I learned all about those international conventions designed to increase openness and clear decision making. The lack of democracy these days speaks volumes. Bilderberg and Von Rompuy are the icing on the cake there. Too many people with too much to hide.

Precisely! It's part of the 'we know you and we'll get you' culture that's regrettably becoming more pervasive. The powers that be would do well to remember that they created enemies and not the people. In an age of openness and transparency, they cannot exempt themselves. Yeah, my dad interviewed sb with an HNC in shampooing from Aberdeen College. OK, shampooing a dog is a bit different but it's sth most people do every day or every other day. Tragic!

There is much redundant crap tbh. There should be a far greater element of tailoring a course to the needs of industry but many are behind in that regard.

Simply put, you need to target your future workplace and gear yourself up towards working there as best you can. Many elements of courses will not help you in that sense.

Yeah, I'd say so. You can do as well as you want at uni in terms of passing exams and essays but when that course ends.....

Better than nothing, I guess. Still, it does seem like a slugfest in Poland in order to get work. I'm glad that I studied a generic/vocational course, than an academic one. I was also helped by some professional services but they couldn't mask the reality that Scotland is a small country with far too many graduates and immigrants. My reality was to travel :)

Poland does seem like a 'fend for yourself' culture at times.

Good point, Darren. My mother-in-law made the same point when I was speaking to her. Medvedev has to accept that Poles bear grudges and with good reason in many cases. He bears no direct responsibility but his words will go a long way to calming minds.

Is there sth like the milk round at Polish unis? There was where I studied. I wanted to do further study but I was pursued by some headhunters that come to the uni in order to assess your competence for their company. I decided to do further study. The milk round simply means that company reps come to further education institutions, looking to hire fresh blood as potential graduates. There are many graduate fairs too :)

The point is that it is really hard to compare when you haven't experienced both. Also, your experience is always going to be far too limited to make any kind of meaningful comparison.

That's why I have nothing to say other than that I hope the guys that negotiated Bologna did their homework.

For the record, quite a few Africans speak Polish very well. I've watched videos of them when interviewed as foreigners and they excel. The West has access to all the technology in the world to learn but yet some lag behind.

I disagree, Zeti. I think it is one of the best Polish films made in terms of how Poles get irritated and respond to the harsh reality of life for them. For example, he talks about extensive schooling and being put through a system for years, only for him to get his agonisingly low 777PLN. He shows the frustration of a teacher in getting points across to those students that are below par. His son especially. It's amazing how the basics are bypassed here. A/an/the, for example. He touches on all major frustrations and also shows the reality that a Polish mother can be comforting when all around you gets your goat.

Aha, I detected a hint of sarcasm in your post and felt that you might have intended to say that. Taxpayers have had enough of reading about bailouts, rising inflation and cuts on public services. You want to know the problem? The politicians say these things as a matter of stats and they don't feel what they are saying at all. They use them as slogans as opposed to practicalities that need more then rhetoric.

I wish such people would section themselves off and stand in line to be shot. They are nothing but troublemakers that need to drive our planet forwards and not backwards through business concerns.

I want citizens to be able to walk the streets without sinking into a puddle as I saw today. That money you referred to is for the majority and not for scaremongering based on people that always shake hands anyway. Russia has its hands full with Chechnya, or will anyway. WikiLeaks was a fraud from the outset designed by a bored prick to stir up unnecessary conflict. What, Poland has to fear Kalingrad? They'd be creamed were they to attack Poland.

Of course it is, Marek. Leaks slip out but this stuff didn't. You can't predict a leak like that. I think Assange should go on to form PantieLeaks next as he'll be doing some of that when he is up for trial.

Quite a few Serbian women 'looked like' dominant types when I was there but that says little as to the truth. The harshness of some Polish women may make them come across as being dominant but quite a few have a soft inner core.
