Associates?

FYI PiS is running with Gowin and Ziobro both under separate party logos. Here is yet another survey:
ZP (PiS & allies) 40%
PO 24%
ZL (e-commies & libertine scum) 9%
KORWIN 7%
Kukiz and PSL 6% each

As election day approaches all the PO's anti-PiS smear tactics and Kopcz running in circles like a chicken with its head cut off are cutting little ice with voters. PiS support is inching it way up. The glorious 4th Republic is looming!

Good news! The latest survey gives PiS & associates a chance to go it alone:
ZP (United Right -- hip, hip, hurray!) 39% (239 seats)
PO 30
ZL (ex-commies & assorted scum) 7.9 (and out of the running!)
PSL & KORWIN each 5.5

Big Government party

Preferable is a Good Government Party -- one that gets rid of the POO bridge table of mafia oligarchs, former special service types, compliant media and corrupt officials. That's what RP IV was all about.

sleaze and corruption around PiS

Only to horse-blinkered POO fanatics oblvious to POO's 500 scams, lies and unkept promises!

leading in the polls

So leading in the polls is a flaw and fault? Did you say the same when POO were in teh lead?

So I assume you will start with the traitorous Michniks. No assumptions, speculations or innuendos needed -- all the evidence is out in the open.

as questionable as they come

Be my guest. Produce some hard evidence and then the matter can be disucssed. So far it's all very stalinesque: guilt by rumour, hearsay, insinuation and innuendo. One can always say about anyone that he "must have", "should have", "might have", "could have", etc., but that is not evidence but mere speculation. Maybe you'll accuse Rajmund of being a Nazi because he studied at a German school during the Hitler occupation? But totalitarian dictatroshup also need specilaists.

The communists brought to rule Poland on Soviet bayonets were mostly ignorant drunks -- assorted thugs, lumpenproles and peasants. The new system needed skilled technicians and Rajmund was one such an individual. As a former AK member, he was under UB surveillance after the war and after 1956 by the SB, but nevertheless got his degrees and lectured (a professor doesn't choose his audience). But he never joined the communist party and was among the first to join Solidarity.

One of the tabloids reported he had had an affair with his assistant, but again just rumour and no evidence.
By contrast Michnik father was a Stalin goon, his mother a Sovietiser of Polish school chidlren and his brotehr a desk-top murderer now a fugitive from justice hiding out in Sweden. Those are documented facts, not idle hearsay!

Food / Supermarket or small corner shop for grocery shopping in Poland? [23]

Did you look in Biedronka

The thing is that you don't know what you have paid for until you take it home and try to cook it. So far we have struck out. One time we even got fillet steak that was as tender as shoe leather and you had to chew, and chew and chew.... The most usable beef in Poland is mince (for burgers) or shank which has had the hell boiled out of it. Run it through a mincer and you've got great meat-filled pierogi. The leftover beef stock makes a nice base for broth, bouillon and different souips.

Yes, the Mrs did once pick up some nice New Zealand lamb chops at LeClerc I believe, but they weren't cheap.

Food / Coffee in Poland: cheap and undrinkable / expensive and good [89]

Merged: Le Grand - surpuisingly good Arabica for 6.75 zł

I rarely visit Biedronka but recently I picekd up a packet of Le Grand brand coffee (100% Arabica) for 6.75 a quarter-kilo. It was surprisingly good tasting for that price. My culinary guru has long been the late James Beard who taught that good food and drink need not be expensive and advised: "Always buy the cheapest wine YOU FIND ACCEPTABLE!" That anti-snobbery approach is right up my alley. Same goes for coffee, beer or most anything else. The frugal gioruzemt is a wise shopper who never overpays becuase something is trendy or has snob appeal.

In teh beer department, both Donner Premium (4% ABV @ 1.69 zł) and VIP (4.8% ABV @1.49) are quite decent brews for the price. But there's something called Sir Roger (in a red can) for 1.79 zł that's a real rot-gut swill.

learned on their daddy's knee

Any proof of that oft-repeated (by you), albeit groundless insinuation? When you disgaree with someone you make up the kinds of things you think will villify that person. That too makes you one of PF's front-running liars!

better than America

Dunno that much about the prodcution end of it but I reckon maximum yield at minimum expense rules the day. So you probably get meat containing traces of hormones and antibiotics from animals possibly fed with GMO fodder and grazing in pesticide-rich pastures. (GMO is still banned in Poland -- I was speaking in general terms.)

However the beef in America and the British Isles is defintiely superior to Poland's. Often what you get is the beef from an old milk cow going under the knife after she stops giving milk. Tough as shoe leather. One can buy premium-quality Argentine beef in Poland but the prices are sky-high. In general Poles are a nation of pork-eater, so beef is a definite also-ran.

What do self-proclaimed non-Stalinists like yourself propose to do about corruption, informal hand-washes-hand arrangements (układy), backroom scams and other such issues?

this mentality -

Not every party is willing to sweep the rubbish under the carpet or stick its head in the sand. PiS want to expose all the filth created by their predeceesors and sweep it away, grab the bull by the horns and finally complete the sanitation of the Polish public scene it began in 2005 before being so rudely interrupted. Your mind seems to idolise and prioritise those skilled at cover-ups and concealing their tracks.

PO had very little to do with it

The PO hate industry had its roots in the 2005 election campaign. In fact it was Komorowski who in the summer of 2005 launched the first major assault on PiS, even though they were to be the PO's coaliton partner. Up till then the two parties had slightly different approaches to various issues but minus any excessive vitriol. Over the years that followed it only got worse.

briefly in office b

This time round PiS may well rule the country for the next 20 years. There is a huge load of post-SLD and post-PO rubbish to get rid of.

joke

Only demonstrates the efficacy of the POO hate industry. Stalin's and Hitler's stooges were also good at black PR. Clever propaganda convinced much of the public that everyone else was worse than what they stood for. POO are continuing that "fine" tradition.

give PiS a chance

Anybody is better than PO with the exception of the ex-commie leftists.
Incidentally, Kopacz's daugther said she would emigrate if PiS won. Maybe Harry will second that motion and give PF a new lease of life!

as very arrogant

To re-rail things back onto election tracks, PO is now playing humble and modest and suppressing their inborn arrogance because elections are looming. But they are still trying to arrogantly intimidate the electorate with the PiS bugbear. It's like the boy who cried wolf. It worked for a time until people saw through the ruse. The PiS scare doesn't work anymore but PO spin-doctors apparently think it does.

PiS bugbear

PiS has dislodged PO from the authorities of Warsaw's city-centre council after three of the councillors abandoned the Tusk-Kopacz clique. This may well be the wave of the future, as more and more local authorities see the folly and uselessness of the PO mob.

If ZL make it

You mean to say POO are not only crooks and scammers but they'd actually stoop so low as to link up with the post-commies, many of whose members had been Soviet stooges wtih blood on their hands? Everyone knew POO were as crooked and greedy as they come, but outright traitors hobnobbing with the martial-law supporters Miller and Czarzasty?!

PO

The POO grouping are now questioning and disagreeing with the findings of the independent prosecutor's office which did not find PiS guilty of the tape scandal. Rather than blaming Tusk and Kopacz for creating a government, seven of whose ministers had to be got rid of for their irresponsible and internationally harmful remarks (like PO-era Poland giving the US a bj), POO are wondering whether Falenty and 2 waiters orgnaised the eavesdropping or whether they had accomplices.

POO always sign the praises of free and indepedndent courts and prosecutors as long as they rule and operate in their favour.

Kaczyński and Macierewicz

Things move along quickly these days, and over the next two weeks the media will be churning out new sensations, slip-ups and gaffes that will dislodge previous ones from public memory.

Kukiz has annoucned he doesn't plan to join in a coaliton with PiS but will vote for a PiS-led governemtn if his vote were needed for one to emerge.

PiS

My gut feeling is that teh election will go soemthing along these lines:

PiS 43. PO 22, Kukiz 8 and PSL 7. PiS will go it alone and create ad hoc coalitons in individual votes as needed.

Aside from the stink surrounding Komorowski's alleged theft of state-owned oeuvres d'art, he and Wałęsa are now being accused of staining the honour of the presidential office by advertising a currency-exchange outfit cinkciarz.pl

I was turned off even by Małysz plastered from head to toe with high-revenue commercial logos, each providing a hefty kickback. What about you?

8 more years of POO? Disgusting?! They've stolen and embezzled their fill - now it's time for honourable men to come to the helm.
