Life / Polish culture versus rotten West [279]

Ireland, long known for its Catholicity, has produced such a bad track record regarding Church abuse of women and children. Yes, that happens everywhere, but the intensity seems greater in Ireland.

I don't know that the intensity, as you call it, is/was greater in Ireland, but in recent years people have been much more willing to question what was the great social power of the Church, and that has led to more people coming forward with allegations of historical abuse.

There are parallels between Ireland and Poland in that the Church was seen in both countries as a refuge from foreign cultural and political hegemony. Having said that, in Ireland the case is much more complicated, as British rule was not universally seen as malign.

The RC Church in Ireland did, and has done, many good and bad things, and this forum is perhaps not the place to discuss them in depth, but I would like to recommend a documentary on the notorious Magdalene Laundries.

I now feel nausea every time I read 'Serbia", "Serb" and I have stopped reading his messages

I have successfully trained myself to do just that, and I must say that my PF experience has improved. I'm now trying to ignore two other members, but it's proving to be more difficult.

You have no comprehension of life in Poland

From reading your hilariously stupid posts, that could have been written about you. You are an Australian, right?

Food / A recipe for hootch? Bimber taste in Poland. [42]

[moved from]

only one place that legally distills that stuff.

If it's Moonshine, it's illegal by definition. Here's a decomissioned still (Leśna bimbrownia) I saw in a museum in Podlasie.

  • Polish forest still in a museum.

Life / Going to Poland in a hijab - Polish people and Islam [154]

In your bible

It's not my bible. I am an apostate.
Deuteronomy is the fifth book of the Torah. Christians refer to the New Testament (apart from a few fundamentalists who use it to back up their prejudices).

Does any state in the world use the Torah as its law code?

other Muslim countries it is not punished.

Pakistan? Afghanistan? I asked about what was in the Holy writings. Surely, if the Koran says the punishment for apostasy is death, that it non-negotiable. Or is it that, as with, e.g. Christianity, it depends on interpretation? I thought scripture was clear. Again, I hope I'm wrong.

Muslim Countries don't force.

If someone born into a Muslim family grows up and decides that they do not believe in Islam, or they want to follow another religion, is there any force to make them stay in?

she believes and i do too it is part of the Muslim religion

Thanks to aggressive islamists it has come to be seen as part of the religion, but this can be proven otherwise. What is your response to the article linked above? I spent several years living in Turkey, and had many friends and colleagues whose devout wives were uncovered. They were sometimes abused on the streets by what are called kara fatmas.

Law / Buying a car from Poland - any site where you can check history of a car? [15]

Theres a saying in the industry that if a car has been imported to Poland from abroad it must have been badly damaged or clocked as otherwise it wont pay for anyone to bring it and sell it on.

That was undoubtedly true before EU accession, but lots of people, including someone I know, make their living importing cars from Germany, Holland, etc. They aren't all damaged. In fact, some of them are top drawer motors.

I have sprayed mine twice in the last 3 years

I've been thinking of doing that. Expensive?

women wearing the hijab

A very good article, and one which should be read by every muslim woman (if they can read). The authors state that "well-funded" conservative muslims have tried, very successfully in fact, to make the hijab seem normal. Well-funded from where? I think we all know. The same country that funds madrassas in Pakistan, from where brainwashed boys join jihad. A country whose unelected leaders are feted in Washington and London. A country which cuts people's hands off and executes minorities.
