus the slaves), and then somehow democracy developed...with breaks...in some countries...but that it's about it.

The Russians are late comer and winning WWII didn't help to make a clean cut with old structures and thinking (like in Germany)...but not 1000 years late...maybe 70 years or so..

(Don't scream at me...that was world history in one sentence and a veeeeery broad generalization)

History / Give back Lwow to Poland and Kaliningrad to Germany - is it possible? [198]

They do have some historical value!!!

Kaliningrad hasn't any anymore whatsoever...Stalin made sure of that as he let the old Königsberg raze to the ground.
It's a russian town today...strange and with foreign people...nothing german about it anymore.

(Even if they try to woo german tourists lately with renovating prussian heritage buildings)

So no from Germany, Russia can keep it!

USA, Canada / polish people in usa that wanted germany to win [34]

Fatherland. It's based on the book with the same name.

Rutger Hauer makes a damn fine Nazi! :)

....I od however, hear a lot of people say that they wish the war with Germany had never happened..

I as a German get to hear that quite often too...but it's more about moaning in the same sentence about to many muslim/third world immigration to Europe/USA...Europe still being the world #1, GB still having it's empire and so on.

I then try to tell them that while it's true but then it wouldn't had been Hitler...he just couldn't help himself. He busted it fair and square! :/

News / Minsk threatens to take gas destined for Poland and EU [16]

Better Belarus would take that into account in the first place and pay up what they owe!

And why didn't they accept the russian offer to pay in naturalia (whatever that means) if they don't have the money but declare that offer as "humiliation"?

News / Minsk threatens to take gas destined for Poland and EU [16]

Belarus are small fry. He thinks he is high and mighty being a dictator

Why are you assuming Russia is right on this one? They owe Belarus money.

Spiegel writes that Belarus is in dept to Russia already about 192 Billion Dollar.
At first Belarus accepted the dept and asked for two weeks to get the money.
Russia offered Belarus to pay in naturalia but Belarus declined. Again Minsk threatens
with cutting the pipes to western Europe. Lukashenko saying "Russias demands are humiliating
the belarussian people"!

spiegel.de/wirtschaft/unternehmen/0,1518,702125,00.html

Now Russia says western Europe will get their stuff through the Ukraine...it's strictly between
Russia and Belarus.

My opinon: Someone is trying to play the victim card to not having to pay up...and it's not Russia.
