History / 60th anniversary of the Poznan uprising! [60]

well you dont need to 'apply' to be a citizen of a country where your parents were born do you

Depends on the country (for Poland it isn't automatic), however that wouldn't apply to him anyway.

So sad to hear someone living here without ever holding citizenship or contributing positively telling others to 'go home'. It's as I say, indicative of the lack of logic within the tendency who support PiS.

hospitality

Nope, always here by right. Now Po, remember that Poland is extending you our hospitality - why haven't you ever applied for citizenship? Or do you really want to answer that question....

And the debacle over PiS attempted interference in the Poznan 1956 commemorations is rather symptomatic of their whole vindictive attitude and contempt for the Polish state. Basically if they can't turn any public event into a celebration of their own ideology of martyrdom (they even pretend a plane crash was suspicious rather than an accident) they thou a strop.

The more publicity about that the better, since it does show their true colours.

History / 60th anniversary of the Poznan uprising! [60]

One thing that the disgraceful behaviour of PiS concerning the Poznan 1956 commemoration has done is to underline how they want to hijack events to be Smolensk commemorations to reinforce their sense of eternal martyrdom as well as to show the public how petulant, aggressive and vindictive they are.

Hardly watergate or bankstergate is it.

Well, he's just a back-bencher and I don't see any others being ferried around by taxpayer-funded helicopters while constantly malignly accusing others (invariably people he has a political grudge against, like the Mayor of Warsaw) of wrongdoing...

Looks that way, doesn't it.

And as for all the xenophobic 'go home' stuff, it's worth remembering which of us is a citizen and which of us isn't...

The same sort of political and cultural illiteracy that led to Macierewicz behaving so appallingly at the Poznan 56 commemorations. He really did want to turn it into a Smolensk stunt and threw a strop when he was told how inappropriate that would have been.

Although given that he is the same man who appointed the convicted and self-confessed criminal who heads the anticorruption agency, it is hard to see that agency investigating him

That's basically how they do it. Some of them really do believe they have a divine right to break rules.

Porozumienie Centrum

Part of the undemocratic Kaczynski gang, furious that the majority wouldn't allow Poland to become an authoritarian theocracy.

We see this now in the appalling behaviour of Macierewicz etc over the Poznan 1956 commemoration.

an invited guest speaker

An invited speaker who wouldn't appear unless he could turn it into a Smolensk accident commemoration, an entirely unrelated event.

But beloved by the Polish nation, the real salt-of-the-earth, patritotic, Catholic Poles, and they are the ones who count

Cobblers. JK may want to divide the nation, however he was frustrated in his aims last time and will be similarly frustrated this time.

He is one #!%&$X=?%!

He is the elected Mayor of that city and responsible for the commemorations of the 1956 events. Perhaps you hate democracy? Perhaps you just hate Poland...

jduge

Only the courts can judge, assuming JK and his gang haven't abolished them all in favour of verdicts from clergy.

Oh, and us Polish citizens have a say too. Have you ever thought of becoming a Polish citizen.

JK? So toxic that as party leader he couldn't even put his name on a ballot paper! The same Jk who tried to hijack the 60th anniversary commemorations and make them about the Smolensk accident.

If his case was strong he could refuse the pardon and clear his name, but that's a lot of work and PiS are all about the shortcuts

Basically it's another piece of PiS. Just corruption and subverting laws they don't agree with.

those shining beacons of post-PRL scamsterism, ministerial kids, occupational dynasties and other benificiaries of the commie-KORite cabal that are now up a creek without a paddl

Your fantasy.

The way a back-bench MP was allowed to commandeer state-owned property and use it for his purely personal purposes is an example of corruption an anti-corruption agency should be fighting

Exactly. As his repellant (albeit less extreme) brother said, "now it's our f*cking turn to be corrupt".

Face facts, Warsaw City Hall is being attacked by an ' anti-corruption' agency which is led by a convicted and self-confessed criminal

Sheer PiS vindictiveness. As obvious as Szydlo's hair dye,

Its boiling over

No it isn't. Far from it. Voting idiotically for 'Brexit' however isn't the same as bringing in socialism.

You seem to think the EU holds the trump card. It doesn't

Well actually...

Spot on. Pure vindictiveness by the Ciemnogrod squad.

In one of the sites where they want to build a golden statue, there's actually an adjacent discreet monument to a great General and before the city decided that the whole of Krakowskie Przedmiescie was a completed work, there were proposals for a larger monument to him. The plans were rejected, however PiS very much believe in one rule for themselves and one rule for everyone else.

We can expect even more vindictive use of anti-corruption regulations over the next few months; in fact they've just raided a number of organisations that they haven't been able to attack by other means.

Alternatively perhaps they could investigate the chain of events that saw a back-bench MP being allowed to commandeer a police helicopter for a personal flight the entire width of the country at no charge at all?

Indeed. Unfortunately we'll be hearing more and more Smolenskist conspiracy theories.

Did you know that JK wanted not one but two giant statues of his twin (probably golden ones) on Krakowskie Przedmiescie despite knowing that no more changes are allowed. Much of this current sniping at City Hall is about that.

Remember the year he tried to ban the pride parade?

And plenty more outrages, respectable businesses destroyed and above all, stopping brothels having a discreet sign in the window, thereby unleashing a flood of obscene leaflets tucked under windscreen wipers and left to blow along the pavements.

Travel / Gdansk - where to go and what's cool to see? [25]

Why not get the train down to Malbork? It's an impressive castle (best seen from the outside, and the guided tours are a drag on a hot day) but still worth a trip. Or cross over to Kaliningrad if you can get a visa.

As for sailboats, in Gdansk itself you'll need an existing certificate if you want to navigate it yourself. It contains major shipping lanes in a very small area and is therefore very controlled.

refugees who need a lot of coddling.

Well, refugees do tend to need help. If they didn't, they wouldn't be refugees now, would they...

the globalist pendulum has swung about as far as the european public is comfortable with.

Or further than Mrs Grundy would like.

Anyway, there's a thread for you to discuss the humanitarian crisis in. Here, all that's important is that free movement of citizens is a non-negotiable part of modern Europe.

what else is there to see?

The Amber Museum in Gdansk is worth a look, as is Westerplatte.

What is there to see on the Hel Peninsula?

Trees and beaches, mostly.

What is the best place to meet girls?

Plenty of nightclubs there, a big one in Sopot.

But is it a flood?most Ukrainians come to Poland to work. I now here more Russian and Ukrainian on the street than I used to but it's still pretty small.

Are you in Warsaw? There are a lot more than you think here.

most Ukrainians come to Poland to work

Remember there's less of a language barrier and an established community already.

breitbart

Oh dear...

why brexit, why right wing and populists are winning everywhere.

All three are stoppable.

Yes, however sadly an individual is only interested in moaning about

judaeo

as usual. And attacking excellent people like

Soros, BiedroĊ„ or Michnik

And Hanna Gronkiewicz-Waltz, although right-wing, is the best Mayor our city has had. Certainly not corrupt.

But hey, they passed him by (for reasons best not mentioned here) when it came to jobs etc.

the free movement into Europe

What "free movement:? Do you mean the humanitarian crisis? That same crisis that several member states including Poland are barely involved with? Or the flood of refugees from the fighting in Ukraine?

your plan

World domination, of course...

First the EU, next the world.

Seriously, whether Brexit went ahead or whether it doesn't, free movement of people within Europe will be non-negotiable. This has been made clear by the Union. Either the four freedoms apply or none of them do.
