Genealogy / Polish person's average height? [210]

Southern? Where did you get your info from?

In wikipedia there is a topic about heights in Europe. However for Poland there appear no data.Dutch recent measurements regard young ages, not the whole population while other measurements have taken place among a limited number of people.

For USA I am sure that the average height for women is 163 cm and for men 176 cm because there are tables for that.
Dinaric Serbs are supposed to be the tallest people in Europe and there is no reason to doubt that.
From my observations Czechs are taller than Germans(except nordic Germans in Hamburg or generally above Koblenz). The average height however of Czechs is bigger than that of Germans and Slovaks are very close to Czechs.

The Poles are definitely shorter than the Czechs but I did not see any substantial difference from Germans.Maybe they are a little shorter(1 cm),the same or a little taller depending on region.(in Poznan they look taller than in Wroclaw for example).

In my opinion the best way to estimate heights are the personals where all heights are mentioned. So you just take some thousands of people and find the average height.

For example if you go to czech personals you will find out that 40% of women are above 170 cm tall,so you can estimate that this is the average height.

If you go to serbian personals you will be surprised how tall the people are.Women 185 cm tall are usual there.
In german personals the heights are definitely lower than in czech personals.
Russian women are for example 20% only above 170 cm.The same with belarus women. So the average is lower. It is about 165 cm.
Ukrainian women are 35% above 170 cm.So they are taller than russian and belarus and close to polish.

Anyway these are just observations.

Genealogy / Polish person's average height? [210]

Poles are taller than Russians,Belarussians,Ukrainians, shorter than Czechs,Slovaks and slightly taller than Germans from my observations.
The tallest nations in Europe are
1.The Dinaric Serbs(185 cm on average)
2.The Dutch(185 cm in young men,172 cm in young women)
3.The Swedish,Serbs and Czechs at the same height(183 cm for men,170 cm for women)
4.The Slovaks
5.The Poles(maybe 181-182 cm for men,167 cm for women).

History / "Poland's Concentration Camp" ?? [570]

I thought they were in the US

Tell sth like that.Do not let them mislead that you continued keeping them in concentration camps when the Germans left.

History / "Poland's Concentration Camp" ?? [570]

Celinski open your mind. You have to provide a legitimate answer. The Germans leave Poland chased by red army and the Jews in concentration camps(the ones who remained) are freed(except the ones who were moved to german concentration camps). What did you do with them?

Tell for example. We gave them the opportunity to join the new dynamic state of Israel. This is a good answer.

History / "Poland's Concentration Camp" ?? [570]

The Germans left the concentration camp in January 1945 but it was still in operation in April of 1947. And if we include the subcamps, Germans ran the site for four years and eight months, while Poles ran the site for eleven years.

Did the Poles continue the german methods of using gases to kill Jews or did they add new methods to the repertoire?

don't want to say you're a liar or something, but being a Greek (you are, right ?), can you be objective when talking about Turkey ?...history facts :)

You,as French can be objective when talking about Turkey?...history facts.French have been the biggest Turkophiles I know.Even from the 16th century there was mutual agreement between Sulejman and Ludwig.French fought as allies of Ottoman Empire in Crimea in 1854.In 1920 French helped Kemal providing ammunition to fight the Greek army even though officially they were allies with Greeks(in Entente). They gave all territories they had gained by Sevres treaty to Turkey.(French PM said:We were forced to sign the treaty,we were sad after it).And still today they support the entrance of Turkey into EU.

For me this turkophilia is unexplained and not justified at all. What common does France have with Turkey?Maybe you view them as exotic I do not know.

You should ask all neighbouring balkan nations what Turkey and Turks are like.Ask Serbs,Greeks,Bulgarians,Croatians. You will get very interesting answers. Also ask the ones who had limited turkish occupation like Hungarians and Ukrainians. What they really think.

If all this does not agree with the german experience illustrated by Bratwurst Boy,then you are free to be turkophile.

It's a problem of culture

You have to realize that the Turks feel superior to anyone. They feel deep contempt for the Westerners.

And it's not the teachers

I do not think the german teachers put some extra efforts to help the underachieving turkish children.Anyway.However children from other minorities do very well in the german educational system.

There is a reason Mozart avoided writing operas in German (he wrote on in Turkish

Why do you always try to distort facts? You try to show arabic inventions as being turkish and always give a false story and a false explanation.Guys, you should know.Turks have an average IQ of 91.Is it possible to con Europeans who have an IQ of 105?Very difficult.

Well, let's see.Yes,Mozart had problem with german language and all composers had till Wagner because all the operas were written in italian at that time which was considered more delicate, had a long tradition in opera and was thought to be the only language suitable for this kind of music.

To distort this and tell that Mozart prefered the turkish language for aesthetic reasons is grotesque. After all do you know any opera work written to be sang in turkish?

Mozart simply saw some ottoman musicians playing a rhythm in the palace of Habsburg, liked the rhythm and wrote one composition, the turkish march. That's all.He did not play baglama or write cifteteli.

What do you think the Goethe-instituts world wide are for? :)

I know what I write. You tend to undervalue syntax and teach grammar most of the time which leads foreigners to plenty of mistakes. Can you imagine a Turk trying to learn german while his language does not provide him any notion of some complex syntax?

German language is extremely structured. They got their syntax from ancient Greeks. It is the same syntax.Anyway in german there is only one word for one meaning like in ancient greek while in english one word can have several meanings.

So german is much more difficult because you have to learn each specific word for each individual meaning(most complex words and derivatives) and the Germans do not help you with that very eagerly.

The Germans also do not teach their syntax because they take it for granted while even ancient Greeks understood the importance of teaching syntax.

Coffee

Yes,the Turks invented it in Brazil.

Flight

As it is widely known Muhammad the Conqueror had feathers so he could fly.

numbers

That is why they are called Arabic numbers. Before the Turks came nobody could measure anything because they did not know the numbers.Even classical Greeks had no idea what the numbers were and wrote simply one, two, three, forty, forty five etc.

the mechanical clock,

After they invented it,they gave the secret to Swiss to produce better one.The Sultan did not care since he had always a watch on his hand.

Leukemia

Turks invented leukemia?This is likely.

Also submarine technology originated in Turkey

Yes,the Turks invented submarines to eat their Doners quietly under the water. They used it also to peep the women swimming over the sea without being noticed.

Also Turks heavily influenced Europe

Moustache everywhere.

and Germany's classical music including Mozart and Beethoven.

Yes,Mozart wore a head scarf and Beethoven ate a Doner everyday to get inspiration. Both also used to dance belly dances.

Charlomagne's empire was not commonwealth. It was an empire made by the sword.Or do you regard Napoleon's Empire as a commonwealth too?

Everybody knows that after death of Charlemagne his empire got dissolved and the holy roman empire of german nation became gradually a shadow government. The real power was within the small states. One emperor actually was czech,Karl, who built Prague university and is still regarded the most important czech king in czech Republic. However the Czechs got integrated into Austrian Empire, there was not even commonwealth between german states and Austria only some alliances with some german states being part of Austrian Empire if I remember well.

Germans lived most of their history in one commonwealth (Staatenbund)

Yes,in commonwealth with other Germans. The Poles lived together with Lithuanians,Belorussians etc.Or do you think Prussia was a commonwealth of German and polish inhabitants?

As for Jews Poland was one of the few states which never threw its Jews out of the country.Remember Czechs drove them three times out of Prague,Spanish threw them out completely,United Kingdom expelled all of them in 13th century and allowed some of them back only 400 years later.

For me the fact that Poland had over 3 million Jews before WW2 is enough to prove lack of racism. No other nation would ever accept such a large number of Jews.

They also had commonwealth.Have you ever heard of a french-german commonwealth,or an english-french commonwealth,or even a dutch-german commonwealth or french-belgian?Only skandinavian countries had some similar form of unity(where all parts were not always satisfied or not forced to accept union).

News / Illegal drugs in the EU - Polish gangs are top sellers [56]

I doubt It. Maybe top producers.

Agree. There are many small chemical labs which produce it in Poland.
The dealing of drugs in the West is done by organized crime and I have never heard of polish mafia.

Language / I want to learn Polish. Where to start? [180]

For example good morning in polish is dzien dobry,in czech dobry den,in russian dobre utra.Utro is morning,Poles and Czechs do not say good morning but good day, while Russians say actually good morning.Anyway it sounds the same.

Or where are you from in polish is szkad jestesz?,in russian otkuda ty?,in czech odkud jsi?You see the similarity?People who speak one slavic language have no problem learning more of them, they know already many words.

Language / I want to learn Polish. Where to start? [180]

Polish is easier than czech. Many words are the same.Russian is also more difficult due to cyrillic alphabet.
There are two ways to memorize. One is to memorize words. The other is to memorize sentences.I have found that both ways work, memorizing sentences is better for oral communication, memorizing words is better for understanding written speech.

So if you manage to memorize 2000-3000 polish words you can handle a casual conversation.
