Work / English teacher from Turkey, have any chance to work in Poland? [71]

ok, I understand. I will not try

Don't give up so easily. A little optimism goes a long way. If you go and live in Poland you don't know what will happen. In the mean time why don't post on this forum? It'll give you a chance to practice your English and get some info on Poland.

News / Poles DO return to the UK [39]

They can't. When the Poles voted yes to joining the EU, accepting the Euro was a non-negotiable part of the package.

Get out of the EU than. But could Poland govern itself without supervision by the EU?

Life / Bugs in Polish houses and apartments [78]

You guys. Leave those spiders alone! They're your friends. They're predators who will keep your place clean of vermin if you let'em be. I have plenty of spiders in my place. I usually find'em in the bathtub getting a sip of water. When I do I just get a tissue, pick 'em up and drop 'em off behing the wall. They survive and keep the place clean of silverfish, bedbugs, all kinds of nasty insects. Works like a charm. BTW a few cobwebs don't bother me.

Poland acquires the Euro itself, which might be somewhere between 2013-2015

Bad move losing monetary control of your economy. Poland should keep the zloty.

USA, Canada / Do any other Polish Americans feel that our culture needs to be more well preserved? [38]

However, yes I'd like to see Polish culture preserved in the US. It takes guts to be this way. I find it very honorable.

It's difficult if not impossible to maintain your culture when living in a foreign country. You change, your host country changes and your native country changes. It's no different if you are an American in Poland, the longer you stay the more you lose touch with your country. Nothing stays the same.

However, I'm against creating little "countries" inside the US like it is for example in Chicago where a part of it is practically Polish.

In time they'll assimilate. If not them certainly their children.

Life / Bugs in Polish houses and apartments [78]

We reckon there could be one more type of bug but its not confirmed yet, as his girlfriend woke up with 5 red dots ( bites ) under her arm. It could have been a spider or something else but i think its some bigger white color centipede which is bigger than the ones in the bathroom .. i read that some bigger centipedes can bite.

Genealogy / Polish nationality? Which of the following (if any) determine being Polish. [231]

Move to Poland. Learn the language. Eat the food. Contribute to Polish Society. Poland needs people like you. They're asking for people to return, someone mentioned that Poland is offering people money to open businesses in Poland. Reading the posts on this forum convinces me that you can make a go of it economically in Poland.

Love / Polish Girl Doesn't Want To Touch. [240]

I think it's obvious that she needs three hots and a cot and he's looking for a piece of bum. She needs a women's shelter. But being Polish in America, too independent, too stubborn, too ignorant, whatever to look for any help. School of hard knocks.

Genealogy / Mixed-Blood Poles in America (Do we count?) [118]

What does "Democracy in America" by Tocqueville have anything to do with the topic at hand???

He's was a very perceptive Frenchman who described YOUR culture.

Love / Unmarried couples in Poland = pathology [310]

I know that many women forgo their careers during marriage, but if they do it willingly, then they should consider that they are taking a gamble.

F-Stop what the law says, "it isn't a gamble". Both parties have contractual obligations.

On the other hand, it's a relatively new phenomena that people are marrying out of love for one another.Marriage is an archaic carryover from a time when such contracts were needed for society at the time.

Marriage is not archaic. Everyone is not a type "A" personality well salaried professional.

government and law is about preventing the strong from taking advantage of the weak. Without the law society would revert to the Middle Ages where might meant right. And we'd have a bunch of fiefdoms with private armies running around and ruling with the sword.

USA, Canada / Moved back from Canada to Poland:). Here are the reasons why. [868]

"You Can't Go Home Again" by Thomas Wolfe

The title comes from the finale of the novel when protagonist George Webber realizes, "You can't go back home to your family, back home to your childhood ... back home to a young man's dreams of glory and of fame ... back home to places in the country, back home to the old forms and systems of things which once seemed everlasting but which are changing all the time - back home to the escapes of Time and Memory."

Love / Unmarried couples in Poland = pathology [310]

Where you in the States when Lee Marvin the actor was sued by his live-in for alimony when he dumped her? The courts ruled that his live-in was a legitimate marriage and he owed the money. He owed her financial support.

Marriage prevents men from impregnating women and than leaving them destitute.

If your moving to China learn the language, know something of the culture, enjoy the food, find yourself a Chinese wife. I'd recommend the same if moving to Poland. The "genes"? Hitler devastated Poland over "the genes". Please yourself and read "Democracy in America" by Tocqueville.

Love / Unmarried couples in Poland = pathology [310]

If more such people felt stigmatised, they might think twice before breaking up a family for their own selfish motives. But the going thing is to make all human failings and misbehaviour 'acceptable', constantly lowering the standards of human interaction.

In search of the perfect state...roots of Nazism.

It was no different from years past. All one needs to do is read a Dickens Novel. Men would take off in a sailing ship and never return. Women would die in child birth. Wars would devastate entire villages and communities. Yeah, there are and have been nuclear families but there always have been plenty of blended families throughout history. Nothing new.

Yes, marriage is a legal contract and your legal obligations develop whether you're married in Church or Court or live together. Sometimes love has nothing to do with it. It's to keep the rich from taking advantage of the poor or the strong from taking advantage of the weak.

Love / Polish Girl Doesn't Want To Touch. [240]

I've turned down more. There are a lot of intelligent, very gorgeous American artist women who are monogamous and who'd have sex like in the first week of dating.

Love shouldn't be this difficult. Sometimes a guy has to learn to walk away from those who don't love and learn to love those who do love.

USA, Canada / Moved back from Canada to Poland:). Here are the reasons why. [868]

Not everything that works outside of Poland, will have the same market penetration here unless you have very deep pockets. IMO, today Poles are looking for something that is cheaper and better or makes life easier. The new has very much been done, as most products and services are already on the market in some capacity.

There's always a market for something well done no matter were you're at. Just a little creative thinking and patience.

IMO, if you adopt the cultural and social habits that are deeply rooted in the nation, it is easier to assimilate and find your position within polish society.

Very true, but got to speak the lingo.

Life / Cold winter in Poland this year - Gas Shortages as of Late October [32]

Reason for the post: Why is Poland purchasing nat gas from the heavy handed Ruse-ski's after what they did to the Ukraine in what was it, 2008? Cutting off their gas supply. Looks like it's going to be a cold winter.

Better to start using what Poland has, coal and agriculture. Coal gasification plants and build anaerobic digesters from agricultural waste which would generate methane for your gas lines.

Polish Companies Likely to Face Gas Shortages as of Late October

The Yamal contract between PGNiG and its Russian peer Gazprom expires on October 20 and the new one, already agreed upon by Poland and Russia, now faces objections from the EU.

The weekend talks between Poland, Russia and the EU have not brought any breakthrough and will be continued this week.

Poland could be neighborhood 1.5 billion cubic meters short on natural gas imports in Q4 to meet demand while keeping the system safely fed, officials told a news conference.

Travel / Cheapest and quickest route from Wales to Poland by car? [11]

Speaking of driving to Poland. Can one rent a car in England and drive around Poland? For instance when visiting England I often rent a car and drive about the British island. Can one do the same and take the car to Poland? Or do I have to rent a car in Poland?
