Classifieds / English cuisine week in Lidl shops in Poland [203]

I've heard there was Cheddar in the local M1 shopping centre so I postponed my visit in Tesco.. I was in the M1 yesterday, bought that "supposed" Cheddar (made by some unknown Polish company) and I'm really disappointed, it tastes like any other gouda chesse.. it's really soft - not "hard and crumbling" like the previous one I tried... I'm gonna visit Gliwices tesco probably this week..

UK, Ireland / Do Polish People Litter their own country (just like they do in the UK)? [84]

What I really hate about the litter in Poland is not the stuff you can see on the streets, I hate when I'm going to the park or nearby forest to unwind, have a little hike or a biking trip and everywhere there are those bloody wild dump... I'd shoot them on sight...

Try the dimsum, frd.

Will try them. I've skimmed through their site and to be honest it's gonna be hard to choose something specific so thanks for any suggestions :)

Life / Sci-fi / Fantasy books in Polish? [12]

Lem is a well known hard science author - if he wants something lighter and maybe more heroic I'd suggest reading Jarosław Grzędowicz although his works might be a bit more adult aimed.. ( there's sex and violance in his books ). Marek Dukaj is a great hard science-fiction author especially "Księga pieśni"... as for something easier to read I'd suggest Maja Lidia-Kossakowska for instance "Siewca Wiatru"...

still those books are pretty violent.. except probably for Lem on the other hand Lems books tend to be more complicated and have hidden references mainly to communism.

I can't recall of any author that writes things similar to Harry Potter - that is youth literature. Most science fiction and fantasy authors write for adults, there's violance and sex in their books gonna be hard to find something similar to HP. On the other hand I did read Wiedźmin by Sapkowski when I was around 16, the book was really gory and had a lot of sexual stuff in it...

There are plenty bins in the city.

Actually I could see that change happening - a few years ago you would need to stroll for 15-20 minutes through the city centre to find a litter bin. I'm talking about Zabrze here - if there was a litter bin it would have been destroyed by hooligans in a week after setting it. Because the city is getting wealthy there's:

a) too much new stuff for the hooligans to destroy efficiently
b) there are surveillance cameras in city centres
c) police and city guards are more efficient

UK, Ireland / Matura - Does it meet the entrance requirement for English University? [9]

I'd ever let anybody onto any higher education course just on the basis of them having passed the matura!

It depends, old math matura what much harder than the current one. It is like that because they have added it as an obligatory subject this year and were afraid of that maaany students would not pass it at all - which wouldn't be a surprise taking into considerations that many students didn't learn much math ,they knew it's not gonna be a matura subject and they are not gonna need it. It is probably gonna get a bit harder every year from now on though.

Travel / Rock/Metal Bars in the Tri City / Gdansk area and Warsaw? [8]

I'd suggest going to Underground Rock Pub in Gdansk, I've been there once and they were playing The Doors all night, there's a lack of such pubs in Silesia ;)

here's the address:
Adres
ul. Podmurna 2
80-835 Gdańsk
it's in the old city section ; o

On this site you'll see a google map with it's location: aktivist.pl/miejsce/localId,4012,underground-rock-pub-miejsce.html

Work / How is the Warsaw job opportunities for international students? [43]

Depending on what is the field of your studying I'd suggest calling one of the students organizations in Warsaw (every Uni usually has got its own office): IAESTE for IT and engineering/technical studies, AIESEC for marketing/banking, there are other organizations too.. Although they specialise in free appenticeships and internships they might give you the information you are looking for... (just google Warsaw IAESTE for instance, and email your questions to the people there).

Life / Question about "Zezowate szczescie" (Bad Luck), a very famous Polish movie [6]

Zezowate szczęście is more like "cross-eyed luck"

Here's a polish site with actors names:
filmweb.pl/film/Zezowate+szcz%C4%99%C5%9Bcie-1960-11996

but I have no idea which one of them was it :) maybe if you could name his role in the movie..

oh yeah you've already posted the list in the imdb link.. I'm not sure I'd vote for
Tadeusz Janczar..

Love / Polish men what is the worst thing a girl can do upon first impression? [360]

I think you misunderstood, we are not obsessed with our money. I know I'm not. Money is nice but it cannot buy you happiness. Cliché but true. I make good money but I doubt I'm any "happier" than the guy next to me who makes a fraction of what I make, in fact I bet you the opposite is true.

I never paid for any girl, maybe because they usually prefered or insisted on paying for themselves. I remember talking about it with my friends and everyone said that often girl that is being paid for feels like she needs to repay somehow. Anyways, I got used to it, so it would be strange for me to suddenly get the "you pay for everything" attutide. Maybe being a poor student not so long might be another issue here..

Love / Polish men what is the worst thing a girl can do upon first impression? [360]

You'll have to excuse my Dutch there, I guess I'm just going to pretend to know what it means..

I've translated Blachary one post above.. I guess it is a bad first impression being a blachara ; o

Yes, long post. I guess women are my favourite subject, sorry!

Now imagine how much shorter your post would have been without:

hmm is it some kind of a hidden binary message?

Yeah, they always complain about guys wasting time on computer games, but ofcourse most of those girls can be found on facebook all damn day!

Exactly, what about watching sex in the city or other shows, hypocrites ;) Beside what better and more romantic is there then a cooperative playthrough of some shooting game with your gf? Exactly.

I would not agree on that - u are not born blachara

oh come on, I was just trying to add a little bit of mystical banter after pgtx..
and if you look at it from the right angle - you can be "reborn" as a human anytime, so why not being reborn as "blachara"

Polish men what is the worst thing a girl can do upon first impression?

Definitely saying something bad about computer games... a big no no for me.

UK, Ireland / Fish and chips - do Polish people in the UK like this? [108]

I come to Zabrze for quality (Makro).

Do you mean there's cheddar cheese in Zabrze's Makro? I live within the walking distance ; o I actually jog around Makro 3 times a week... if not well I'm gonna have to pay a visit to Gliwice's Tesco... who would have though I actually had a little investigation going on some time ago, trying to find some cheddar in Zabrze ; )

Thanks!
