History / Did British public protest against the sell out of Poland to the Soviets? [286]

Why can't you learn that a lie constantly repeated does not become the truth: instead it simply is repeatedly exposed as a lie so that more and more people know that it is a lie.

For once I would really like to see you taking your own advice which would be nice and refreshing Harry.

Could you please be so kind as to quote the parts of the relevant agreements which show that, given that the British and Americans had secured a promise from Stalin that there would be a Polish state and that there would be free and fair elections in Poland open to all parties other than the fascists, Poland’s independence was threatened. Either that or stop telling your latest pathetic lie.

What makes your statement pathetic is the suspicious lack of Polish representatives at those negotiations for a self-governing state be it Teheran, Yalta or Potsdam. Ironically your self-appointment to represent Polish interests in those negotiations puts you in the position of sole custodians thus making you solely responsible for what had happened afterwards and that’s no lie.

Which allied leader first proposed moving Poland’s borders to their current western location? Oh yes, it was General Władysław Sikorski.

Yet curelessly enough thanks the so called allies of ours (read his untimely death and the controversy surrounding the circumstances of) as well as no other Polish representative present there that determined the future borders of his state. Contrary to your claims it was your own self- interest at heart that was the guiding principle behind those closed door negotiations. Please don’t do us any favors’ in the future. When you stop meddling in the affairs of others you won’t have to come up with some pathetic excuse like “we negotiated in good faith, it was Stalin that did not keep his end of the bargain!”, “who would have thought?”, “what else could we have done?”, “we were exhausted!” etc.

Actually it is far simpler, it is as simple as can be; after all

Simple as can be, three powers diving up the spoils of war.

what can be simpler than something which does not exist?

Hear, here!! Speak the truth, simply state you were looking forward to salvage what was left of the British Empire, your position in the world and prestige rather than pretending to negotiate in good faith on our behalf, no one will hold it against you. Simple enough Harry, isn’t it?

History / Polish bombers over Berlin in 1939? [19]

if they feared an oncoming war they should have got as many WWI surplus planes as possible.

Surely you jest. As polmed pointed out in her piece Poland had a far better resources to rely on then the flying coffins you speak of that were domestically designed and produced. Here's something for you to ponder on and a good parallel to what you have proposed, can you imagine what would have happened if Americans solely flew P-51 Mustang's against the Soviet made MIG-15's in Korean war? Besides that's not the real number of overall Polish air assets at the time either, merely a number used against the Germans in September campaign. There's a lot more factors at play to fully operate all the assets you have. Can you imagine the number of personnel needed for each plane to keep it operational?

A lot of Polish military personnel as well as equipment was moved to the Romanian corridor including planes reflective of the overall strategy of Polish high commend and perhaps their foolish faith in their allies and the confidence that the agreements actually made and signed would be honoured. Perhaps those worthless agreements in itself were just a casualty of another worthless piece of paper or propaganda if you prefer hailed as peace in our time by Chamberlain had something to do with that. When Poland finally fell Romania received 40 PZL.11's, 14 PZL.7's, 31 PZL.23's, 27 PZL.37's and 29 various other types of planes claimed by Germans as spoils of war given to Romania alone not to mention 130 planes that were taken over by the Soviet Russia and all very much still usable and useful for them to take, not some junk-yard surplus you speak of either.

During the September campaign Germans lost 247 planes over Poland and about equal number were damaged, so overall a loss of 333 planes on the Polish side vs. 247 on the German side is no small victory for the Poles considering what's hailed as technological superiority of the German Luftwaffe. Keep in mind that 44 of the planes lost by the Germans were 109's and 110's never to be used on the western front and a technological marvel in any western mind vs.25 Polish planes that could actually face them as equals in combat. Mind you Germans had 2700 planes over Poland during the September campaign so those numbers speak for themselves as to their so called great victory over Poland, with the help of Soviets. Victory? Perhaps, but with very heavy losses in my mind and short lived victory at that. Nothing to brag about, in my book one has to enjoy the fruits of victory in order to claim it and unlike the Soviets, Germans simply did not.

History / Polish bombers over Berlin in 1939? [19]

I have read a few times about Polish bombers operating over Berlin beginning of Septemer 1939 (PZL.39 £oś). Does someone knows more about this?

I suspect it's just a myth and wishful thinking made up by journalists at that time to raise the morale of the people much like the myth of Polish cavalry attacking German tanks that was made up by Italian journalist and very much still held as absolute truth by many. Yes there were few reports at the time most notable example is an article that appeared in Kurier Poranny dated 5th of September 1939 but the truth of the matter is that Polish military decided to use their air assets on the front lines where it was needed the most not some revenge bombing of Berlin as some journalists wished it to be so and rightly so.

Polish air-force had 392 planes at their disposal at that time and on the eve of war they received 38 more giving it a grand total of 430 used in September campaign. The truth once again is much different than a popular view held by many today that Polish air-force was destroyed on the ground on the eve of war propagated by the German propaganda machine. Some were but one look at statistics alone and a much different picture emerges. As it turns out that out of 430 Polish planes 333 were lost in combat not on the ground as claimed by the Germans, most of them over Radomsko, Ciechanów, Pułtusk, Kuciny and Piotrków where they were used in ground support role, casualties of anti aircraft fire. Polish planes at the time were simply no match for German Messerschmitt 109 and110 so not many dogfights either, only 1/3 rd of all planes lost were the result of dogfights with German pilots as they were at a disadvantage but unavoidable in a fast moving chaos of much different war. Realistically speaking Polish military only had 25 planes at their disposal at that time that could face Messerschmitt on equal terms, a number way too small to make a real difference or a dent. At the end of September campaign the ones that were still flying were designated to recognisances missions.

Sadly myths persists and are much more appealing to many than the truth just because something appeared in print and the true heroes of the defence of Poland who paid the ultimate price forgotten as a result. Most people know more about Polish participation in the battle of Britain than the air battles fought during September campaign over Poland, a shame really especially if you're Polish.

UK, Ireland / Why do so many Polish guys in the UK have a crew cut or buzz cut? [106]

Same with their ugly swim suits, they are so disgustingly tight you see all the nuts in there.

Another San Francisco native. Why the hell do you even look at man in the first place? No matter how tight your bathing suit, you still won't measure up, that's fore sure. Piece of friendly advice, let go of your fantasies and get yourself a red-neck woman. Perhaps you did? Was she disappointed? That explains your perversion. What's the matter? not enough of a man for her?

History / How do Poles feel about 10th anniversary of 9/11 [40]

Try to imagine jumping from the 110th floor. Yikes!

Try to imagine being on the receiving end of the shock and awe campaign as a civilian or at a wedding where the only celebratory gun fire you hear is that made by the bombs because someone is too trigger happy seeing a larger gathering of people suspecting the worst and that’s the last sound you’ll ever hear. On the eneversry of this despicable act all the innocent life that was lost should be remembered. I have a real hard time expressing my sympathy to someone that does not have a shred of humanity left in him.

When one equates the lose of innocent human life in the name of politics or revenge to that of an innominate object calling it as Collateral Damage does not have a higher moral ground in my opinion. When the question was posed by some pesky reporter about the number of innocent civilian casualties suffered by the other side at some press conference every single time the reply was an automatic “we do not keep the score on collateral damage” by the authority, degrading it in the process to that worth less than a livestock.

Instead of asking this stupid question what are Poles feelings about this tragedy perhaps the Yank here should stop and reflect on the consequences of it and ask himself “WHAT’S THE SCORE NOW” “DO I FEEL REVANGED”. Did you ever stopped to think about other who you dragged in to this just to have some legitimacy so others won’t think it’s all about revenge and oil? Did you even mention the loss of coalition soldiers who died in this campaign? Are you so shallow and conceited to think only of yourself? To you only the life of a Yank is worth something and it’s all about you but you don’t stop and think about the impact it had on others that you dragged into this revenge trip of yours. Oh cry me a river, like I give a **** about you. Just like you the only thing I care about is the loss of our boys, for what exactly?

History / Has Poland ever participated in any big wars (except WW2)? [73]

It was broad so I suggested narrowing it down.

Than why go back all the way to 68? It’s obvious 38 is way too complicated for you so let’s concentrate on more recent events. Why not Balkans’ and Polish involvement there? Iraq rings a bell? Perhaps Afghanistan? Tell me what’s the difference between doing Warsaw Pacts’ bidding and NATOs’. Yes you are a TROLL, in a decade or two you’ll make it sound as Poland was the one that stirred **** up in those places and NATO had nothing to do with that. That’s not a problem, that’s a sign of a great cook as long as you can recreate that same taste time and time again. Anyway respect, I think there’s enough info here for me to recreate it, I hope :) Thx.

What makes ethnic food ethnic is the combination of spices you use to get that distinct flavor that suits the palate; her fusion is more up your alley, something along the Tex-Mex flavor you’re craving, which makes it interesting IMO.

Is that fussion?

Sounds like a successful culinary experiment, good for you, not afraid to bring in a new flavor. My gf makes a nice peppery tomato sauce to go with, which I find to be a good combination and bring it up a notch. Is it a sauce you’re talking about? To pour it over, something like Salsa Verde or did you mixed it in the stuffing itself?

Holy ****! Go to Google maps and Google Polish restaurant Chicago area, see all those red dots on the map, now do the same for NY, Miami, Denver, etc. Not much in LA but quite a few in San Diego, Someone is lying, OP must live in a one horse town, the last train that stopped there must have been at a turn of the last century to pick up some manure, he sure knows how to spread it, I’ll trust Google, thank you very much as the Yanks are nothing more than bunch of Liars.

So FUZZ, where the hell do you live? I took you at your word but that’s just not the case is it? Unless Google’s lying.

German/British/Swiss/Czech places...

And why is that? Certain food takes time and not very well suited for takeout where you can call in your order, drive there, pick it up, drive back and eat it all in a half an hour time frame you have for lunch.

USA, Canada / Why are Polish restaurants not successful in the USA? [698]

why is it not to their taste?

Now that’s something you’ll have to answer on your own, I’m Polish, I don’t have your taste buds, but I’m pretty sure the answer lies in what you eat, the portion size, the time it will take to prepare as your impatient ass waits for it as well as the price, oh and most important thing, dose the joint have a drive through. LOL

what is it about the food that turns them away?

Are you sure it’s the food? Like I’ve said; time, price, etc.

what makes this interesting, IMO, is that for example, PolAms outnumber Chinese Americans considerably in the USA, yet Chinese restaurants are incredibly successful and in basically every town imaginable.

Yes and where are those Poles? Seen any in Nebraska lately? Don’t be stupid Poles are concentrated in certain areas, not dispersed as others seem to be but where they live you’ll find plenty of Polish restaurants.

USA, Canada / Why are Polish restaurants not successful in the USA? [698]

so why would american palates not coincide with polish palates?

There’s no accounting for one’s taste. :))

Polish food is fatty, greasy, often times fried, lots of meat and starch, desserts, coffee/tea......does that sound entirely UN-american?

Logically speaking, it should be right up your alley then.

one would have to wonder why an American doesn't eat such food, no?

Is it just me or you simply do not see the contradiction in this statement vs. the one right above this one.

unless you'd like to prove otherwise.

Au contraire, unlike people like yourself I have nothing to prove, simply nudging you in the right direction to keep to the topic at hand as you often seem to veer off course trying your best to prove God knows what. Putting you on the right track so to speak to find the answer to the original question posted here. Somehow I get the feeling that’s not exactly what you want. If you deliberately want this debate to take a different course may I suggest you start your own thread something along the lines Polish grease vs. American grease and I’ll post there too and on topic, that’s a promise.

tell me what Poles DO eat on a regular basis. maybe then we'd have something here.

Irrelevant, as it’s all about your average American palate, what YOU eat. After all; that’s what will ultimately make or break any ethnic food establishment in US not just Polish. You’ll either frequent this particular joint or not, as the food being served there is to your taste or not. Simple, isn’t it?

Now we’re back to the OP’s question

USA, Canada / Why are Polish restaurants not successful in the USA? [698]

The question should be, why are Polish restaurants not successful in the world. If it's such a great food then why almost no one else likes it other than the Poles?

Polish food had been consumed in Poland since time immemorial, still is making it a great success, thus making your statement false. What’s your contribution? Corn? (Maze) sorry that’s Native American Indian contribution to the culinary arts. Perhaps some spirits? Hell NO, Scottish immigrants manage to establish that as the newly established government imposed a tax on the spirits to pay for the debt accumulated during the Revolutionary war, fought precisely for that reason in the first place, TAX. Not willing to pay that tax they simply moved out of Pennsylvania to Kentucky where they could at least for the next few years enjoy the freedom of the oppressive regime, thus Kentucky Moonshine was born. You have nothing to your name, everything made its way to America through immigrants. LOL, yet you want to discuss finer culinary arts? What makes you the expert on the subject I ask?

OK. Right after you answer my question....what the average Pole eats.

The key phrase in the original question is USA not Poland. Devil is in the details. It’s all about Yanks palate and your preference. What Poles eat is irrelevant.

my personal diet is completely irrelevant to this thread

Sure it is FUZZ. Why are Polish restaurants not successful in the USA? Ask yourself what is that your average Yank eats and the answer to OP's question will become crystal clear, after all it’s all about Yankee palate and why Polish food is not very appealing to your average Yank, or are you simply too stupid to realize what the question is really about? Not enough grease perhaps?

There's many paths to enlightenment grasshopper.

yes yes, every single person in america eats fast food....breakfast, lunch and dinner!

Yes and Yes, why else would you have restaurants serving breakfast all day buffet style? Answer: so you can stuff your face 24/7.

we're all fat

Not all americans, just 99 out of a 100.

unhealthy greedy people living in a lousy country!

Sounds about right.

whatever you say. great. of course. yes, of course. sure, sure.

I’m glad you agree with me, remember admitting you have a problem is just the first step of many to full recovery.

my question is directly related to this thread. the OP is asking why Polish restaurants are not successful in the USA so don't you think idenfying what the food actually is would be a good start?

My answer is directly related to this thread. Ask yourself what is that staple diet of yours and what kind of food attracts you that makes you fat in the process and you no longer need to dwell on Polish cusine as the shroud of confusion will slowly be lifted.

sounds logical to me and illogical for the poles on here to refuse to answer a simple question, a question right on topic.

I’m sure it does, I never accused you of total ignorance, all I’ve said is that you’re simpleminded. You are obsessed with this subject matter and I’ll bet you had many sleepless nights over it so let me help you out with this since 584 posts later still led you nowhere. Ask yourself just a few simple questions grasshopper: What makes you tic? What food you prefer? What are your eating habits?, this will bring you one step closer to the answers you seek, after all who knows you better then yourself? And the question is Why are Polish restaurants not successful in the USA?” This will eliminate the inherent bias in your approach as you no longer rely on hearsay from even more pathetic losers than yourself. My guess, you avoid this approach because it might revele something uncomfortable about yourself, something that you try so desperately to shut out of reality at all cost. This is beyond the grasp of your reasoning, logic simply eludes you but if you follow my approach you’ll be able to solve life’s greatest mysteries.

I suggest you start your research right away, there’s no time to waste. Get your ass out of bed an hour or two before work; count how many cars stop by your neighborhood Dunkin' Donuts, McDonald’s etc. I’m afraid that Poles and their food shall remain your greatest enigma, a nut you’ll never be able to crack.

still waiting.

So you wish to know the secret of staying lean and fit? LOL. Keep waiting than. Despite your claim of how fat the Polish food is, it’s in US that one spots a fat ass wherever one cares to look. I guess it’s all due to the success of that healthy international fast food you consume; proof is in the putting so to speak. After all, don’t you have the saying? You are what you eat. We already know what the staple American food is; don’t bother making your pathetic list.

UK, Ireland / I need help!! (problems with my Polish coworkers) [41]

Woman! I swear, so you started out on a wrong foot, big deal. If it was guys problem would’ve been solved by now either in a pub over beer or on some dark street. I know! How about catfight I’ll watch :)) seriously; you have to resolve this matter, it’s not healthy to come back home all stressed out from a job. I suspect there’s more to this story though, someone’s been naughty, otherwise it would not escalate to this.

Just prop up your phone and start videotaping

Seriously? That’s the best advice you can come up with? Put some more tension into situation by telling them to snitch? I suspect this had a very trivial beginning in the first place. Someone feels they’ve been wronged somehow, somewhere. Trust me, I know. We constantly get that from woman blissfully oblivious to what just happen till we get those not so subtle clues. Knowing woman they will hold that grudge forever till someone apologizes for whatever trivial thing they may have done and most importantly, for what the other side thinks they have done.

That's exactly what this thread is about. People don't eat it, for the reasons listed above.

What are those reasons exactly? A primitive logic that can only exist in the mind of your usual Polish bashers, very narrow minded point of view IMO but effective as it fits very well with your average western way of thinking for obvious reason. Feel free to spread your BS though if it makes you happy but don't expect me to have a good opinion of people like yourself as an educated, suffisticated English gentleman, you're simply not.

History / Circus in Warsaw 1930's; information for an elderly relative whose family were in that circus [8]

I imagine there must have been many, here's a sample of one such circus; Staniewski Brothers Circus Warsaw, December 1935.

This is a free copy of a short program for December 1935, few acts that are mentioned there are; American female pilot Edy Ruth, Spanish horse riders Los Aseveras, motorcycle rider Cliff Aeros, English juggler by the stage name of Ray etc. I’m sure that if you combed through their archives from various years of interwar period you’ll probably find what you’re looking for, start there and best of luck.
