Polish voters' choice

As predicted, champagne toasts are being raised to the victors across the length and breadth of Poland. PiS is the first party siince the demise of PRL in 1989 that can rule independently. Official results may alter the composition of the Sejm. Only PiS, PO and Kukiz are in for sure. Considering a 2% margin of error, PSL may end up outside on the street, but the post-commies may make it in if they achieve the 8% level. Korwin and even Razem may make it in when official results are announced. PF-ers who had had a field-day badmouthing the Kaczyńskis and PiS are free to sign up with Kopacz's daughter to leave for greener pastures abroad. Szerokiej drogi!

Life / "Survivor's report" from a children's mass in Poland [62]

forcing your opinions

Yeah sure. I've got my own goon squad which I send out to enforce my views. Better watch out, they may be lurking in the shadows outside your window. Anyone who doesn't comply gets 40 lashes with a wet noodle.

Seriosuly, expressing an opinion isn't forcing it on anyone, it is exercising the right iof free speech. If you can lose your job, get demtoed or be otherwise harassed for opposing same-sex marriage, that is threat, blackmail and force.

Please keep on topic

vile opinions

No, Catholics are not paragons of virtue, but the scene I described was heart-warming to me at least. To you taking kids to church to you may be vile. So be it. Be happy you live in a free country where you are free to express any view you like. When the PC dictatorship take over, that may no longer be the case.

Thanks for reminding me. It sounded a bit familiar. I reckon the UN buttinskis perenially pull this rabbit out of the a hat when they need some publicity.

Many dzienks! Perhaps "outside interference" or "external intervention" would have indeed more accurately described the situation.

News / UN threatens ''Poland's windows of life" [24]

Merged: Life is more important than identity? Unwanted, newly born infants in Poland.

The "window of life" found in many Polish citiers has saved the lives of newly born infants which would have otherwise been snuffed out. Thr "window" is a warm and comfy glassed-in cubicle built into the side of a convent, and a mother not willing or able to raise her infant can leave it there anonymously and go her merry way, unseen and unquestioned. The child is sent to hospital and cen be put up for adoption without delay.

Now the PC/libertine-dominated por-abortionist UN through its Children's Rights Committee has interfered and wants Poland to do away with the "windows". Why? Because it claims every child has a right to know its identity. Opponents of the foreign intervention agree that children should be able to know who their parentns were, but point out that in extreme cases life takes precendet over identity. The newborns dumped in trash heaps or left to suffocate in plastic bags will also never get to know their identity. It was to limit such infanticidal practices that the window of life was conceived.

Life / "Survivor's report" from a children's mass in Poland [62]

The "survivor" thing is to be taken cum grano salis. No, I was not trambled by hundreds of screaming brats. But I did attend a children's mass by accident (at 10.30 AM) at the Dominican church in New Town (opposite "U Samsona" restaurant in Freta). All parishes have a children's mass on Sunday, but this one was almost exclusively attended by kids and their paretns -- wall-to-wall congregation peppered with numerous prams and strollers.

Some of the few-month-to-a-year-old generation slept through the whole thing in their prams. The 1.5 to 3 years olds were the liveliest, noisiest and most fidgety. But many of their elder siblings (5 and up) already knew how to behave. Yes, the crying and squealing was a bit distracting and it was hard to follow the sermon over the noise. but on balance it was an edifying sight to see so many young, well-groomed and wholesome-looking married couples (wedding bands told the story) exposing their progeny to their faith from an early age. Of course, we all know there are unchurched kids who spend Sunday mornings watching cartoon shows on the telly whilst their parents nurse their hangovers. There's no law against that, after all.

leader Nowacka

If one can rise above one's poltical preferences and impaartially assess things, I believe the ex-commies have struck a goldmine wtih Nowacka. Their Ogórek episode was a total flop but Nowacka is dynamic, charismatic and fairly convincing and that's bad because ZL mayk actually make it into the Sejm.

poltical preferences

Exit polls are soon due to be annoucned. Here is my list of likely options.
1. Only PiS and PO in the Sejm with PiS having a sufficient advantage to rule independently.
2. PiS, PO and Kukiz -- PiS is still able to rule independently without Kukiz but his votes may create a constitute a constitutional majroity. (But Kukiz being unpredictable may turn out to be a liability.)

3. PiS, PO, Kukiz and PSL -- PO have too few seats to form a coalition with PSL who do not want to be out of the Sejm for the first time since the 1950s (then as ZSL) and join in a coaltion with PiS and Kukiz.

4. PiS, PO, ZL and Kukiz get in but PO have too few votes to form a coaltion with the leftists. PiS and Kukiz join in a barely majority coalition.

5. PiS, PO, ZL, Kukiz and Petru are in -- PO with ZL and Petru could form a majority coalition but Petru refuses to join one in which the ZL is present. A weak PiS-Kukiz coalition emerges, PO and Petru join, and ZL are on their own.

6. PiS, PO, ZL, PSL, Kukiz, Petru and Korwin are in -- Petru agrees to join a coalition includign ZL and a cordon of everybody (except Kukiz and Korwin) against PiS is formed. Cabinet forming is tough and drawn out and 4 years of large-scale squabbling ensues.

**BUT LIFE BEING WHAT IT IS MAY WELL DEAL A COMPLETELY DIFFERENT HAND OF CARDS! SOON WE'LL KNOW!

Petru

Although Petru is a hard-nosed Balcerovite (capitalist), he's still better than the lefty utopianists trying to stand everything on its head, opposing time-honoured traditions that have withstood the trial of generations, destroying religion and even going against nature. Those brandishing leftist banners have left history's greatest carnage in their wake -- a volume of blood and corpses unmatched by Hitler, Mussolini, Franco, Salazar and all of South America's dictators combined. When will they ever learn?!

In just over 28 hours Poland will be raising champagne toasts to the winners. My prediction: PiS 47%, PO 22%, Kukiz 10%, PSL 5%. (ZL 7.87% didn't cut the ice!)

Palikot

If you define charisma as cheap publicity-seeking and sensation-mongering at all costs, then Palikot definitely has charisma. He once came to a TV discussion show brandishing a latex penis and pistol, guzzled vodka from tiny bottles outside the presidential palace to ridicule the President of Poland and ostentatiosuly nailed his act of apostasy to the door of a £ódź church (making sure to alert TV crews well in advance).

Heritage of genocide

Yes, the genocide of the Amerindian population and the importation of African slaves are definitely stains on America's reputation, But what country has no such faults and skeletons in their cupboard?. Perhaps what happened starting in the early 20th century has made amends for those early crimes.

USA itself is real terrorist organization

Crow, you are so hopelessly Serbocentric that you know next to nothing about general history. If it wasn't for the USA there would be no Serbia and probably no Poland today. Uncle Sam had to bail out the clueless squabbling Europeans who embroield thermselves in two world wars. Had the US stayed out of it, as many Americans advocated, the Kaiser and then Hitler would have turned Europe into the Untied States od Germany. After The Great War Woodrow Wilson helped create independent European states and Herbert Hoover headed up a relief campaign for war-torn Europe. Without Lend-Lease Hitlerl would have won the war. After WW2 the Marshal Plan helped rebuild the Old Continent. During the decades of communist enslavement the US kept the torch of freedom burning thanks to Voice of America and Radio Free Europe as well as bearing the financial brunt of the NATO alliance. The US supported the Solidarity movement morally and with substantive albeit clandestine aid. So unless you would prefer to speak German at present rather than your Serbian lingo, think twice before badmouthing the Land of the Free and Home of the Brave -- the one country that has consistently defended freedom and democracy world-wide.

Merged: The Polish nanny state?

ZL, PiS, PO, PSL and presumably Razem advocate various forms of the nanny state with their social-welfare programmes and interference in the lives of private citizens, whilst Korwin and Petru favour a more liberal eocnomic approach. Korwin takes it to the extreme opposing even income taxes, state healthcare and car seat-belt requirements.

Do you believe the nanny or non-nanny approach better fits the mentality of a given nation?
Which in your view would be best for Poland?

Razem was offering coffee

Petru was shown on TV offering white and black coffee and biscuits to passers-by. Reminds me of a 1970s world's fair or other exhibition in Paris when Poland was under Gierek. In line with Gierek's "propaganda of success" (Poland was touted as the world's 10th largest power!), Polish television news reported that the largest crowds of fairgoers were milling about the Polish pavilion. What the news reader did not mention was that it was the only pavilion offering free nips of ice-cold Wyborowa and hors d'oeuvres.

PiS 40,5

At PiS' last re-election convention party chief Kaczyński said:
"My party is coming to power not for money. PiS reject ambionist motives and revanchism." Re the PO's tape scandal he said: "There can be no acquiesence to the influence of lobbies or corporations. We shall enforce the law but there can be no thought of revenge. That must be our principle. That is difficult but PiS is up to the challenge. We should already now be thinking about what will be after out victory. That must be a time of work for the ruling authorities, Poland may be having fun but the authorities must perform. We must appoint people to posts on the basis our their capabilties."

Poland suffer

Poland will never suffer under the Stars and Stripes of the USA. Poland's NATO membership and special security relationship with Ameirca are the best things that ever happened to Poland.

And all the badmouthing and villification of NATO cannot change that. You should resent the fact that Serbia's leadership engaged in genocidal atrocities that forced NATO to come to the aid of the hapless victims. Too bad all the Serbian warmongers responsible for those crimes have not been brought to justice and duly punished!

News / Poland directly threatened by ISIS. Do Islamists planning terrorist attacks in Poland? [390]

Media organisations in Mazuria and Podalsie, where US-Polish manoeuvres are being held, have been receiving threats from islamist sources, polskatimes reports. One such threat reads.

"Allah Akbar! Godis Great! Pray, Black Friday in Orysz is at hand. The dirty American and Polish dogs will burn up in the Sacred Fire. Death to American and Polish soldiers. Victory to the State of Islam!"

Polish security circles are taking the threat very seriously and heightening their vigilance.

Módlcie się, Czarny Piątek w Orzyszu nadchodzi. Brudne psy amerykańskie i polskie spłoną w Świętym Ogniu. Śmierć amerykańskim i polskim żołnierzom. Zwycięstwo Państwu Islamskiemu" - mailami tej treści zasypywane są podlaskie i mazurskie media.

mass delusion

Mass delusion would be not thinking that PO are a lot of crooks and scammers to mention only AmberGold, gambling affair, motorway muck-up and most recently reneging on January 2015 agreement with miners. They're in Warsaw today protesting and toting a coffin with tapes, baby ocpotpi and vintage wines therein. (That's what the PO brass feasted on at Sowa & Przyjaciele while spouting expletives about others.)

opposition to the established church

GW reported Kaczyński on TV TRWAM:

"In Poland there is no system of values that could realistically compete in the social dimension with that voiced by the Church. If someone is combating that system, regardless of whether they are believers or non-believers, they are advocating nihilism. In Poland there is a chocie -- either we uphold that system of values and have moral order in the state or we sink into nihilism."

That is difficult to argue with. Who rejects the Church's value system? The drug dealers, abortionists, hedonists, crooked politicians, lawyers, bankers and corporate executives, pornographers, shoplifters, homo-promoters, car thieves, petty and organised crime, escort agency owners and other such "savoury" types.

"X took his own life by shooting himself three times in the back of the head. The post mortem showed that the first shot was fatal."
